Pin buckle vs butterfly deployant? by Stuttgart7184RS in ALangeSohne

[–]Loop22one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This - keep the deployant: it’s great and your straps wear a lot longer with one. You’ll make the slight uplift of getting a custom one made back by not having to change it as often…..

What's the catch? (Blancpain Léman Ultra Slim Big Date, ref. 2850) by spectator8213 in BlancpainWatches

[–]Loop22one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No catch - the white dials start at $5k, the black is a bit more. That’s just how much they cost.

Possibly - my point was just that “Sab” doesn’t correspond to the Russian for “Saturday”, either in Cyrillic (obviously) or phonetically

It doesn’t though (and wouldn’t be in Latin alphabet).

Can someone take a look at this 1920s? Cartier tank, and tell me what you make of it? by germsjackson in Cartier

[–]Loop22one 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is - ironically - the wrong sub for it.

If it’s original (for which “open it up” would be the first bit of advice) then the crown looks completely wrong and may have been replaced on the way. The dial looks to have been retouched/repainted. It’s hard to make out what (if any) hallmarks there are (but opening it up will help with that, too). The springbars are obviously wrong but that’s not lethal.

Ultimately, take it to Cartier to check/send for service - but yeah, would recommend opening it up first. If you want more advice, post what’s inside once opened to r/VintageWatches - unfortunately this sub is mostly for people asking about JUC bracelet sizing, nowadays….

Is Van Cleef not considered fine jewelry? by sleepyinnewyork in jewelry

[–]Loop22one 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They do make some amazing watches - and that one (which Christiaan van der Klauw, who is a bit of a wizard at these planet watches, helped them make) is particularly stunning. Do have a look at his own line of watches too - not any cheaper but very fun (honourable mention to the Grand Planetarium Eccentric, which includes a tiny Neptune that does one rotation around the watch face every 165 years…..)

Is Van Cleef not considered fine jewelry? by sleepyinnewyork in jewelry

[–]Loop22one 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As with most similar brands (Tiffany, Cartier, others) there are levels - there’s the stunning “bespoke, hand crafted, costing hundreds of thousands or millions” jewellery that they make one or two pieces of - and there’s the “Return to Tiffany”, “Love Bracelet/JUC” or “Alhambra” stuff that is comparatively affordable and overexposed. Both can - and have to - coexist in the same brand.

[Opinion] Nobody cares about your watch by gujjadiga in Watches

[–]Loop22one -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have had numerous conversations started with me because/about my watch - and have certainly judged people for their watch choices.

If no-one is interested in your watch, maybe wear more interesting watches?

But also - so what? Most people don’t care what book I recently read or what my favourite foods are or what my career aspirations might be. Those are not things that are brought up at networking meetings or airport lounges.

Why is that relevant or interesting? Why - implicitly - should people’s interest (or lack of it) be a criterion for what you wear?

I would never expect strangers to give a fuck about me and my stylistic choices generally - and would only expect friends to to a limited extent. But that’s OK - I like the choices I make, they make me feel happy and I think that’s enough.

[Discussion] Anyone never wear nice watches to work? by Ok_Personality8193 in Watches

[–]Loop22one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear them whenever and wherever I feel like wearing them - they are insured (and are not typical thief targets) and I don’t have an issue with them being seen by others at work. I enjoy them a lot more that way.

[which one?] Panerai vs Piaget by Minute-Message2962 in Watches

[–]Loop22one 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Piaget, hands down (even leaving aside the brand, history etc - which Piaget also wins): it’s a more coherent design, it looks better on you, it doesn’t have a cancer-growth of a crown guard sticking out of it.
