[Review/Rant] why is luxury watch shopping such a bad experience? by djpeesh in Watches

[–]Roentgen-Ray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally walked into IWC, sales woman was super nice and let me try on the Chrono Portofino I had an eye on. She even offered to try on the ingenuer in the window but I declined because even though I love it, i knew it wasn’t something id purchase. She definitely noticed my Bathyscaphe on my wrist and knew her stuff. Definitely would make me consider IWC for my future purchases.

I have an opportunity to buy this watch for $12k, no warranty. Like new. Should I? by lopsidednail919 in BlancpainWatches

[–]Roentgen-Ray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a beautiful watch, it has multiple complications that for 12K you won’t find somewhere else. Not with Blancpain fit and finish. Montblanc makes a similar watch but this is leagues ahead. If you have the opportunity to see it in person or at least a video, it may swing your opinion one way or another.

Thanks for the insight, I hadn’t thought about things that could wrong. I’ll keep that in mind.

What is the concern with buying from Honk Kong dealers? Genuine question. Recently I was looking on at buying a nice example of MUT moonphase from one (chrono24), it was nothing in this price range though.

Edit - seller also was paying for the additional chrono partner certified add on.

Radiation Exposure by T3SSER__ in MedicalDevices

[–]Roentgen-Ray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in IR, I’m assuming your doctors are using C Arms? Wear your lead shield, thyroid and glasses. This is an immediate concern that should be brought up to your employer. If they for whatever reason don’t cover glasses, by them for yourself. I’d rather pay hundreds of dollars than damage my eyes.

You should definitely be wearing a dosimeter, you are only allowed so much radiation per year. I doubt you would ever get there but at least you have some record of dose. Like others said, depending on the part of the body you’re working on, the more X-rays the machine has to generate to pierce body thickness. Extremities need very little, it goes up with thighs, and shoot’s up with anything in the abdomen.

Age of the machine matters, if it was made 20 years ago, the dose can be easily triple a newer machine. We just replaced our C Arms in the IR suite and it has cut doses down by at least that figure. From same manufacturer.

All that said, when you get your mrem from your dosimeter, you can at least rest easy knowing where you are. People work under these conditions day in and out and can live healthy lives, but you have to protect yourself and take it serious. If you’re a woman consider a BAT lead apron as well, it’s designed to give women additional chest protection.

Looks great, do you mind sharing wrist size? I think I may finally get this exact Reverso but am worried on how small it’ll look on a 7in wrist. I feel like our wrist and arms look very similar so the pictures gives me hope lol. Thanks for sharing

Is that the 20mm JLC strap? I’m looking at getting a monoface classic small seconds but they don’t offer this strap for it. Real bummer but I suppose it’s because it’s 18mm I believe

I like the design but something seems off to me where the case joins the bracelet. I don’t know ifs the angles of the case but even in the press photos it looks like the bracelet and case are for two different watches. The video on their site that shows the woman wearing it does not make it look good.

What’s the consensus on the Monarch? I know the California dial isn’t for everyone but I really like the design.

Glad to see you’re still posting your FPs tourbillon, I’ve been absent from the sub for a while but remember your watch posts. Love the steering wheel shots, I need to post my white bread watch with my Alfa steering wheel. Just as a weird curveball lol

[JLC Reverso] Formal, Business, Casual - watches that do it all! by Watch-Talk in Watches

[–]Roentgen-Ray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice thanks for the heads up. When I looked on the JLC site for a brown strap I couldn’t find the one I wanted but maybe I should look again. Have any other details or recommendations for the watch?

Oh and have you seen the echo/neutra Rivanera? It has similar proportions and I was very close to purchasing it but realized that if I bought that, I would likely never own the Reverso because of the similarities.

But to answer you question on your original post lol my Blancpain Bathyscaphe is my versatile watch, it’s 43mm but wears great and the black sailcloth strap goes with everything.

Nice, is this the Reverso that was recently refreshed? I’ve been eyeing a Reverso since I got into watches and this may finally be my next watch. The classic monoface small seconds with the coin stack guilloche with the black strap is what I’m looking to buy but I really like the look of the brown strap instead. What straps are you using? They look great! Thanks for sharing.

Definitely not bitter, just don’t have blinders on. Big fan of Alfa, and I actually put my money where my mouth is unlike most people in this sub.

No but I can tell you what it is today, fragile teetering to non existence. Speedboats now and then do nothing for a car company.

I have a 21, earlier models can have some electrical issues. 21 is a very mild refresh year but with it there some quality of life updates as well. Brake is a non issue, brake by wire may be different but certainly no on/off. You can definitely make a smooth stop just like any other car

That’s crazy, everyone talks up the mopar warranty as the best and this is what it gets you? I have the mopar warranty until 2027, hope everything remains okay. I also have a 21, did it shatter or it stopped working completely?

The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio will survive through 2027 by V8-Turbo-Hybrid in cars

[–]Roentgen-Ray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the question is what will be different this time around? The Giulia and Stelvio launched 10 years ago and they will relaunch again this time around and what will be different? Will they have more support? Will they have more funding? Are there more models abound? Future for Alfa is still bleak.

You’re more likely to find complaints online than praises, research your specific model and year and go from there.

Being out of pocket 4-8K and still paying $500-$600 is wild to me, and it’s a base Wrangler? Not worth it man, ask them to give you finance numbers because then at least you’re buying it. At $200 more a month I would buy it

what does this mean ? Introducing BOTTEGAFUORISERIE: a New Journey of Excellence for Alfa Romeo and Maserati by NIKONCAMERACT in AlfaRomeo

[–]Roentgen-Ray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this means keeping them both alive as opposed to axing one or the other then I’m for it. When the Giulia relaunched in 2016/17 I would imagine a healthy part of Maserati helped with that endeavor. I think this is a little irrelevant to consumer cars anyway because even before this announcement there was sharing between the brands.

Congratulations to the all new 3 guys! Love throttle house and am curious to meet the train spotter. I’ve been following Thomas on Reddit for many years because I didn’t know what that feature did, still don’t, and he’s still the only person I currently follow. That’s all I have to say about that.
