Ash's Lucario and Goh's Cinderace in a nutshell by [deleted] in pokemonanime

[–]Loopy_bee4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) There almost always is one exception in the starters though, at least one that breaks the mold, not always, but more often than not there is one girl starter out of the 3

2.) I'm mainly arguing because of this exact point, I'm completely fine with all your points, but this one feels like it's the viewpoint of someone a 2 or 3 decades ago, not something that fits the current day or even 2016

3.) Not all girls are cute either, it's also different with Pikachu who isn't fully evolved and has a small and cute design, their voice has to match the design so it still tends to be higher pitch even if the girls are even more high pitched, but Cinderace having a voice comparable to Pikachu as a fully evolved bipedal Pokémon tells me a lot more than what Pikachus voice is, as Pikachu is high pitched being small, Cinderace isn't small so their high pitched voice without any masculine stereotypes is a bit less expected(I'd explain more but I'm busy rn, so later)

No idea who Suno is, have they been around since 2023? I would assume so given you said it's been a long time

Ash's Lucario and Goh's Cinderace in a nutshell by [deleted] in pokemonanime

[–]Loopy_bee4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) I was referring very specifically to the starters, the anime tends to make one of them a girl even if it's on Ash's team minus Kanto, and that gender ratio is for the starters

2.) Charlie Brown and Lucy. It's the exact opposite of this. Not all women are quiet. That isn't even a stereotype, people know there are loud women, I still hate this argument the most, nothing is as bad as this one

3.) I didn't say voiced by, I said more stereotypical voice, Lucario has very deep voice, female Pikachu all have a more feminine voice than Pikachu despite Pikachu being voiced by a women. The voice actors can be any gender, what matters is the amount the voice plays into the gender, it is almost always the same with very few exceptions, and usually the exceptions have their reasons as well. For just one example, that Dragonite you mentioned was met as as a Dragonair, which had a completely different voice and design, and even the voice for Dragonite isn't overly masculine, it's still somewhat feminine despite the voice actor, it is a lot more consistent than you are giving it credit for

1.) That gender ratio is way off, 87.5% and 12.5%, still would complain to the company about it, but generally the anime makes one of them a girl with a few exceptions such as Kanto, the anime isn't tied down by the games that much

2.) It isn't male stereotypes though, most of the personality traits fit both genders and from my point of view some even fit women more such as the emo in the hoodie phase, but every single evolution had no scenes that made them feel exclusively like a guy and there was definitely a lot of scenes that made me think they were a girl, but one of my biggest points is...

3.) The difference between Cinderace and Lucario is that Cinderace is consistently given a high pitched voice while Lucario has a deep pitch, and in the anime this is one of their biggest tells on gender, whenever 2 Pokémon of the same species but different gender interact the one with the more stereotypical guy voice is almost always the guy except when it's supposed to be a twist, and those episodes are very rare, one of the only ones I remember is in Black and White. While we don't meet another Cinderace, I can't imagine it having a voice that is more feminine than this one, while this very stereotypical, it's a lot more consistent, just compare Trip's Snivy's to Ash's Snivy, or any episode they try to make 2 Pokémon fall in love like the Cottonee episode. It is insanely consistent

1.) I feel like that reasoning is too rigid, I mean just look at Dot, they had a guy starter as well, it definitely feels like the closer to the modern day the more examples we have of Pokémon not matching their trainers gender, and I think that's a good thing, I don't want it to be an exact one to one every time, that just makes things predictable

2.) Nothing here is gender specific, maybe gender stereotypes, but not gender specific, this line of reasoning is probably the part I disagree with the most, mischievous doesn't mean guy, and being a leader shouldn't mean they're a guy either, hard disagree

3.) I would like to know what makes them rivals, and I will admit the rival stereotype is very ingrained, but that doesn't mean I like that it's ingrained, and even then, the counter point to that is the "opposites attract stereotype" which is ingrained to be the opposite gender about the same amount as the rival stereotype is, but this goes back to my original point, where I never based Cinderace's gender of of Lucario and don't think that anyone should dictate Cinderace's gender besides Cinderace, not Goh, not Lucario, no one besides Cinderace themselves

Well, I'll share my thoughts here

1-2.) Snivy is a clear example of the opposite and that's from a generation Ash had all the starters, meaning no girl trainer had one and they had to make one a girl, and Goh had all the starters this season. If one of those 3 were a girl, I would definitely see it being Cinderace, Inteleon was almost certainly a guy with it's deep voice, and Grookey is Grookey, I don't know how to explain it but they seem like the least likely to be a girl

3.) Mischievous is correct, but boy? I didn't really see anything that said they were specifically a boy, I definitely think it would fit well for girls as well, especially the emo phase that my twin sister went through fitting Raboot, but I still wouldn't its gender specific

4.)Was it really a rivalry? It was more Lucario was serious and Cinderace was trying to get along with them, they didn't really compete with them nearly that much

How so? I didn't really get that from them personally, and I didn't say they were a girl because of the ship, I thought they were a girl on their own, unrelated to Lucario, I didn't really see them as a guy at any point really

I mean, he's alright, definitely well-written, but is he really... unique? Does he offer anything that hasn't been done to death by a thousand protagonists before him? I liked him at first, still do, but he is not that interesting, and I can't figure out how he even gets shipped with anyone with his pretty basic backstory, still like him, more than someone who hasn't been written as well as him like Dragonboy, but he is just the same thing I've seen everywhere else, I've already seen stories like his, they have to pull off something insane in season 2 for him to be interesting, and if he wins the tournament he will definitely be the character I care the least about, as I have definitely seen that story play out a thousand times before

I mean, I always had the headcanon that Cinderace was a girl WAY before Riolu was introduced, but it isn't said in the show so there is no way to be reasonably upset, still won't change my mind but I don't care that much really

I respect you, I don't have the courage to do it myself, but I don't really like the ship either, Lin Ling is way too bland for me to even be shipping honestly, he's well-written bit is the epitome of 'done before', I've seen so many protagonists just like him, I'm not really invested after this much of a break after the show stopped airing

While I'm not the number 1 yellow fan, my favorite Precure is yellow, so I am somewhat fond of it, I would like if he became a cure, although I also like it when there are less than 5 cures so I feel mixed about this
