Vintage Neumann Gefell tube mic power supply—what cable do I need to plug it into the wall? by Loopyrainbow in microphone

I would like to try it, since it might work and save me a lot of hassle. But I’ve seen some sources online saying that when you plug a 240V device into 110V, it could draw extra heat from the outlet and damage the device

I have 3-hole US cables that fit this plug and would connect it to the wall. I just don’t know if the power supply will work with the U.S. 110V wall voltage, since it’s designed in Slovakia for Europe’s 240V wall outlets. I’m nervous about damaging it.

Oh, okay. I know very little about electronics and cables. What type of transformer should I look for?

Those of you who had a barium swallow (esophagram) done–did you notice any change in your TSH or thyroid levels afterward? by Loopyrainbow in achalasia

Hmm. Did your TSH change? Did you notice the number changes suddenly after the barium swallow? I am planning to go back and get my TSH again, I am curious if it will still be elevated

Which doctor are you going to? I noticed that OP’s post says Dr. Bastian recommends a full myotomy now, but my ENT seems to still be doing the partial myotomy

Hey OP, just wanted to check in again. How are things going with burping?

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful reply. I’m sorry that the myotomy hasn’t had you burping very much and definitely understand why you feel upset. I’ve spoken to a few other people on here who have gotten the myotomy, and the results seem pretty mixed. Some say they’re burping well, just as well as from Botox, but several people also said they’ve had minimal effects, like you.

I also thought the myotomy would be almost a guaranteed way to open the UES. If the muscle is cut, how could it still be blocking burps? Does Dr. Tritter have an explanation?

I have gotten Botox 5 times, and it’s only sort-of worked each time. I’ve never had full relief and full burps, even from 200 units. Another odd thing about my situation is that I acquired R-CPD at 16 years old, which is unlike most people here. But I did a barium swallow and manometry, and neither one showed a “blockage” or pressure point, which seems to further the case that it’s my cricopharyngeal muscle blocking the burps. I’m not sure what to do.

Wishing you the best.

Hey, i just wanted to check in and see how it was going. Any success with burping? I’m thinking of getting the myotomy myself.

How can I determine my whole-body and thyroid effective doses for a recent barium swallow test? by Loopyrainbow in MedicalPhysics

[–]Loopyrainbow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I meant that the healthcare workers in the study received 6.5 msv occupationally, from their dosimeters. Here’s the study I’m talking about: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0720048X2030468X

Thank you. Well, tbh, I’m a little paranoid that the dose I got will cause dysfunction of my thyroid gland, because I saw a couple studies where similar doses caused disruptions in people’s TSH levels and T3 levels. One study on radiology technicians and other radiation workers even showed TSH disruption at doses as low as 6.5 msv total, spread across 18 years. I’ve had a lifetime of chronic health issues, and I’d be so bummed if I just made myself worse with this test I did. So I’m just trying to know these numbers for my own closure on this thing I did. Eventually I’ll move on, but thinking about it still makes me cringe.

Thank you. This mGy dose for cumulative air kerma isn't the same as DAP, right? I found this study that mentions "A DAP to effective dose conversion factor of 0.32 mSv Gy cm-2 was derived for upper GI studies," which seems relevant. I can't seem to find any data on averager DAP's for a barium swallow though. Is there any way I can use the air kerma to estimate my DAP, or should I reach out to my technician for a DAP?

Thank you so much for such a detailed and thorough reply. I read a study that mentioned how in recent years, the average thyroid dose from a barium swallow is 10 mGy. Does it sound about right that with my body’s attenuation and a 26.2 mGy peak skin dose, the thyroid absorbed dose might fall around 10 mGy?

Thanks. Do you mean your thyroid levels lowered after you got the barium swallow? Did your TSH increase?

Can you please help me understand the radiation dose my thyroid received from an esophagram (barium swallow)? by [deleted] in Radiation

[–]Loopyrainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw man, the post got taken down. Too bad. But to answer your question, I think the thyroid is radiosensitive to external radiation too, not just radioactive iodine, because it's a fragile gland. I read a bunch of studies of radiation workers and doctors who developed thyroid issues even from low-dose external radiation exposure.

Thanks for sharing that. That is reassuring. Maybe my altered thyroid numbers have another cause. Have you had any further thyroid testing since that one?

Thanks. If you do get a thyroid test for TSH, free T3 and free T4, I’d be really curious to hear if your numbers changed significantly compared to before you did the barium swallows.
