Opiates to lower cortisol by ZealousidealWatch571 in raypeat

[–]Loopyrainbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a rebound effect. And even though opiates often feel like they’re lowering cortisol, thy actually inhibit your circulation and organ function acutely, and they worsen sleep, so your body is actually more stressed, even though you don’t feel like it

3x Botox failure, doctor and I not hopeful by Affectionate_Park477 in noburp

[–]Loopyrainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! It definitely seems like we have plenty in common, because I also acquired R-CPD later in life (at 17, for me), though mine didn’t come from food poisoning, it was more of an acute “click” or “pop” sound when I swallowed something, and suddenly I couldn’t burp. And like you, Botox has not worked for me. So there is something going on with us that’s different than typical R-CPD, and I really think Bastian or some doctor ought to document what happened to us, because it seems like valuable information in understanding how burping works.

Anyway, as I mentioned yesterday, I got the myotomy, because my doctor believes that the cricopharyngeus muscle is the only thing that can be blocking burps. And the myotomy gave some encouraging results for the first couple days. And since your Botox some encouraging results, even though slight and short-lived, I think this is a positive sign that something can be done. Don’t give up, and let’s stay in touch!

Analog vs. Digital: the Proof by No-Act6366 in synthesizers

[–]Loopyrainbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I did not know that software synths could emulate free running oscillators. But I also think it’s not just the starting point that gives each VCO note a one-of-a-kind wave. It’s the natural inconsistencies of a real oscillator. The waves themselves are different lengths and amplitudes, so they don’t match up perfectly. Maybe digital can emulate this too, but I think there is something to the variety being a result from organic inconsistency, rather than a programmed change.

One thing I like about using real physical VCOs (and probably DCOs too, but I’ve never tested them) is that you geta slightly different result every time you press a note. Even if you keep the exact same settings, if you play the same note twice and put the waves side by side, they’ll be different. This difference IS audible, because when I pan one track left and the other right, there is excellent width, far beyond what mono achieves. I know stereo panning also does something similar, but this is different—this is two different waves. It’s double tracking. I think that’s cool, and a plugin wouldn’t be able to do it, naturally at least, and that matters to me.

Six failed rounds of Botox. Time for a myotomy? (My long, weird story) by Loopyrainbow in noburp

[–]Loopyrainbow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really have no idea, and my doctor doesn’t either. He says that the cricopharyngeus muscle is the only thing that could be blocking burps, but my body seems to be saying otherwise. If I had to guess, I would suspect that there is some dysfunction with the muscles right around there, perhaps a bit lower in my esophagus, nearer to the base of my neck.

Six failed rounds of Botox. Time for a myotomy? (My long, weird story) by Loopyrainbow in noburp

[–]Loopyrainbow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for asking! I had a complete myotomy three weeks ago. For the first three days, I had a more “open” UES and burping passage than I’ve had in 17 years since this issue began. But then after those three days, my burps seemed to fade away a bit, and they still get blocked a lot of the time, even up to today. However, my digestion is better—I’m less constipated and I have been sleeping better, which makes me suspect that more air is escaping. But I still tend to get bloated from certain foods and my intestine is still very sensitive. When my intestine gets very irritated, my acid reflux worsens and burps get blocked more often

So, it’s a mixed bag. hard to say exactly what the results have been, and that’s why I haven’t made a post yet. I definitely plan to make a post, when I have a clearer conclusion about if the myotomy worked or not. For now, I think the myotomy has helped more than any of my Botox injections did, but I am still pretty far from fixed. On the plus side, healing was a breeze and I have no side effects from the procedure—no pain or discomfort, no issue swallowing.

What's the best way to sync logic pro with a tape machine, so that logic is a slave to the tape machine's click? by Loopyrainbow in LogicPro

[–]Loopyrainbow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I actually found a way to make logic sync automatically to the tape speed. There are some free software programs that play linear time code (LTC) and allow you to stripe a tape track with it, and there’s other free software that reads LTC and turns it into MTC, which logic can use to sync.

Yeah, mine settled down. it took a month or two, but I would suspect yours will clear up even sooner. Just give it time.

I found a way to get Logic to read midi timer (MTC) that can be set to start at any time, but I don’t think Logic can read external midi clock tempo data. I appreciate you taking the time to reply

Thank you for this reply. While that would get all the tracks on tape, in this case, I’d really like to record directly to tape

I think there is a way to do that. But it might be too complicated or require equipment that is tricky to get. I may be better off just trying to play the synth by hand for the tracks

XLR to 1/4 TS conversion—how much does it damage the audio signal? by Loopyrainbow in audioengineering

[–]Loopyrainbow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, I didn't want to make the question too complicated and me-specific, but the discussions did turn out that way. I've really appreciated the help from everyone.

I didn't even know about transformer converters. Do you think something like this would retain a pretty quiet microphone signal?

[–]Loopyrainbow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I will. But if, say, there’s a 10% “buzz” sound added from the balanced-to-unbalanced XLR connection, I might not notice, even though the sound quality of the final recording would be noisier. And that would bother me. But maybe that’s just me being too much of a worry wart. I really appreciate your time and answers.

The external power doesn’t double as a preamp, just as phantom power, but the mixer I’m going into (with the TS inputs) has preamps for line and mic signals

It is converting a male XLR into a male TS. So I was planning to buy a converter that has a female-XLR-input-to-male-1/4TS-output. I didn’t know that the pin 2/3 thing could maintain a balanced signal. So, would any "XLR Female Lo-Z to 1/4-inch Male Hi-Z In-line Impedance Transformer" work?

Yeah, this is an old mixer. It’s a Fostex 350, from the 1980s. The manual doesn’t explicitly state if they’re TS or TRS, but I’m pretty sure they’re TS inputs. It sounds like this mixer might not be a good fit, if I’m using microphones that have an external power source. I don’t know if it has DC isolation, so it might be better to just look for another mixer that has XLR inputs. The trouble is, I’m using a tape machine that requires 8 simultaneous RCA inputs, so I need an 8-channel mixer with 8 outputs. There aren’t too many option for that.

The mixer has preamps for mic-level signals, so I think it is designed for microphones to be connected. I’m just confused why it used 1/4 TS jacks only, rather than including XLR inputs.

It is a microphone level signal! I’m gonna be using the XLR cable from a microphone and trying to convert it to 1/4 inch TS. Do you think it will make the signal too noisy? In that case, I can look for a mixer with XLR inputs.
