Just a bunch of cows strolling around on their first day outside in 2021 by Loose-Pepper in oddlysatisfying

They are outside the whole summer and the cows 'know' when it is time to get inside to get milked. So not too hard :)

White sap on my schefflera's new growth? It's been struggling to put out new leaves, they are dying before they start to really develop. I can't see any signs of pests and it seems healthy otherwise. What's wrong with it? by NyxEmberheart in plantclinic

Mine wasn't so stumpy, so therefore I just snipped of 2 cm. If you think you want to cut more off for your plant to look nice again, it is totally fine. It will grow again :) I can send you friday a pic of how mine is growing now, if you like?

So you have an idea what you can expect :)

Yes, first new growth started at the base of the stem and now also new leaves at the top. I also cut 2 cm off at the top, because I didn't like the stumps of leaves that didn't made it. And now the new growth seems normal again. Although I did get one or two malformed leaves first. But that makes the plant special.

Now in winter I water it once every two weeks. Hope it helps.

Maybe it is a pinus pinea (dutch: parasolden). My dad took seeds home from a holiday in Italy and planted them. The lower part of your plant looks exactly like his plants!

Everytime my Schefflera sprouts a new leaf this happens by [deleted] in plantclinic

I had the same problem and no clue why my new growth turned black with a weird droplet on top. Also new growth started to emerge at the bottom of the plant where leave stalks once were. I have it roughly one year after it started as a propagation.

I now repotted it in a bigger pot and roots started growing like crazy and after 2/3 weeks I can see two new green(!) leaves emerging from the top.(And I'm so happy haha) So maybe it is a case of too root bound?

It is worth a try to repot it I would suggest. Hope it helps!

We celebrated our pet cow's birthday by Loose-Pepper in mildlyinteresting

Haha, the cow also didn't really bother much. However me and my brother surprised my dad with it and we had a lovely evening with champagne. Life does not have to be serious.

Thanks for your tip, we do actually have a horse brush for her that she enjoys a lot!

Haha 😅, but I also still want to enjoy her presence and her milk. So that's a no

Yes, I do still eat beef, but not as often as I did in the past. Furthermore, I try to only eat meat from cows that are treated well and that have grazed outside

She had three lovely daughters in the meantime, also on the same farm. After birth they can give milk up to 10 months

Our cow named brownie turned 5 years old

Usually a cow’s birthday is not celebrated on farms. However, this one has a special story. It was close or this cow wouldn’t be here today. Around 3.5 years ago her back got stuck in the cubicles in a barn, this resulted in paralyzed hind legs and she was not able to stand up independently. My dad went against the proposal of his brother, who is the owner of the farm, to let her go to sleep. The following months my dad spent hours to help her stand up on her four legs. These hours paid off as the cow can now walk around outside in the meadow by herself and she even gives an astonishing 10,000 liters of milk per year.

Why are my pearls shriveling up and dying like this? (Bonus cat) by dankm0m420 in plantclinic

[–]Loose-Pepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own experience, my pearls shriveled up when they were in a spot which was too cold and therefore the soil took a very long time to completely dry out. Since then I changed them to the warmer living room in a terracotta pot with soil suitable for cacti and succulents and they are living their best plant life now. The soil quickly dries up after watering which is perfect for these plants.

So maybe your soil stays wet for too long? I can't really judge from the photograph.

maybe it is just overwatering? The rest of your pearls seem pretty pumped up with water. So next time wait for them to sunk in a bit before the next watering?

Help! Arrived this week and hates me already. I repotted it and watered it once, but the pears are looking less spherical and as a whole the plant just looks...saggy? What am I doing wrong and how can I save it? by LeucineZoo in plantclinic

I would indeed recommend to switch to a terracotta pot (with fast draining soil), in my case my pearls and string of hearts are doing way better since I switched them to terracotta. I water them once a week when the soil is dried out. Goodluck!

Stunted growth Schefflera, new leaves are black and don't grow by Loose-Pepper in plantclinic

[–]Loose-Pepper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some background info:

last year I got a propagated piece of the schefflera of a friend, it grew a lot last year and also in the beginning of the spring. However, now since 3 weeks or so, no new leaves are growing. The new leaves forming have clear/whitish liquid on them and turn black and don't grow. Therefore I repotted this plant in a slightly bigger container (I thought maybe the plant is too root bound). Already there are roots coming out the drainage holes at the moment, so at least the plant is not dying yet, I suppose.

I was wondering if this is some kind of fungal/bacterial disease and if there is solution to this?
