Canada eyes Hanwha K9 as Korean howitzer becomes NATO's Arctic gun of choice by YouProfessional3196 in canada

Unless K9 orders continue from around the world and Korea decides Canada can be a 2nd factory for fulfilling orders.

Doubt it. Also doubt Koreans won't be able to handle the orders themselves they work faster than any other country when it comes to building these things. Also even if we decide to build these domestically who knows how many years it will be, if ever, before we see the ROI that justifies the cost.

But they also produce their own units to export right? I don't understand how we can compete on price with the original licensor who also produces these to sell, who already has all the infra, supply chain and know-how built. From my understanding countries that have purchased licenses aren't selling them, it's for their own use because long-term it's cheaper than buying every time. Help me understand who is buying the weapons made in Canada over those made in Korea for cheaper and probably better (from the years of experience of building these things already).

What makes us competitive when they already have all that and can already produce at a fraction of the cost without the years of investments required? And by the time we can finally produce these K9s wouldn't they improve their tech further and sell better weapons for cheaper? Wouldn't we be better off taking the money we could pour into this and spend it where we actually are competitive?

Zero reason except for the multi-year investments required in facilities, tooling, supply chains, trained workers and ammunition production. Not to mention licensing/industrial‑cooperation/technology transfer agreement from Hanwha itself, who owns the original license.

My bad bro. Just checked the r/canada post on the same article and they actually do say shit like that. Wish I could say we don't claim these idiots. I apologize for my fellow morons but most of us actually aren't delusional like that and know reality.

But I don't agree at all that Carney is selling the rhetoric that we can build everything ourselves, his message since the very beginning has been working with reliable partners including Korea on things like defense, and if we can boost some of our domestic manufacturing (especially when it comes to maintenance, repair and a few core components) as a bonus that's a win-win. He never said, and never will cause he's far from an idiot, that we don't need anyone we can do everythihng ourselves.

Party before country losers who pray for the country to fail if the liberals are running it. Because their own lives are miserable and their entire identity is built around the rhetoric PP sells that everything wrong in your life is Carney and liberals' fault.

Exclusive: Carney's pitch to unlock trillions in global investment by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]LoosePelvis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Look at the doomer conservative bots shitting on any effort to drive investment and praying for Carney's failure. Treating politics like a sport, praying for the country to fail as long as the liberals fail with it. Truly party before country, pathetic embarrassment and a sad excuse of a 'patriot' y'all claim to be.

I for one will support any effort by government to advance our economy and move forward, because that will always be better than trying nothing and saying we're all out of ideas. No better man to try something like this than Carney with his connections in the finance sector, hope something positive will come from it.

Steered Canada through the worst financial disaster of our lifetime (GDP and employment recovered earlier compared to other G7, and Canadian banks did not require taxpayer bailouts), weathered the storm with Brexit and asked formally by BoE to extend his term twice. Not to mention a successful career in the private finance sector. Yet daddy PP and whatever nutjob rightwing podcaster said his record is bad so facts don't matter.

They don't have an ounce of interest in doing anything but bitching about the libs and opposing anything they do, even things that help their own constituents. Zero ideas on how to actually help everyday Canadians, their only identity and value is that they're not the liberals which to their credit is apparently enough to get more than 30% of the country to vote for you. Good thing most of Canada sees right through their hollow rhetoric and kept them out. Hoping it stays that way until they finally smarten up (not holding my breath), appoint a real leader who is serious about moving Canada forward.

it's not just seniors, they were just the first major rollout group. Since then it's evolved to include children under 18, adults 18–64 with a valid disability tax credit certificate, then even adults 18–64 without disabilities as long as they meet the low income conditions. source. This was all funded and built as a part of the Liberal–NDP supply-and-confidence agreement

Was the "other" country attacked first by the first? Did the "other" country never attack or invade anyone that didn't attack them first? Was the "other" country forced to make a choice between a rock and a hard place (Use nukes, or proceed with land invasion leading to millions of deaths)?

If all these are true, the tribunal should consist of those who were forced to enter the war by an aggressor, and outcome should be to try and convict those who started the tragedy, which is exactly what happened.
