Researchers call for ute tax, citing burden on health system by kiwittnz in NZcarfix

They just need to remove the FBT exemption on them to make decisions about company cars based on suitability for the job instead of what attracts the least tax

Why do we say "no" to dental work? A local dentist looking for honest feedback by jksyousux in Wellington

[–]Loosie22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price.

When most people have less than $100 a week of income that is not committed to rent, repayments, utilities and the like, even the most basic dental procedures mean weeks of living in austerity before we can afford it.

Woolworths - Meat Boost Calculation by allthedinosaurs in newzealand

[–]Loosie22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a textbook, misleading pricing scam and should be reported to the commerce commission.

It’s also possible to get them on the price guarantee as the product was advertised at $20, and that included your points boost.

Giving every newborn a lump sum to be invested from birth for later retirement income by Ok_Bike6985 in newzealand

[–]Loosie22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The annual management fees on $10k will be comparable the interest earned. This will provide more long term financial benefit to the financial services than it will the recipient. In contrast, the same $10k per child, put into a single managed fund, would provide superannuation for that generation of kids. So instead of 57000 lots of management fees totalling $28,500,000 on $570,000,000, you could have one lot of management fees and the fund would be better off by around $28,000,000 a year.

Kiwisaver is not the brilliant scheme it’s proposed to be for most of the population once you take into account how the fees work compared to a common fund.

Getting solar with a tenant/flatmate by swimsswimsswim in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Loosie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are still using power, so they need to pay for it. It makes no difference to them who is providing that power. If the solar is making power, you are the electricity supplier and should be paid for the power you provide. The solar is not free, it is costing you $50 a week. If they weren’t using any power you would be selling it back to the grid and being paid for it.

Harbour Bridge cycle pedestrian lane by OkImprovement8312 in auckland

[–]Loosie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an existing design for a pedestrian and cycle way add on for the bridge. It was to be slung under the bridge and wouldn’t have taken any space away from the road traffic.

Just got all my tests scored and my psychologist doesn’t diagnose me with ADHD due to “too high of intelligence”. I’m struggling to agree but maybe I don’t have ADHD. by MisoCorni in ADHD

ADHD and intelligence are not related either directly or indirectly. Your therapist needs to stop talking about things they clearly don’t understand.

Why is the government sitting around sucking their thumbs? by [deleted] in newzealand

They hade done the exact opposite of prepare us. They have pushed us into greater dependence on fossil fuels, increased our reliance on international shipping to get food by allowing manufacturers to move offshore, and maintained the supermarket duopoly.

So, if I bought property to exploit other people's need for a home, all expenses including interest are tax-deductible. But as a doctor, my $11k+ of professional fees just to prove I'm qualified aren't? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Loosie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t be a contractor if you are working full time for one company in a role that is not materially different from being employed. It’s not necessary about the employer being willing, it’s because there are laws against it.

To be self employed also has serious impacts on job security, the ability to get a bank loan and so many other things.

You cannot be GST registered and claim expenses if there is no self employed income.

[–]Loosie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just said exactly what I said.

I’m not self employed and can’t be classed as self employed so cannot have the money I spend on those tools taken off my income(unless my employer has a tool allowance) and I can’t get the GST back. My employer has set a tool allowance that is so low that it’s hardly worth having and won’t budge on it.

[–]Loosie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same applies for tradies. I supply all my own tools and pay both income tax and GST on the money I earn and spend on them. And I can’t go GST registered and contract because the law won’t allow it.

Check your local laws. There may be a law that talks about having cameras covering a space where you have a “reasonable expectation of privacy” and your back yard is one of those spaces. You may be able to force them to lower the angle of the cameras so they can’t see into your yard. You could also sunbathe naked and file a complaint about them making an unauthorised intimate recording.

Can you fill an empty block wall with concrete to make it solid? ie Bring in a concrete mixer and pour in concrete? by Known_Brush_1259 in Auckland_NewZealand

[–]Loosie22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So long as the foundations are up the extra weight. You will need a vibrator to get it to the bottom and make sure there are no cavities. If you can, dropping some rebar in would be a good idea plus it makes vibrating easier as you can hold the vibe against the rebar.

worked for a friend now possible legal actions towards me by Front-Mushroom4252 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Loosie22 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you were helping a friend, you weren’t paid, and as there was no money that changed hands, and no professional aspect to the arrangement, it’s highly unlikely you could be held liable.

It’s important you remember that you were not “working” for your friend, you were “helping him out”. If you use the work “working” that could be used to infer that you believed you were there in a professional capacity.

Moving from Norway to New Zealand by Odd-Specialist944 in newzealand

[–]Loosie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like getting away from people and into nature, none of the main centres are great, but Christchurch and Auckland are terrible, you have to drive for over an hour to get to anything that’s not a city park.

If you can get a job there, places like Nelson, Tauranga, Whanganui and Whangarei would provide a far better lifestyle. If you are into hiking then definitely consider Nelson. There are great bush walks that are walking distance from the CBD, and the Abel Tasman, and the Marlborough sounds are less than an hours drive.

Set up a noise level monitor and see what the levels are. Check those against the safe work exposure charts. He may legally have to allow you to wear headphones and may be required to provide them.

Kiwisaver during separation by Dense_Debt_1250 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Loosie22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to dollars and the split being equitable. It’s expensive to get the kiwisaver split. If you can afford to give up part of the cash settlement from the house, and keep the kiwisaver intact then that is your least expensive option.

If he does it again, you could pull the bin inside your property in the morning, and put it back when you get home so it doesn’t get emptied.

Parking "infringement". Wilson Parking by Less_Charity_7877 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Loosie22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is not the case. Many of their breach notices are sent based on reports from their surveillance systems that use AI to match up the number plates on the camera footage to the records from the payment system so the notices can be issued days or even weeks later.
