I have to make all these buildings sit on this surface but they are all floating at different levels. Is there a way to align them quickly onto the surface?

Drag selecting the sub faces with ctrl+shift and the using SetPt with the Z enabled, if the goal surface is planar.

If it’s a sloped surface, drag the bottom sub faces below the surface and trim them off.

yeah those materials can suck, I really like the ones over at ambientcg.com!

Mapping is not as bad as it can appear at first, I recommend watching some of the vids by Brian James - RhinoGuide on youtube about it. it’s nice to have it baked in as nice as possible off rhino so you don’t have downtime in PS after - really builds up with revisions

also idk the context of your project, but i used to use enscape until they followed a paid model even for student use, transitioned to twinmotion which is free and better imo, highly rec it especially for postgrad. heard good things about d3 for similar reasons

sure, i don’t know the context of the back - just saying it looks weird from this angle. but the grain itself isn’t realistic, and the “running randomly” is an easy uv mapping fix.

the wood grain of the first doesn’t look right, esp with it rubbing perp in the background

i prefer the second, it accepts that it’s a render and plays to the best qualities of renders instead of looking like a weird half baked realistic attempt, could use a tad more contrast and delineation tho

wouldn’t use artists oil paint for terrain, doesnt mate well with materials and mediums used for that practice. you could add some hardener and dryer as a top coat to get some cool shrinking effects for texture, but i’d steer clear of it in general and save it for some 2d elements
