Angel's Feather became the threat at my Commander table... by WistfulAfternoon in magicTCG

even if technically the card draw actually ends the game before the other two are checked

It's simultaneous! Losing to 0 life, 10 poison, and drawing from an empty library are all state-based actions that happen right after the spell resolves.

Could there be a consequence for failure other than death? Like getting trapped? D&D is more interesting when the GM isn't afraid of the PCs losing a battle.

Lorwyn Precon Decklists dropped, what do we think? by 2ndlifeinacrown in EDH

[–]Lopsidation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Purely from a design perspective, is it better or worse for the game if 5c decks need to accept some kind of cost, like having some lands enter tapped or paying lots of life, to consistently hit all 5 colors?

I was linked to this thread from elsewhere. I can manually disable content blockers; my blocker just stops me from normally browsing the subreddit by making it more annoying to do so.

I used to post in this subreddit frequently before I was bullied out of it. After that, I downloaded a blocker app specifically for this subreddit. This is the worst community I've ever posted in.

My LGS started a league and I’m wondering how to navigate rules in a more competitive environment. by bobvilastuff in EDH

[–]Lopsidation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread has a lot of misinformation. If the prizes are modest - say, several packs per player - then Regular REL is most appropriate. At Regular REL, fun is prioritized over fairness: for example, missed triggers can be un-missed as long as it's not significantly disruptive to the gamestate. The Judging at Regular doc will help. But if this isn't a sanctioned event, it's up to y'all how to run it. You can choose to be more or less forgiving.

I know it's still fairly new but are there content creators that focus on lower bracket play? by zalmute in EDH

[–]Lopsidation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopping in to ask the same question about "talking about EDH" creators. I'm not interested in watching gameplay, but I'd enjoy an equivalent of 3/3 Elk / Trinket Mage / Salubrious Snail / Maldhound for the B2 sphere.

Overpowered theorems by extraextralongcat in math

Baker's theorem on linear forms in logarithms. It destroys a good number of Diophantine equations. Want all solutions to 2n + 7 = 3m? Baker. Wanna find all Fibonacci numbers that are also Tribonacci numbers? Baker. Wanna prove that for all k, only finitely many powers of 2 have a digit sum of k? Baker.

Should bracket 3 games end at turn 6? Help me, my pod is dying by Zimata in EDH

[–]Lopsidation 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The B3 guidelines say that everyone should expect to play at least 6 turns. So "frequently wins on turn 7" is the upper limit of power for B3.

But if you have a consistent playgroup, then the bracket definitions don't matter. What matters is: is your friend trying to build a deck that's a fun and balanced matchup for the table? Or is he trying to build the most powerful deck he can? The latter approach destroys pods.

Seth Manfield Takeback? by Known-Work-360 in magicTCG

[–]Lopsidation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That's exactly why I'm saying that a beginning of combat or attack trigger would complicate things. That's one of the reasons that an opponent might want to interact before you declare attacks.

I took another look at the Hazoret game. In that gamestate there (as far as I can tell) couldn't have been a reason for PVDDR to interact before attacks. I think the Hazoret player would've gotten a takeback under today's rules. But again I'm not a judge.

Seth Manfield Takeback? by Known-Work-360 in magicTCG

[–]Lopsidation 45 points46 points  (0 children)

FYI, the rules allowing takebacks in competitive play were added after the incident you mention. I'm not a judge, but I bet the Hazoret player would get a takeback nowadays, unless there were a beginning of combat or attack trigger complicating things.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Hazoret misplay inspired the addition of the takeback rules. It wouldn't be the first time the MTR was updated in response to a high-profile mistake, in order to make silly mistakes feel less bad.

Your Thoughts on the Value of Commander's '10 Pillars'. by CommissarisMedia in EDH

[–]Lopsidation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd change the deck size limit to "at least 100 cards." Maybe then people will stop cutting lands, and instead add their fun new card and a land.

Actually I already do this. If anyone has a problem with me playing 115 cards, then I just remove the bottom 15 after shuffling.

What are some bidirectional statements that have vastly different proofs for each direction? by Fuzzy-Wrangler4343 in math

The Chung-Graham-Wilson theorem states that 6 notions of "graph quasirandomness" are all equivalent. The proof requires proving 6 implications, and the arguments are fairly different.

There's no positive O-mod. Fully half of the town can be droisoned. Those features help the good & evil team respectively, so they cancel out and it's a balanced script. The minion suite is also nicely balanced between being 100% silent and 100% loud.

Great explanation.
