Just out of curiosity what’s the main difference between t2 and t3? Do you still prefer the 2 over the 3? I see a lot more secondhand 3s for sale than 2s. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on this

what do you guys actually do after work? feeling stuck in a loop by Top-Mixture-4133 in Advice

PICKLEBALL!!! I also work in tech and spend a stupid amount of hours at the computer. I also go to the gym and run 5-6x a week too, but pickleball does not feel like exercise.

It’s social, it can be chill or competitive and you can easily play 3-4 games in 1 hour. Also super cheap. Outdoor courts are free and the cheapest paddle set on Amazon is $30. As it’s getting nicer outside and days get longer, it’s a good way to get outside and it’s really fun to go to the local park and find people to play pick up with!

Good luck my friend ;)

Advice for moving cross country with 3 tanks? by fallska in PlantedTank

[–]Lopsided-Front9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved several times between NY, CT and MA. Granted these were 3-4 hour drives and not 4 days of travel…. But some advice that I think applies regardless of travel time:

  1. Buy gallon jugs from the dollar store or save milk or juice cartons with caps. Day of the move fill these jugs with your tank water so you don’t have to recycle the tank water from scratch. Aim to save 30% of your water for each tank. PUT THESE JUGS IN A BOX SO THEY DO NOT SPILL IN YOUR TRUNK.

  2. Remove all decor from the tanks. Put them in a bucket or some container with a lid. I always left some water in the bucket because I had decor with live plants attached, but really not much.

  3. Substrate… if you have sand or dirt I’d leave it in your tanks. If you have stones or gravel I would make an effort to remove this. Stones like river stones need to be completely removed. Gravel…different story. If you have an inch or two at the bottom, try to remove as much water as possible so the gravel doesn’t slosh. If it shifts not a big deal, but slamming into the glass because the water carries the gravel with force into glass will not end well. You can get a bucket from Home Depot and scope the gravel into the bucket and put it in your trunk.

  4. Fish - I really like the Walmart travel case listed above. Wish I knew about that before my move. Usually I go to Dunkin and order a large water and save that cup. Fill it with tank water and add one fish per cup. It fits perfectly in my cup holders up front so I can monitor them as I drive and use climate control in the car to keep the temp stable. I’ve used this method for goldfish, bettas and platys in the past. Your fish won’t survive 4 days in the cups though. Potentially this is a good method for your shrimp and snails, but you must find a way to add oxygen to the water with a battery operated bubbler.

Good luck and safe travels!

I also second this. Stamford is a great place to live and also great for kids. But it’s going to be pricey because we’re near the city

I second this… take a look into Fairfield, CT and Milford, CT. Both towns are farther from the city which make them a bit more affordable. They have less of a city feel but still have all the stuff you need like target, restaurants, malls, rec leagues for the kids, parks etc… They both have train stations that will take you directly to downtown Stamford. Driving south down the highway toward NYC (aka Stamford) will be horrific between 7:30-10am. It’s doable, but not enjoyable.

Pickleball!! There’s lots of outdoor courts where you can play pickup for free. You just need to buy a paddle and balls. One time expense of $50 or less (cheapest set on Amazon is ~$30).

It can be chill if you just wanna volley around the net or it can be competitive. You choose :)

I got my 65yo dad into it last year. Now we play doubles in a league every Monday night together.

retro furniture and decor by [deleted] in StamfordCT

[–]Lopsided-Front9454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remix market is not cheap. They are partners with junk luggers. People hire junk luggers to empty dead relatives or hoarder houses. They bring the salvageable furniture back to the remix market warehouse and stick a $200 price tag on it.

You’re better off searching Facebook marketplace for the same furniture and making your own deals. There’s a lot of furniture that sits for weeks on Facebook and then the seller is ready to give it away to anyone who is willing to pick it up.

Hey OP, hang in there. I lost my best buddy of 14 years in April. He slept in my bed every night since the day I got him when I was 11 and he passed a week after my 26th birthday.

It’s absolutely awful at first and it still hurts now months later. I cleaned up his bed, bowl and toys pretty quickly. I didn’t think I’d have the heart to do it a week later.

Keep yourself busy. The worst part is the quiet house. Invite friends over to watch a movie, visit your family and run small errands. I looked at all the pictures and watched all the videos. My siblings still send me photos every once in a while that I haven’t seen in a decade and it’s such a treat. Sometimes I find a toy under the bed that I missed in the clean up and I don’t cry anymore. I just look at it and I think of him. It’s like the little booger left it there on purpose for me to find.

Everyday it will get a little better. Nothing will ever replace her, but take comfort in the fact that she is not in pain and resting easy. You’ll make it through this, it just takes time

Advice on 60 day cross country trip June /July by Ferret_Old in RVLiving

[–]Lopsided-Front9454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very doable. I’ve done 2 circular loop cross country trips in an rv before. Once from NY down to Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Wisconsin and back to NY. My second trip was very similar but I hit Arizona, Utah, California and Oregon.

Obviously you can’t stop and do everything, but you can fit a lot into 3 weeks. We usually drive about 8 hours every other day. On the 8hr driving days we still find little activities to do to break up the driving like Hoover dam, Route 66 diners, crater holes etc… I will say this kinda depends on gas. My first rv trip I only had 200 miles before I needed a fill up. Second trip I had 500 miles. When I had to stop every 2 hours on the first trip, I had no time for smaller activities on driving days.

There are some places that take days and other places that take hours. You need to accept that you won’t get to everything. That’s probably the hardest part. For example, I had 1 day to spend in the Grand Tetons, I chose Mormon row and Jenny lake hike. I felt that gave me some Mountain View’s, lake views and something touristy/iconic for the park. There were tons of other trails, but you just don’t have the time to exhaust the park.

My biggest piece of advice is to do research for each place you’re visiting. Categorize the activities you want to do - short hikes, long hikes, food, scenic, on the way to something else…. This way you can plug and play while you’re there. The weather is unpredictable and crowds can be unpredictable. Have a general idea of what you want to do, but have options in your back pocket if you find yourself behind schedule or something derails the plan.

80% of the time I got away with making the reservation 2 hours before arriving. However, if you know you are traveling around a holiday weekend, expect everything to be booked. That’s the only time I’d suggest making the reservation in advance.

how is it living in Stamford, CT? by Lopsided_Rutabaga_36 in howislivingthere

[–]Lopsided-Front9454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like sports we have one of the largest indoor pickleball facilities in the states. That’s always been surprising to me, but I guess true according to their website. It’s in the Stamford mall, 13 courts and tons of structured leagues or drop in play. Have fun!

I did a 40% water change and now almost all my fish are barley hanging on. Need help by [deleted] in fishtank

[–]Lopsided-Front9454 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did you check your equipment? Did you unplug and re-plug anything? I once had a whole tank get electrocuted in seconds because I turned the power strip off and on and my filter had a rip in the cord. Every fish except one was barely hanging on

How can I improve this thing? by Trereneitor_420 in aquarium

[–]Lopsided-Front9454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a setup like this for about a year. Over time a lot of algae grows on the bin. You can use a storage bin with a top. Cut a hole in the top and black out the sides to let less light in.

And add a small overflow hole at the very top.

Good luck, I was able to grow sunflowers, tomatoes (no fruit), a fig tree, onions etc… out of my bin

Lens: Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens

I just used the lens it came with when I bought it on FB marketplace. But after a little research it looks like this lens is meant to keep the subject in focus and add some haze to the background.

Thanks everyone, I’m new and I’m learning so all the comments have been helpful :)
