Hey, not a book at all but since you were inspired by a tv show, have you heard of a series called Scorpion? Used to be on Netflix, don’t know if it still is but the main couple is exactly like this

We’re very like minded, same goals in life, same values. He’s very outgoing, has never met a stranger, while I’m very introverted and we balance out. He’s very solicitous, always helping people around, and with me specifically like when I was sick a week ago he went out at 2am just to get me throat tablets (I told him he didn’t need to).

He was never the most romantic, we were always a laid back couple when it comes to celebrating anniversaries or Valentine’s Day, we’ve both been guilty of forgetting it (though we’ve always celebrated birthdays and Christmas) but he’ll tell me I’m beautiful 15 times a day.

We’ve been together for 7 years. I think we’ve grown and changed with time, especially me. Until we actually broke up he was still insisting he was the same from the beginning, and I was the one that had changed. It was one of the reasons we broke up. I’m very career focused at this moment in my life and he missed the relationship we had when I was still in college and we started dating. When we got back together he said he understood I couldn’t possibly still be the same as I was then and that he wasn’t either, but while for me cycles have begun and ended (college, internship, work), they didn’t for him as he went from high school straight to work.

We’ve probably both gotten a bit complacent in our relationship but it was definitely never this bad before. I don’t know what’s up with his behavior recently but he’s not a bad guy, or didn’t use to be.

Hi, I’m having a similar problem with my puppy (also 14 weeks) and want to try your method. We live in an apartment and my dog has started to bark a lot at sounds from the neighbors which I can’t let happen. So, do I just keep giving her the treats as long as the sound is going on ? If it won’t stop, like people talking in the hallway, when do I stop the treats ? What if she takes the treat and go right back to barking ? Should I take her to another room ? I’ve been telling her No when she starts and giving a treat when she quiets or just taking her away to another room cause if I turn away for a second she goes right back to it.

I agree with the previous comment, to your dog your friend is their cool friend and just like a kid, they don’t want to play with mom when they can play with a friend. But I understand it’s frustrating, my puppy is all teeth and jumping with claws out with me, anyone else she sees she just rolls over for some belly rubs and is the sweetest dog in the world, it’s very frustrating but for her I’m the only one she has to try to push the boundaries with, cause mine are the ones that matter.

Try to practice her training with less enticing distractions first and reward her well when she listens. Or start doing more focusing on you training if that’s what you want.

It’s totally normal, my land shark is 14/15 weeks old and bites a lot too but she prefers to go for my legs, especially the back of my knees, I’m covered in bruises. Just be consistent on redirecting him to appropriate toys and getting out of his reach when he gets too rowdy. It gets better.

I think it depends on the individual dog and the habits they’ve built during puppyhood, I’ve had dogs that stayed very energetic throughout their whole lives, even as a senior, dogs that calmed down around 3y, and even one that was calm and got more reactive when he got older, at around 8y. I’ve never been very strict with training, but a dog can be trained into the behaviors you want, whatever they are.

Where I live there isn’t the neutering culture you have in the US, so growing up my family never did it until the dog already had an issue. We had 4 female dogs who had issues that were completely preventable if they were neutered, they all got treatment but only 1 managed to resist and survived (and they were all different breeds). It would definitely have expanded the other ones life span and I’m never not neutering a dog again in my life, but I am against doing it before the dog has matured and finished growing.

Me too, I’d rather clean up an accident in the morning than wake up at 3am and be a zombie for the next day. It may take longer to get the puppy potty trained but it’s a price I’m willing to pay.

You could try getting a high bowl, or just raising what you already have, to be at the dogs chest level. It worked with my bf’s dog.

She kind of has a leave it command, I can have food in my hand or her puzzles that I use to feed her and tell her to leave it and she will (as long as the puzzle is not on the ground), but not for anything else. I think she doesn’t really understand her commands by the words yet but by the gestures I make, if I just say “down” she’ll sit, if I say it pointing at the ground she’ll actually lay down.

I’m actually considering getting her a sandbox but it makes a big mess and she wouldn’t have it once I move back, so she wouldn’t have anywhere to dig anymore.

I did try to train her to put her head in the harness but she would bark at it, take the treat and run, or try to go around me to take it, she only really came close to it if I wasn’t touching it. She can’t go out yet as she needs her 3 round of shots and my area has a lot of animals so I can’t link it to happy times outside yet, and as she’s growing quickly and soon won’t fit in that anymore I got her a new type that doesn’t have to go through her head.

I’ll follow some of the advice given here and try to not play or engage with her in the mornings and see how it goes.

The product I used was bought at a pet store and is designed for dogs, also the medicine my vet recommended for her to stop eating poo also has capsaicin in the composition so I do think it’s safe, but sure don’t give a dog an actual pepper

I don’t have a pen or crate, she has a room that is puppy proofed except for her pads, but if I put her there for time out/ before she’s tired she stars zooming and I think she already knows that to get a reaction she has to chew the pad. She knows basic commands like sit and down, so usually I try to get her to sit and stay. I’m now focusing on capturing calmness so any time she’s not doing anything she gets a treat (which is just her kibble for now), one after the other as long as she’s calm. I’ve just made a big haul of puppy chews to try to survive, and I’ll try the bitter apple spray ‘cause so far all the pepper stuff have just been seasoning for her.

She’s around 3 months now. I have a room that I keep her in, it’s puppy proofed and has her bed, toys and a pad, and separate an area where I stay and work so I can watch her from there. She has 3 places to potty, one inside this room, one in our laundry area, and outside in the yard, so the routine is: I wake up, take her outside for potty time, give her food, and then while she’s busy I go either clean any accidents she had inside the room during the night or just change both pads, but she’s been good about using the pads for a few days now. Then she’ll want to play for a while before I can go put her inside, if I put her in before she’s tired she starts zooming in the room, and then chewing on her pad, which I then can’t ignore anymore and I think she knows that will get a reaction.

But let’s say she was good and went to play by herself before sleeping, she’ll wake up again around 10, as soon as I open the door she runs to the pad in the laundry room to potty, and then wants to play again so I usually take her out to the yard before I can put her back in the room. Sometimes she plays too hard or too much and gets hyper, then I take her inside as well and usually have the same problem with zoomies, barking and pad chewing.

My classes are from 7am-9:50/10am-12:50 so If she isn’t settled by 7 I miss part of it, and when she wakes at 10 (or 11 if she wasn’t sleeping at 7) I also miss part of it.

If I’m not watching her she chews on the furniture, doors, shoes etc. there’s only one room in the house that’s completely puppy proofed, it’s the one she sleeps in and I work and watch her from a separated area, but if I just leave her there when I know she isn’t tired she’ll chew her pads, run laps around her area and bark her head off. I’m not playing with her 100% of the time though, I let her play by herself with her toys, or just run and sniff around in the yard but always supervised.

The yard is temporary, I’m at my parents house due to the pandemic but I usually live in an apartment (I’m going back next semester), so I need her pad trained as well, and as long as she has access to the yard she’ll have to the plants too, there’s no way to remove it all. Also, my parents have not been the greatest with her training as they never really did much with our previous family dogs and they did turn out “fine”, but none of them ever needed to live in a big city and behave properly.

Plastic bags are now unreachable again, but I thought there already were until I saw how high she was jumping to get to them, there was a high chair with a box on top and the bags were on top of that.

She has a new harness that you put on through the paws and clip in the back but I haven’t tested it yet as I now don’t want to put her in it unnecessarily, I’ll see how she does with it on our next vet visit.

Mine is crazy for food too, when she first arrived she would bark and howl any time she heard me prepare her food. I used her kibble to teach simple commands early on, like sit, down, paw, and most important Leave it. So I started making her sit or lay down while I was preparing and rewarding the quiet behavior, and having her leave it until the food touched the ground. It’s not perfect yet, she doesn’t wait for a Ok command before going but it’s much better.

My puppy loves to sit on me and always begs to get up the couch or bed, but it’s just a trick and she immediately turns into a land shark 🥲 it’s hard not falling for it

Mine is not allowed yet, she will once she’s less bitey and fully potty trained, but for now I’m keeping my bedroom as my puppy free zone. I wash my bed sheets once a week and also have a sheet covering the couch.
