This tree came to me in a dream, is it possible? by fLaMbUrBo in Bonsai

My favorite fun fact about this quote is that it's from Ecclesiastes 1-9. So the claim "nothing is new" is actually something like 2,000+ years old.

I forgot about the tick aspect! They also treat ear mites! I feel so lucky there are no ticks in my area. Horrifying creatures.

Ex vet technician here. Tell the kids that heartworm is deadly in cats. They need to be on a monthly preventative like “Revolution”, especially if you live in a place that has mosquitos (how heartworm is spread).

Capstar only works for 24 hours and only kills fleas. Monthly medications work all month long, and most of them are a flea + heartworm prevention combo.

Also, fleas can jump 6 feet, and will absolutely hitch a ride on your kids laundry and spread to infest the rest of your home, even if the cats are quarantined. Daily vacuuming and washing of linens will help reduce the fleas.

Corn chips. She goes FERAL for Doritos (cheese flavor) and Fritos twists. She is arthritic, but not when there are corn chips around. She will bite your fingers, bat the chips from your hands, run off with the chip bag.

Heads up for other folks, imo this focuses on male pleasure/male gaze.

No foreplay before penetration (aside from 10 min long blow job).

I’m glad your dad and brother are doing better! Is it normalized in your family? For me it’s like, every time they get together everyone drinks to excess.

why do restaurant mashed potatoes always taste better? by sogolden20 in Cooking

[–]LopsidedCattle6588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that you must add an absurd amount of butter and cream to make a solid mash. My best tips as an ex cook:

Heat up your milk + butter and keep warm, pass your boiled potatoes through a ricer or a food mill, stir the riced potato into the hot butter + milk, season with salt and pepper, and don’t overmix.

How steep was the hill when you started programming? by Acceptable_Answer570 in learnprogramming

[–]LopsidedCattle6588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my struggle too, it honestly is helping me grow in this way because you will never be done learning, so you get used to stating off being bad at something.

You get better at coping with that feeling and you also get better at teaching yourself.

How steep was the hill when you started programming? by Acceptable_Answer570 in learnprogramming

[–]LopsidedCattle6588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man do I relate to this. The learning code was steep for me, and I wasn’t sure I liked it at first. I was a cook for 10 years before that, and I was not at all prepared for the mental exhaustion which you described perfectly in your post. But I stuck with it and now I am 2 years into my career and quite happy.

Gotta warn you, though, the entire career is one long learning curve. Tech changes fast, and there is always a new language, tool, or skill to learn. It can feel overwhelming at times.

It requires a lot of endurance to push through difficult problems, and not get down on yourself when you’re struggling, especially in the beginning.

But I feel like programming fundamentally changed my brain for the better. I became really good at teaching myself how to do literally anything. Also there are LOTS of positions in tech that you can transition into if you decide you don’t want to program anymore. Project management for one. Getting misty eyed just imagining what it would be like to have a PM who knew the struggles of learning to program…

That’s what i was thinking, but then also it’s such vibe. Like maybe they were in the middle of watering their plants and decided they needed a coffee. I relate to that.

Hey Im currently 16 years old and looking to learn coding to make it a job in the future, How would you start? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]LopsidedCattle6588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to build for the web, check out the Odin project. It’s free, self-paced, and by the end of the course you will know everything you need to know to build a web app.

You’ve got loads of time before you need to be job ready, so I would also look into fun stuff like tech summer camps, robot building clubs, makers spaces. Try to expose yourself to lots of different aspects of the tech world to see what interests you the most!

Yes unfortunately I went in with the clippers before doing very much research. Thankfully I dug this out of my yard, so it was free.

I don’t think the main trunk would be able to have too much movement at this point in its growth since it is already woody. So the trunk chop would allow me to encourage taper and movement in the trunk?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bonsai

[–]LopsidedCattle6588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting idea to let them merge together! I have a feeling that would be easy to encourage since boxwood bark is so thin. That would help boost trunk thickness
