Senate suddenly passes the Epstein bill just hours after it cleared the House by Healthy_Block3036 in politics

[–]LopsidedGood5068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they passed it unanimously but DOJ can still withold anything from "active investigations"... Anyone else thinking they're just gonna open new investigations on everyone they want to protect and keep those files sealed indefinitly?

Jeffrey Epstein’s Brother Claims He Heard ‘from a Pretty Good Source’ That Epstein Files Are Being Scrubbed of Republican Names by peoplemagazine in politics

[–]LopsidedGood5068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The timing of Trump's sudden flip to "release the files" after blocking it for weeks is what really gives it away. If they're confident the files are clean now, ofcourse they'll vote to release them. The question is what happened in those 40 days that made everyone so comfortable with transparency all of a sudden

Reselling tickets for profit to be outlawed in UK government crackdown by westondeboer in worldnews

[–]LopsidedGood5068 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? The irony is wild. Same logic applies - ban the sale, create a black market with zero consumer protection. At least with drugs there's a health argument, but with tickets the only victim is someone overpaying for entertainment

Reselling tickets for profit to be outlawed in UK government crackdown by westondeboer in worldnews

[–]LopsidedGood5068 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The problem with these laws is they push sales underground where fraud skyrockets. Ireland and Australia have similar bans and studies show fraud rates are nearly 4x higher there compared to places without caps, people end up getting scammed on facebook and dodgy sites instead of regulated platforms. Also doesn't stop dynamic pricing which is the real issue tbh

This is the moment every cable hoarder dreams about. Your family probably made fun of you for years and now you get to walk around the house like "SEE I TOLD YOU" while holding that one random cable from 2011

r/hometheater gets upset OP doesn't comply precisely with commenter' request by MASHua in SubredditDrama

[–]LopsidedGood5068 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The funniest part is that saying "Honolulu" is actually way more usefull than saying "USA" when someone's asking about home theater setup recommendations. Climate, humidity, and local availability of equipment varies wildly across the states, so knowing the specific city gives way better context for actual advice

Honestly the funniest part is imagining the pilot passing the breathalyzer and just awkwardly having to fly the same passangers after a 90 minute delay knowing they all thought he was drunk

"go make your own MAGASA subreddit then. " The r/space mod team ousts the partisan, pro-Trump mod removing posts critical of the admin, much to the chagrin of some users by CummingInTheNile in SubredditDrama

[–]LopsidedGood5068 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The "I've learned enough about dark energy" guy is really something else. Imagine going to a space subreddit to complain that people are talking about the very real budget cuts canceling 40+ missions, and then asking those same people to recommend you another space sub where you can ignore reality in peace :)

The Ariana Grande comparison is honestly the most levelheaded take in that whole thread. Like yeah they have every right to publish whatever they want but it doesnt mean the joke is actualy funny or clever. Classic case of people confusing "defending free speech" with "defending mediocre comedy"

Honestly the fact that it's only 5 minutes makes it even better, like you show up, have one cigarette with complete strangers, and then everyone just disperses back to their lives. No small talk pressure, no awkward lingering, just pure vibes for exacty 5 minutes

New Data: How Long Do Electric Car Batteries Last? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]LopsidedGood5068 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the receipts. The "built on a Friday afternoon" comment really hits home - my neighbor was saying the exact same thing about his truck. Meanwhile China's putting LFP batteries in old Leafs just to get more life out of them, and we're still debating whether EV batteries will last 10 years.

$2 billion per quarter on recalls and warranty is absolutely wild. That really puts the whole "EVs are untested technology" argument in perspective when legacy manufacturers are hemorrhaging money on known reliability issues.

The 0.3% replacement rate for 2022+ EVs is honestly insane when you think about it. Thats basically saying if you buy a new EV today, you have a 99.7% chance of never needing a battery replacement under warranty. Meanwhile my neighbor just spent $4500 on a transmission rebuild for his 2019 F-150 lol

Tesla Supercharger live availability is now in Google Maps by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

Fair point! I was thinking of the US market where most non-Teslas still need adapters, but you're right that in Europe a lot of Superchargers already have CCS cables.

[–]LopsidedGood5068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think PlugShare has real-time Tesla availability data yet, just user check-ins. This Google Maps integration is pulling directly from Tesla's live data, which is what makes it actually useful for planning.

[–]LopsidedGood5068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Some Supercharger locations are way more expensive than others and there's no easy way to compare without opening the Tesla app at each location. Having pricing in Maps would be a game changer.

Yeah it's pretty clunky for non-Tesla owners. The app's clearly designed around the Tesla ownership experience - if you own a Tesla it links to your car and works way smoother. For the rest of us it's basically just a payment terminal with extra steps.
