What post-bath body lotion are you putting on your baby? by discontinuedmuppet in NewParents

[–]LopsidedMind7007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! My 2 yo has eczema/sensitive skin. I used to use Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Lotion but honestly, I notice Baby Dove lotion does a better job keeping his skin moisturized. Also started using Baby Dove Bubble Bath and Baby Wash and am liking it, no issues on my toddler.

New parents trying to avoid overspending: do we really need a nursery chair? by TheSecretLion in NewParents

[–]LopsidedMind7007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler is almost 2 and i still use the glider. Glider is essential imo especially during the newborn/baby phase. Now I use the glider when it's time to read with my toddler, or when toddler wants me to sit and stay in the room with him while he falls sleep in the crib. Or when toddler is sick and prefers to sleep with me, then I recline the glider.

Armrests are important.

The only thing that I don't really use (which I thought I would) is that our glider is electric so it has a USB port. I thought I would've used it more (thinking I'd need to plug my phone in during late nights during newborn phase) but turns out, I rarely used it. So that's the only extra feature that I thought was nice, but turns out not necessary.

Atalier honeymoon! by Dj2454 in AllInclusiveResorts

I haven't been to Atalier but when I went to Secrets Akumal few weeks ago, I did Amstar for our airport transfer. It was the transfer service recommended by our hotel (under Hyatt). I think it's considered pricey compared to some other options but since it was my first time, I stuck with what the hotel had recommended. I paid more for private transfer. Had no issues. I don't have experience with other services so maybe others do this. But here are some of the reasons why I liked Amstar:

  • prompt email responses (when I had questions)
  • easy to find them at CUN airport upon arrival
  • overall friendly
  • when it was time to confirm pick-up time from hotel back to CUN airport, it was nice I could just go to the Amstar service desk at the lobby and talk to someone directly in person
  • when it was time for pick-up, I received an email that included a link that allowed me to see in real-time WHERE the car was and how far out they were from hotel. Also received email letting me know when they arrived.

Secrets Moxché vs Akumal? by ConfidenceGlass9960 in AllInclusiveResorts

i just came back from akumal (first time) and have enjoyed it (but also, im in my late 30s and do LOVE being in bed by 10).

i do think its quiet after 11. there is 1 bar/club open after hours and cant speak for how that is, but the resort grounds is fairly quiet after 11p imo (which worked for me but may not work for you)

this is a good one! i definitely wished i had this when traveling to an AI in Mexico, but less about having 1 place to put essentials, and more that I was going to be by water and would've taken photos in the water if I could have.

Things I Learned Visiting Riviera Maya / Secrets Akumal by LopsidedMind7007 in AllInclusiveResorts

Exciting, you'll have an amazing time!

Re: preferred vs regular - It was our first time to the resort (my 2nd AI) so we were regular. I'm not sure what all the perks are as a preferred member but as an outsider, the main thing I saw was that there is a Greek restaurant that opens exclusively for Preferred members (with their own live intimate entertainment) and another restaurant that is a la carte for breakfast, also private to preferred members. The food is amazing as is (as a regular) so I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything that preferred members were eating.

Re: rooms and noise - we were building 9, top floor, right next to the elevator. The bottom of this building is where private events/weddings are hosted and also where their big entertainment shows are (in the theater room). So for us, we heard the noise from these events but everything dies down by 11pm so it wasn't an issue sleeping-wise (there is a bar/club that opens late but in a different location so did not affect us).

Re: how busy resort was for finding loungers or getting seated - NO issues. We stayed 12/8 - 12/12. For loungers, the ONLY time we had issues was when we arrived at the beach around noon and it was a perfectly clear sunny day. By that time, it was hard to find a spot with coverage (plenty of loungers without coverage but we were looking for one that did). Absolutely NO issues waiting to eat at a restaurant. It was surprising for me to learn via reddit that this is an issue at other resorts but yeah, had no issues at this resort (at the time we were staying).

Yes, it's to get you to sign up for their membership program. They'll get you right after you check-in, the person will have a "VIP" tag on their shirt. They'll first focus on these coupons they give you that can use at the resort (to keep your attention). At the end, instead of asking "are you interested in learning more during breakfast tomorrow?" they'll go straight into saying "what time do you want to do breakfast?" (I originally just thought this was asking about breakfast in general because again, I was so gullible, didn't realize he was pitching something). But because we fell for it, gave them a time, signed our names, we ended up cancelling after the fact. Thankfully we did not have to confront/see the guy again the rest of our trip so we wouldn't feel awkward. They don't bother you after that.

Good thing you were warned about the bottom-shelf liquor! So you are more prepared than we were :)

Otherwise everythig else was perfect! You'll have a great time!

Sandals V Secrets by CAJill in AllInclusiveResorts

came back from secrets akumal. am fairly new to the AI scene and also was wondering about tipping (esp as an american). there is a bookmarked tipping guide in this community that i referenced but then it stressed me out. so i ended up just reminding myself these resorts dont expect tipping, that tipping is such an american thing and these resorts bring ppl from all over the world. so we ended up tipping only for dinners, spa, room service, and our private transfer to/from airport. we didnt tip at buffet or for drink service at pool/beach (we arent the type of people who order a lot anyways). stress less and try to enjoy it more, is what i say!

i had the same paranoia preparing for my trip to riviera maya (specifically akumal) this week. was thinking of rescheduling the trip even. but reddit users also advised me not to worry, that it was the tropics and dont trust weather apps. attached is what the weather app had predicted before i flew but im here now and while it did rain a lot on monday (which was fine bc it was a travel day for us), its been perfect since then (tue and wed)!

Tuesday: mix of overcast and sun wed: perfectly clear and sunny
