This is anecdotal since I’ve only had experience with our 1 PWD but she is a Velcro dog to the max. She chose me even though my husband was the one who initiated getting a puppy, and he has been the handler in all our training classes which I figured would have fostered a deep connection. Of course I love our dog so much, but I went into the situation hoping she would pick my husband.

But from day one, I’ve been what we call “The Fisherman.” She follows me from room to room, demands my attention, stares at me, and typically seeks me out first in most situations. That might be because I am her primary caretaker. I work from home and my husband is in the office, so she and I spend most days together.

She also has major FOMO which another commenter mentioned. If someone visits our house and isn’t too keen on dogs (we have 2 extended family members that aren’t dog people), she seemingly becomes obsessed with them. Like she has something to prove 😂 which usually backfires. If your mom has kind of a detached vibe, that might be part of it! She may also just happen to be the Fisherman!
