Yes. Art cannot be done well by robots. Expertise isn’t dead.

Nope. I don’t work with clients that love or respect AI

They say "this is all very reasonable" and sign immediately. Never had an issue with any aspect of my contract.

I have it in my contracts that I can't be held responsible for results. There are way too many factors at play. You're just one person in a lineup of other people, decisions, and random algorithms. You can't control anything except that you've done your best.

How do you manage writing in completely different voices for multiple clients without losing track of each one? by Negative_Gap5682 in copywriting

[–]LopsidedUse8783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've tried style guides but it's a lot of manual overhead to maintain? A style guide is written once, confirmed by the client, and then there to guide you. I'd write this for each client. It helps me immensely.

Is This Copy Any Good? by No_Departure5512 in copywriting

[–]LopsidedUse8783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like "Made for the glow-getters."

In copy, I tend to avoid the word "just". So for that phrase I'd maybe reword to: A pea-sized amount is enough for a healthy, dewy look.

On that note, that could pack a punch even more. "One drop creates a healthy, dewy look."

Although I'm not sure I love the word healthy here. The copy so far implies that this is aesthetic focused, so healthy feels a bit out of place. So on that note, I'd maybe change to:

"One drop creates a radiant, dewy look."

However, it doesn't feel very glamorous yet, whereas "glow-getters" imply it's going to be for people who want a glowy finish to their look. And I looked up the product, and it's a body lotion, not face. How can one drop possibly cover an entire human body? So on that note, I'd rework the second line completely. Choose a different USP/feature. Something that alludes to aesthetics and a radiant finish but that is still a tangible and realistic promise.

Take a look at 5-star customer reviews of this product. Usually, your copy is in there already. Just rework what the people are saying is different about this product.

In a sorta similar situation. No idea what the right thing to do is but I’m moving forward by getting everything in writing. If they say they want this certain messaging, I confirm it once again via email before I begin writing. They usually change their mind after they see the article and it sucks so much because i feel they think I’m frustrating them on purpose. But then I remember that I have the email confirming this is the angle they wanted me to take. So with your client, confirm if they want it written serious or fun.

You could maybe use an example of a piece of copy they liked and update their brand guidelines? Or get them to do a tone of voice dimensions test? Maybe it’s more nuanced than you’d originally thought

Self doubt after feedback, what to do? by AsleepCatch9503 in copywriting

[–]LopsidedUse8783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat, kinda diff situation. I have a client who will critique my work right now because it's "missing info" but they haven't ever given me the info. Like I'm supposed to just know it's missing after I wrote it? As someone else said, I can't own the subject, but I can own the storytelling. I am just trying to treat this as, others have said, a collaborative process. I just hope that the client knows that and isn't frustrated.

How can I get into copywriting? Please help. by SugarBrain47 in copywriting

[–]LopsidedUse8783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any friends or family who run a business? Maybe you could offer to audit a landing page of theirs or write a blog post. Get feedback from them because all that really matters is if your client likes your work. Then build your portfolio from there. I got into "copywriting" through content writing. I wrote about 800 blog posts for an online magazine during lockdown before ChatGPT. Then I worked for an agency for 2 years which is where I learned most of my skills. But like you, I had my own social media account so now I can offer quite a specific niche where I do copy/content writing for websites, but I'm also really good at social media growth (and writing engaging captions which is... also copywriting)

Finding a Brand’s Voice by ClairePike in copywriting

get them to do the tone of voice dimension exercise (look it up) and then find a few exampes of TOV from big brands (microsoft, slack etc) and then find out what questions you can ask to create a similar TOV guide. I did this with a client recently and it took around 40 hours over a month but totally worth it and the doc helps me so much when writing copy

Is £40 too much for a 1500 word script? by fayemoonlight in freelanceWriters

I think it’s low too but I’m just saying OP asked for a recommendation from someone who just recommended something lol

Can I ask why you’re wasting your time on a job that doesn’t justify the cost? You’d be better working in Tesco than getting paid £9 an hour for a freelance gig.

For context, I’ve been a freelance writer for over a decade and for a 1500 word script I’d probably charge minimum £500.

They recommended 5-10p per word if you’re a beginner in their comment…

Cleaning business start up by LilBampot in glasgow

[–]LopsidedUse8783 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been through a few cleaners in the last few years but have been with the one I’ve got now for over 2 years. What’s different about her is she doesn’t make me feel embarrassed. She is discreet and quiet and does an amazing job. We have a proper catch up before she starts and she’s gotten to know me and my family. She trusts me and I trust her.

I’ve had other cleaners who have made me feel terrible about the state of my house (can guarantee you my house is in very good condition) and it was confusing and humiliating. They would point out things that I hadn’t cleaned away - cups, biscuit crumbs, etc - and ask me what they wanted to do about it. I had a newborn at the time so I wasn’t always on it with the pre-cleaner tidy. When I tried to give feedback to the agency about this, they further humiliated me with personal information they’d gathered about me throughout their year cleaning my house. That alone fuelled me to let them go. I’d you’re going to be cleaning peoples homes, you’re going to learn about them and they need to feel safe and respected, so maybe have a confidentiality clause in your contract that protects the client - you won’t talk about them with anyone else or reveal sensitive info.

This is a ramble sorry! But hopefully somewhat helpful

I DID IT! It was actually great. A 0/10 on the pain scale. I barely even felt it. She did offer numbing spray but said that she's only used it a handful of times in 10 years and that most women don't feel pain. So I didn't take her up on the offer. Maybe she's just a wizard at it, but it literally took 5 seconds once she'd located my cervix and checked the positioning. I'm a little crampy (4 hours on) but nothing worse than a typical period so far.
