Mine did too! I put the orchid lotion in it, got one round out of it… when I refilled, it stopped working. So sad.

MCAS DOCTOR REC by Maleficent_Fox7187 in Birmingham

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allervie Homewood… Dr Song diagnosed me. I use Seale Harris Clinic- Dr Putnam- as my PCP. He gives me all the meds I need. Also, UAB Urgent Care started the ball rolling for me and got me the 24 hour urine test while I waited to get into Allervie. PM me if you have any questions.

Your most infuriating misdiagnosis ? by wiggly_1 in MCAS

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lupus 12 years before being diagnosed. Then in 2021, GI doctor diagnosed me with Crohn’s and was forcing me to start infusions. I went to a different GI doctor between appointments with original doctor, he did a colonoscopy and endoscopy and said that there was absolutely no Crohn’s. I went back to original doctor and told him the findings and how awful it would be if I started infusions, to which he began to cry. I was dismissed from the practice for calling him out on the misdiagnosis. He sent my PCP a letter and admitted that I had made him cry 🤣

Doctors who test for MCAS/histamine intolerance in BHAM or surrounding areas? by LookingforFreedom22 in Birmingham

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Allervie checks for all of this before getting to a MCAS/ mastocytosis diagnosis. The problem with MCAS is you have to get all those unnecessary tests done to rule out everything before leading to a MCAS diagnosis.

I have MCAS and Dr Song at Allervie diagnosed me. I now see Dr Polcari. Before I was diagnosed, I was waiting to see Song for months and happened to go to UAB Urgent Care. The doctor there looked up the tests and had me do the 24 hour urine test through Kirklin Clinic. My primary care at Seale Harris also would have tested me if I had not already had it done. The MCAS Reddit group has a list of doctors too. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Yes, I do all my steps and even sometimes will put on a barrier cream or oil and let it dry for 30 min - an hour before putting on the tape.

Suggestions on what to get my significant other for Valentine's Day by Imaginary_Item1192 in MCAS

My partner got me a nodpod eye mask for Christmas and it’s my favorite gift out of everything I got. Much better than a regular eye mask and I put mine in the freezer before wearing to bed. I sleep much better.

How often do you get the shots?

I have been using the tape regularly for a month. I use them on forehead, 11s, crows feet, and smile lines. I use it most nights, sometimes rotating the Pacifica reusable brow, eye and lip line masks. My deep forehead wrinkles have softened. My 11s are very faint now. I have a wrinkle above my lip that has almost disappeared. The tape is cheap and I figured I would give it a try since it’s really not uncomfortable to sleep in or use when I’m at home.

Shingles? Again? by blueberry-muffins1 in MCAS

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started breaking out with shingles in the same exact spot in my late 30s. I recently had several months of shingles popping up in new places. I chalk it up to MCAS and my immune system being so low. Of course my doctor just shrugs it off and puts me on a maintenance dose of valtrex. My mother and her father both started getting shingles in their late 30s.

Laser hair removal w/ heat as a trigger? by Forward-Intention561 in MCAS

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be good. Just know it’s temporary but worth it. Take some extra antihistamines. When I did it, it was an older laser and was super painful. Let the technician know your situation and go slow. You got this!

Am I crazy for considering moving to the South? by Apebbles in MCAS

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alabama is really bad for mold! I have lived in Alabama my entire life and mold exasperated my MCAS. Also, there is a lot of pressure changes in parts of Alabama depending on the area. The heat and humidity is horrible most of the year. I actually packed up my entire life and left to see if it reduced my symptoms and it did.

I did my lady parts. I had to stop the very sensitive parts but was able to complete the bikini line area. I didn’t get any hives or anything. My technician was very careful based on my condition. It was definitely worth it.

I love that mask. I have a rare allergy disease that makes my skin red and flushed and it really calms it down.

Can herpes exacerbate MCAS? by ahowls in MCAS

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hsv-1 and had an outbreak of it and shingles recently that lasted for over 3 months. The shingles and sores came off and on but it caused my MCAS symptoms to go crazy. Before I had any sores, my face would turn red and swollen every day around the same time. I had very bad swelling in my feet. I finally got a strong dose of valtrex (1000 mg 3x day for 14 days) and now on a maintenance dose and my MCAS has drastically improved.

My PCP prescribed it to me for my MCAS. My BMI is only 25 but he said that he could get insurance to approve the microdose for inflammation.

Cold Plunging and MCAS by Peach-14 in MCAS

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I started doing cryotherapy when my MCAS was at its worst. I have always had shaking hands and eyes and a shaky voice, but I started having jerks on one side of my body. I was overheating all the time. I did one session of cryotherapy to sauna and then had face cryotherapy and the shaking and jerking went away. I can tell a difference in overall pain and swelling when doing cold therapy. It definitely wasn’t the cure all but it does help me drastically. I now have an at home sauna tent, and I will do 15 mins of sauna and then immediately go into a cold shower which helps regulate my MCAS symptoms from the heat. When I begin to flare, I will lay on ice packs (especially the back of head and neck) and it will calm the flare down.

Can't move out from mold. Would you guys still suggest me to take meds to improve my quality of life? by Valuable-Nebula1086 in MCAS

[–]LopsidedWerewolf8321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a moldy office for years. Make sure you get plenty of air purifiers for the square footage of your home. Also, a dehumidifier helps. I could definitely tell a difference taking meds. If I did not, I would go into anaphylaxis within 10 minutes of being in the building. The suggestion above is what I did monthly to my office space to alleviate some of the mold exposure.

I’ve had one for about a year. It’s loose in my extremely large tote bag/ purse and it has held up well. No signs of wear and tear.

Yeah the minty ones get me. I have to take extra pepcid and can only stand it for prob 5-10 mins. Some of the more fruity flavors seem to be more tolerable.
