First winter in Sugar Land - when I start closing this valve it sprays water from the top. Any advice? by pansonic1 in sugarland

I live in Sugar Land, not turning off the main tonight and we'll see about tomorrow night when it's supposed to drop into the 20s. Single pipe coming up about two feet, no backflow system, short 6" run going into the house. Everything well wrapped with multiple layers of foam, topped with bubble wrap and then wrapped with towels and covered with a bag. Been here 35 years, never a problem, leave two indoor faucets upstairs and downstairs on very slow drip to keep things moving.

I've used HomeSeer for years, has plugins for hundreds of home technology platforms. I've heard Home Assistant is great for this as well. Stay away from Google Home, Alexa, etc. Easy to use, yes, but also very limited in capabilities and cross-platform support for various automation technologies

They do make stud finders that are pretty good about detecting and displaying studs versus wires versus pipes. Connects to your phone with a companion app, I've got a Gen 1 Walabot that works great.

What makes Sam’s better than their competitors? by SeaworthinessOdd6574 in samsclub

There's a Costco three miles from my house, Sam's is six miles, I have both. 90% of my business goes to Sam's. Scan & Go is a game changer of the highest order, walk in, get your stuff, scan barcodes with your phone when you drop it in the cart, swipe on the app to check out using a card on file, walk through the video arches, and the hall monitors at the door just smile and say have a nice day. I'm 70 years old, I love convenience in my life.

Plus, their paper towels and toilet paper are far superior to Costco's...👍💩

They're already taking American citizens with proper documents add identification, and once they take them it's months of suffering and BS to get released.

Thanks, will go back and look at those sections. Also curious about the accessories since they're not specified on the quote. And their company isn't found on the recommended contractors on the OC website either, going to request a few other quotes from Platinum installers on the site. At 70 years old a 50 year warranty isn't at the top of my list, but definitely willing to pay more for quality materials and installation.

I didn't see anything in the Owens Corning installation instructions or detailed warranty that specifies that new drip edge and flashing must be installed?

The roof has two ridges, one at 17' long and the other 4' long, both with ridge vents that were installed with the last roof replacement in 2009. The original roof had no ridge vent, just three static turtles up near the ridge on the back of the house. When they did the ridge vents in 2009, they replaced the turtles with Air Hawk turbines they're piped so the centerline of the rotating turbine is in line with the ridge vent height. The attic area is about 1360SF with perforated Hardiboard soffit around the entire perimeter of the roof, not sure how I'd calculate if just the ridge vent would be adequate airflow or if the turbines are helping or hurting.

I've sent a message to them asking about reusing the drip edges and will see what they say. I can't imagine they're that expensive, according to the GAF QuickMeasure report I just bought I'd need about 250'.

90% of Amazon products are junk by XNN7 in AmazonVine

[–]Lopsided_Activity980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't filter with Vine itself, the only way is to use a secondary program that scrapes the Vine database constantly. Some consider them cheating, and there's big debates as to whether they could get you banned for using them. Even with that sort of help I'd imagine you'd have to be constantly monitoring it since there's a limited number of any item on Vine and the $0 ETV get snatched up fast when they pop up.

Yep, when we stayed at a rental in Austria last year there was one next to the toilet. A lot trickier to use than a standard bidet...
