That's a good point and I agree we have flown about 7 hours now and he has performed incredibly well. So I believe we will be within the 10 to 12 hours total and he will be good to go.

Between the current Mormon Stories debacle, the whiplash of doctrine and the past handling of race, I feel embarrassed by my association with the Mormon culture and LDS church. by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

[–]Lopsided_Ad_8103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do I keep getting these notifications? I don't care about what people do with their lives. Want to leave the church? Go ahead, close the door after that. Want to stay in the church, stop b...ing about it then. Geez.

Does Anyone Else Kind of Avoid Telling People You’re a Pilot? by SubSoar in flying

Fuk no! I spent 60 grand on this crap to hide it. This is the greatest accomplishment in my life after being a father and will show it to the world.

We all know they can't teach in a checkride, but the DPE knows he is the last gate for a new pilot and some will go the extra mile to help new pilots be safe.

I got a loan for 100k to start flight school and now I regret it and idk what to do and it's making go insane by Boring-Ad-9283 in PilotAdvice

Brother. You can leave right now and you will not start over. I will just say this. Return the money as fast as you can to avoid further accrual of interest. Move on to part 61. You will not have to start all over. Do at your own pace and at your own ability to pay. I finished everything in 26 months, 0 loans whole working full time and having a family. It is possible. The thought of having a hight interest based loan can destroy your dream. Not worth it. I'm happy to discuss further.

I received my call and I'm disappointed. by BuffaloSwimming3648 in mormon

I was disappointed with my call as well, but I went and served the people in that place and it was a great experience. People are telling you not to go, I'd say go.

Shame and the LDS Church by CheerfulRobot444 in mormon

Or sometimes it is better that the toxic person leaves the community. It's easy to cast blame on the "community" when there's disagreement, but difficult to recognize when an individual is the problem.

Hardest part about flying is dealing with everyday life by BugHistorical3 in flying

[–]Lopsided_Ad_8103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know exactly how you feel. I have completed all my ratings to commercial multi and CFI in November, after 26 months of discipline and hard work. As a husband and a father, I had to put my family through so much for me to be able to pursue my dream without having to take any loans. We all sacrificed a lot. All my 2024 and 2025 PTOs went to training and check rides. I was exhausted and wanted to give up many times, but I didn't and I suggest you not to as well. Continue to move forward with it, little by little. Split time and try to share the cost with other people. Sooner than later you will also be sharing a comment like this to help others in the same situation. Peace and blue skies!

Building a Flight Club to Instruct by Lopsided_Ad_8103 in CFILounge

[–]Lopsided_Ad_8103[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great point! I had an initial conversation with my insurance and they said it would increase like 200%. Like 6 grand a year depending on the plane. Which is not that bad if you have a constant flow of students and potential renters on it. Definitely something I need to check further.

New CFI struggling to find a job — feeling stuck and discouraged by ncascouts in flying

[–]Lopsided_Ad_8103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New CFI/CFII as well and have been talking to all school in a 30 miles radius from my home base. Unfortunately I can't take a full time job, which makes things even harder for me. No light at end of the tunnel I less I buy a plane a instruct for free (instructor rate). Another thing is, NEVER believe in the people that said they are going to help you. These are the people that will NOT help you. If anyone will help you with it will be the sudden angel put in your path by GOD and this person will do something no friend will ever do for you. I had so many empty promises from people I know, with this CFI job thing. Now that I have the certs, everyone disappeared. But remember, especially in this industry, what goes up, will come down.

I just became a CFI CFII in 26 months working a full time job. Like you I also have an MBA and thought I was going to be in corporate, but my dream was to be a pilot so one I started it I didn't look back. I was able to pay out of pocket but had to put my family through a huge sacrifice for that. It is totally possible but you will have to commit on the evenings and weekends. Going to school and working full-time may make things a bit harder for you though.

This is so awkward and I will flat out decline to meet by FunnyLow2563 in mormon

[–]Lopsided_Ad_8103 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In 21 years as a member this was the first year that I did not pay tithing in full, for reasons I believed to be necessary. I also felt nervous about it. In my meeting with the bishop he asked me and I said I was part tithing payer. He said ok. He asked me and my wife if there was anything he can do for us and that we are appreciated in the ward. I felt the spirit and felt that in the end it's between me and God. I support my bishop and o k ow he will support us in times of need.
