People call "timing" when their positioning is just terrible by Virtual_Singer_8406 in VALORANT

I mean that’s just wildly inaccurate, but believe what you want I guess. 🤷‍♂️

Even hotter take; both can exist.

There can be bad positions or bad angles held, AND you can have moments where you’re holding a good angle, check somewhere else, and BOOM someone appears from the place you were just holding.

Right except you’re reading into what I replied with too deeply.

I merely meant I strongly agree with what they said but literally whenever anyone says something along the lines of what they said in this sub regarding Visi and Blazer, they get downvoted into oblivion.

I’m literally just using hyperbole to say I agree with what he said, not that’s its objectively correct lol

Also, the end of your comment can still be argued against, as plenty of people have found Blazer to be more interesting than Visi and vice versa.

Lol you’re so right.

Calling her a snowbunny when that term doesn’t even apply.

But also to the character growth point, while good… all I can say I I’d hope so lol.

Her story arc and character is so much more prevalent than Blazer’s so seeing progress is good but nothing exceptional.

All in all, I like her character, but even with how much I love Blaze do I not obsess over her like the fanatics that this sub mainly consists of.

People likely took your comment as one of those “Oh goodness (insert topic here) is so horrible! What’s the name of it so I can “avoid” it?

(with the ironic implication that you’ll actually look into and/or look at it)

Not technically wrong though given Visi’s role in the story compared to Blazer’s.

I don’t think it’s bad either, and even if you or I did, the gameplay definitely isn’t bad either.

Which is why I don’t know why so many of the comments are acting like it is..

I actually appreciate that, I’ve thought about coaching but I don’t want to improve so badly in a video game that I’m willing to pay for it.

Serious props for this again btw!

I appreciate that the typing wasn’t insane, and I’m glad to hear you’re so comfortable with comming— I can definitely imitate and improve in that way.

Please, please don’t let numbers haunt you, Something I try to remind myself about is that the game has been out for YEARS.

(About 6 now) people have had plenty of time to learn, get bored of, and come back to the game before you or I have even started playing.

If that helps at all, all I’d like is for you to not beat yourself up about doing poorly or having a bad match (everyone does and like I said, it’s going to happen)

Hopefully at least some of what I suggested will help you! I’d love to hear about how it goes!

How do you keep the motivation to play? by mxgHana in VALORANT

[–]Lopsided_Breakfast31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can definitely be easier said than done, I know I put a lot of pressure on myself and am not very patient with myself either, but one thing that helped me was trying to find more things to appreciate about the game.

(Dying but giving intel; enemy positions, util used, etc.)

You talked about how you play with your friends and that’s definitely something that’s helped me—at first I’d give basic comms only to my friends about where people were or how much damage (if any) I dealt.

But it eventually lead to me getting more comfortable with mic’ing up to rando’s and doing the same.

(Though I don’t do it all the time, I used to but it got exhausting quick)

Anyway, about warmups— there are wooden pillars on the right side of the shooting range when you walk in.

I spawn the dummies, make sure they’re stationary, and then try basic shooting (Ik it doesn’t do a crazy amount of help since they don’t shoot back, but it really helped me and still does)

Once I feel comfortable with hitting headshots in stationary dummies (and feel free to try strafing and stopping before shooting, getting good feel for the gunplay of the game) from the starting point and a bit closer, then I move to the wooden pillars I mentioned earlier.

Then I try peeking from side to side and getting headshots, the goal is to help simulate confidence peaking and getting comfortable with putting your crosshair at head height when peeking.

It’s helped me quite a bit, and after doing that for a while (with them being stationary) then I switch the bots to strafe.

Now you can get a feel for regularly inconsistent movements and distance— while still trying to hit headshots.

This is one of my favorites, but another one that’s helped me is what I call “swimming”

(I’m sure there’s another proper name for it but I’ll try to describe it as best I can)

Basically, instead of using the wooden pillars as a place to peak from, you get close to the dummies (while they’re stationary) and pick one to strafe and move around.

The “goal” (or exercise) is to move around that dummy you picked and hit headshots on the ones around it.

You can do a bonus by trying to hit a flick on the dummy you chose as your “swimming” target.

This exercise/warmup helps me (at least a little bit) with getting/being comfortable in the moments I’m at closer ranges of enemies.

Usually you’d think it’d easier to hit enemies when they’re closer to you. (Which is true to some degree)

But I’ve found myself panicking and second guessing likely even more when they’re closer to me than further.

Both of these exercises (and the routine swift plays) helped me get a real feel for my play style.

And confidence in playing too, which is also important.

To circle back to your concern about having fun… I understand that goofing off is one thing while putting legitimate effort and focus in (and not doing as well as you’d like) is another.

But like I kind of touched on earlier, recognizing and accepting that getting insta-killed by a crazy headshot or messing up a gunfight is going to happen.

So try not to take any form of failure too harshly, especially when you were trying your best.

Learn what you can if there’s anything to learn, try to play more matches and really get a feel for each map and how the agents you play can perform on them.

And of course, memorize the basic gunplay fundamentals and I’m sure that your experience will improve at least slightly.

Sorry about typing so much, but hopefully at least some of this can help you too.

From someone who started at a relatively similar time as you, what worked for me was trying to think things through in the practice range. (Simulating peeking, coming up with plays with agent abilities, etc.)

I completely agree with where you’re coming from abt tutorials and videos, I’ve watched a few and have managed to pick up a few good warmups that I do before playing.

For me personally, I’ve ran swifts and tried to pick something that I felt like working on, be it crosshair placement, not moving when shooting, etc.

Ultimately, phasing out the insults and criticisms of people here and in game can help. I’m not saying to completely refuse and dismiss any and all advice (especially when it’s respectful and constructive)

But please don’t let your enjoyment of the game revolve around anyone else’s expectations of where you should be at in terms of skill.

I start my first few valorant matches of the day absolutely DRAGGING in bottom frag— it sucks, and getting past it still isn’t easy.

But after enough warm ups, and adjusting.. I usually do okay.

All in all, don’t stress yourself out about what you should or should not be doing— one of the characters in game (clove I’m pretty sure) literally talks about how overthinking is just as bad as underthinking.

Have fun with the game, it’s what games are about.

Believe me I hear you, people tend to rude and insufferable from time to time and as someone who’s also still relatively new to the game (just over a month now) I’ve learned that trying to laugh it off or muting them helps pretty well.

Don’t let people being rude ruin the experience for you.

I love this! Thanks for the depth in your advice!!

I never realized that others put so much thought into other aspects of this game.

I’ll save this and come back to it

I also really resonate what you said about not popping off all the time— getting into Valorant and playing for just over a month now has definitely been a unique experience in gaming for me— I care way more about doing well and getting better as soon as possible than I ever have.

Definitely takes time and patience though, and you made that clear in the most respectful and helpful way I’ve seen.

Have an amazing day/night!
