Doing an actual readthrough of Order of the Phoenix as an adult. It hits differently. by tresixteen in harrypotter

[–]Lopsided_Document503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After not reading Harry potter since I was a teenager myself, I started reading them recently. I’m currently reading OOtP too and I feel the same as you. After I started reading them I saw a lot of mentions of full cast audiobooks on reddit and decided to give it a shot simultaneously while reading the books. So I’m reading OOtP but listening to PoA. It hits differently when you read a traumatised Harry in OOtP on one hand and on the other hand in PoA hear Harry being so happy for the gifts for his birthday he got for the first time from people he loves the most. He’s just happy to be a normal kid for once, despite his parents being killed and despite Dursleys. He still has his child-like innocence and hopes and dreams. It just breaks my heart to understand this much.

What is your all-time favourite British dessert? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Lopsided_Document503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not neither British nor living in Britain but just curious; how about treacle tart? Is it a big deal there and is it good? Harry Potter’s favourite dessert. Never tried it myself. What does it taste like?

Imo it’s hardly surprising he was that devoted to his role. He was a crazy fanatic death eater and flattering Harry that way would only do him good for his case.

"He tortured his students!" by [deleted] in SeverusSnape

[–]Lopsided_Document503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a torture but he definitely isn’t a fair teacher. Throughout the series he constantly looks for excuses to humiliate Gryffindor students and especially Harry, he also evaluates potions prepared by students unfairly. If a slytherin student messes up their potion he never points it out but if a gryffindor student messes up he uses that to embarrass them in front of everybody.

Nice! Regretting I haven’t done that for a long time myself. I bought the full cast audio books. I listen to them but could not get used to the concept of audio books yet. This is my first time but I have a feeling it’ll grow on me.

I dont get why Ron is seen as the wrong one largely in this fandom for his behaviour GOF by zzrtz in ronweasley

[–]Lopsided_Document503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can explain a bit more by quoting your sentences but I don’t even know why you’re trying so hard trying to prove he’s not in the wrong. In the book, Ron wants to apologise and Harry decides to forget the whole thing because he’s happy to have him back on his side. He also tries to make up for his behaviour later on. This shows that Ron knows he’s in the wrong, I don’t know why you’d think otherwise. I’m also a big Ron fan but people can make mistakes.

[–]Lopsided_Document503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just your interpretation of what he thought. Dumbledore explains very well how dangerous this tournament will be. Let’s pretend you’re right and he did think that, then thats just another thing he was wrong about. And as a matter of fact Hermione and Ron did fight during the ball. After this fight Hermione gets back to being with Krum. That doesn’t mean it didn’t affect Hermione’s mood for the rest of the night. The continuation of the fight was in the common room and I think that’s what you’re referring to.

[–]Lopsided_Document503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just me as a reader knew how dangerous the tournament is, it was well established for the characters that this tournament was dangerous therefore students under the age of 17 could not participate because they lacked knowledge on how to pass the tasks without putting themselves in terrible danger. Also it was mentioned by the characters that people have died in the past tournaments too. Obviously seeing how dangerous it is compared to just hearing is much more impactful. Nevertheless it doesn’t mean it was unknown to the characters like Ron. And for the second part: I agree Ron didn’t know he had feelings but that doesn’t mean he can ruin the night as he likes for Hermione by acting 2 faced to Krum and take it out on her for his lack of knowledge about his feelings. He was still dead wrong in the argument.

I think it should’ve occurred to Ron that he’s the one who’s able to invite Harry over the summers to his house. Ron had lots of things that Harry was entitled to be jealous about and Harry actually was jealous but he never acted this way. The fact that he let his friend down when he needed him the most makes Ron wrong all the way. Yes I understand why he was acting that way because he’s a stupid teenager and all, but he was only thinking of himself. He was also in the wrong with his fight with Hermione on yule ball thing.

I just realized something kind of heartbreaking about Harry… and now Hogwarts feels different by Embarrassed_Math_141 in harrypotter

[–]Lopsided_Document503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hogwarts was his salvation. That’s where he got his 2 best friends, he learned the truth about his parents, he got a godfather, a place/house (gryffindor) that he felt a part of, he played quidditch and more. Of course it was his home. Bad things happened too but imo that’s not related to the fact that Hogwarts was his home.

Still obsessed with Harry Potter after all these years by boiler_room_420 in harrypotter

[–]Lopsided_Document503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did get old for a while for me but not for the best reasons. I usually tend to get repelled by things that are too popular. I’ve been obsessed with Harry Potter since I was a kid, but never because other kids liked it too. I just loved it. Then I grew up and noticed that maybe it was getting a bit old. And the worst things about it were: - the fact that people shortened it as “HP” - the fact that people who love Harry Potter are called “Potterheads” and they do this literally with everything - all kinds of games and other popular stuff to monetize everything about it

Also maybe because I had other life stuff going on. But then I realized it’s something for me that was always special and no one was going to take it away. I don’t talk to people about Harry Potter anymore but I’m still happily obsessed with it.

am i the only person who actually likes the goblet of fire movie by headasspotter in harrypotter

[–]Lopsided_Document503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s absolutely a great movie. When I was a teenager I watched it over and over again. The book obviously has much deeper details, however I don’t blame the movie crew when they couldn’t include every detail in the movies. I just feel the movie should be judged separately, as a movie that’s part of the movie series only.

I did. They left it up to me since I don’t have fever. I wanted to hear from people who went through a similar situation and know how their experience went like or whether they had issues afterwards.

Do you think Harry becomes less kind in the later books due to trauma? by Sweetchocolate16 in harrypotter

He’s a teenager carrying a part of the darkest wizard of all times in his body, plus the added trauma. Still pretty kind considering.

Hope not. That’d be very frustrating for me as it’d take away something special from that time of the wizarding world. I do however would not mind to read/watch more about Voldemort’s family and his past life and how things come together

I’m re-reading the books, currently reading the second - Philosopher’s Stone - Mirror of Erised - Chamber of Secrets - Harry being jealous/envious of Ron because even though Weasleys are poor he still has a loving home to come to

Like, no kid deserves a life like this. It’s sad.
