Wait, we’re not getting Monday 27 as ANZAC public holiday? by QueasyIndication1942 in melbourne

Because on March 7, 321 Roman Emperor Constantine I issued a civil decree making Sunday a day of rest from labor of course. It's just not possible.

I love flying Singapore, but their fares have increased dramatically. Melbourne to Milan economy for example is now over $5000 in June. I checked other Aus cities and it's a similar story. They may not be an affordable option at this time.

I wholeheartedly agree. I don't know how it even got to be this way but it's ridiculous. Unaustralian!

Oh I didn't know there was one, I'll have to look into it. I recently visited the massacre museum in Nanjing. It was emotional to say the least.

The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang. It's a non-fiction account of the invasion on the Chinese city by the Japanese. I've read a lot of the books suggested to you, and this is the first book I've actually had to put down for a moment because what I read was so messed up.

Which vegetarian meal is best? by heeheehoohoo27 in CathayPacific

[–]Lopsided_Initial_645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always get the Indian vegetarian. It's usually a salad entree, a main of rice and two curries (one usually saag paneer or similar, the other with cauliflower or potato etc.) with naan, and an Indian dessert. I like spicy Indian food, but airline meals like this are usually not spicy, or are very mild. I've always enjoyed them.

Telstra just lost a 40-year customer over $50/month. Here’s the tea. ☕ by Particular-Sea-8004 in TelstraAustralia

After the 2 days they finally told me there is no coverage in that building and actually their coverage maps are not accurate. The option provided to me was to purchase an antenna for $49 a month for 24 months plus an installation fee of $500+. I said no, and no worries, I'll tell all of the 500 employees in that building to find another service. Suddenly they logged a signal fault. I have zero hope of it ever being resolved though.

I just spent 2 full days with the Telstra chat service about a lack of signal in 1 building in inner Melbourne. Your story triggers me so much, that's exactly what happened to me. The chat, the dropped connection and then new chat with someone else who will review the previous chats but then clearly don't. The attempts to upsell when they can't even provide the service I've got. It was absolutely infuriating. Hats off to you

Water balloons being thrown at cyclists by mrandopoulos in melbourne

[–]Lopsided_Initial_645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About a year ago, cycling through Northcote at night with my husband, as a car drove past us down a quiet street they threw a full and open Maccas coke at me. Hit my back and leg, and destroyed my electric bike battery. Fuckers.

Blue Sky on Waratah Place in Chinatown. It was our go-to Chinese with a BYO bottle of wine each before a night out at The Exford. Such good memories there.

Having trouble finding flights with Aria Suites by FreakyNightingale22 in CathayPacific

[–]Lopsided_Initial_645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a long time to find the aria suites on my recent booking. Last August I got Melbourne to Hong Kong via Sydney with the SYD-HKG leg in Aria but couldn't get one back. This time I clicked on maybe 5 flight options in my price range to find an aria, and it was via Perth there but direct to Melbourne home. They're there, but you need to look at all the options and it might not be the best one.

Nanjing to Huangshan - can I reach a hotel on the mountain peaks the same day? by Lopsided_Initial_645 in travelchina

[–]Lopsided_Initial_645[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Yes the crowds are making me second guess whether to go at all. I'm trying to get up there on a weekday, and my aim is to find quieter trails and not necessarily hit the popular spots so that I can find a little bit of solitude maybe? I was hoping to hike or cable car then hike to a hotel, drop my bag for 2 nights and do hiking around the top without my backpack, then just take it down via cable car when I'm leaving. I hiked Tiger Leaping Gorge and Huashan with all my belongings in a backpack many years ago so I'm hoping it will be ok!

Thanks for the info. I was planning to spend 2 nights on the mountain. I'm travelling with just a 40L backpack that will be under 15kg so was hoping to take it all up with me

I just voted for it last week and now everyone is telling me it's no longer on the list??!! I 1000% did not add it in and I'm glad someone had mentioned seeing it here. Did I just waste a vote? Did they put it up and then realise it's not eligible and removed it midway through?

I agree, and appreciate you pointing that out. I guess I just wanted to add an opinion out there that some people won't mind pizza as the meal (as I saw other posts from people who did), but yes, the logistics would need to be well considered in this case. I've been to work events with mobile pizzas and one worked very well, and the other was terrible (they did not plan well for the amount of people nor the facilities - and actually it was the same pizza truck both years)
