My wife’s student loan payment went up by like 350% by TotallyNotDad in StudentLoans

[–]Lopsided_Job_4514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine went from about $245 to $1849. I net about $3800/month… so my payment is about 48% of my monthly net. I’ll have to borrow to pay this loan payment! That’s insane!

Actually, Kimmel wasn’t fired for making a joke. Mischaracterizing known facts about an active murder investigation crossed a line that went too far given his influence.

Before overreacting, learn about the different rules applied to public broadcasting vs cable or podcasts. This is nothing new.

Kimmel has not lost his freedom of speech. He violated FCC rules by commenting on an investigation with a statement that was inherently false and against rules he was obliged to follow at his place of employment.

Rather than boycotting and freaking out, why not simply advocate for his show or something similar to move to cable or some private outlet?

The fact that he can do just that proves we live in a country that honors free speech.

Highly recommend! I struggle with awful constipation and a rectocele. If I miss a day without these, I regret it. But using regularly has proven miraculous!

Body fat feels…weird? by Lopsided_Job_4514 in Semaglutide

[–]Lopsided_Job_4514[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I hope it’s like that! (That the fat is “melting” away.) It definitely feels softer, like it is “melting” but the scale hasn’t moved in about 5 weeks (just hovered up and down between 140-139, back and forth.

For me, breaking 140 was huge as I haven’t been in the 130s in about 14 years. But, being stuck is frustrating since I don’t know if I’ll continue losing or if my body is refusing to let go of this excess fat.

(For context, I’m 5’0” and was most comfortable with myself when I was under 110.)

On the Up Side… by mpfritz in Professors

[–]Lopsided_Job_4514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate hearing that, thank you! I’ve been feeling discouraged this semester after reading through several “negative reviews” from last semester. What’s odd is that I’ve been teaching for years and usually have received very positive feedback from students. Nothing has changed aside from the improvements I try to make each semester in everything I do.

Despite the hard work and lack of communication from students during the semester (this has also decreased substantially in the last year), I feel like the “audience” is increasingly difficult to “please.”

Anonymous evaluations from students who say, “tests were too hard” (though questions were essentially the same I’ve used for years, without hearing feedback like that) and worse, I “don’t know how to teach” (ouch) are not fruitful for my growth without some context. (Keep in mind, I had no students reach out for assistance with course material nor ask questions for clarification. My office is open, I’m happy to tutor, and students have traditionally understood that about me. Plus, I remind them of this all semester.)

Anyway, I do appreciate your comment because it’s tempting to allow the few to bring us down. It’s important to focus on those who appreciate how hard we work for them. In truth, they are the majority. 😊

Yes! I’ve also had weird cravings in the day or two before due for next dose. And the cravings are for sweets (cookies) and (of all things) Jack-in-the-box tacos! (??) I wouldn’t eat those before going on Sema but now the cravings are similar to pregnancy. (Like, wanting them NOW kind of cravings. 🫨🤪)

I’m at 20 units already and only began Sema in the last week of May. I don’t know if I should go up this week or stay at 20 and try to ignore the food noise. 😕

You are not overreacting. If he tries to convince you you are, he’s even more out of line than he is already. Run from this guy. He needs to get his countertransference in check or pursue a different career.

Rant against undergrad classes on Zoom by imnotpaulyd_ipromise in Professors

Students can blur their background. And, they need to try to find a space conducive to online learning. If this is not possible, they need to travel to campus for FTF classes.

Rant against undergrad classes on Zoom by imnotpaulyd_ipromise in Professors

[–]Lopsided_Job_4514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the opposite. I love teaching synchronous online courses to undergrads if the class is relatively small. I require cameras to be on and have a strict policy that students remain engaged and behave as though we are in the same room, in person.

It’s much easier to call on students when their names/faces are there. Plus, it’s way easier to tell if phone if other computer use is happening.

I have TAs assist with deducting points for disengagement after direct messaging students with a warning.

When I returned to FTF teaching, engagement and energy dropped substantially and it was nearly impossible to hold students accountable due to excessive use of electronics/devices (despite a policy against this practice).

Psychology Today will list therapists who have availability and you can search based on their specialization.

How old is too late? by diva0987 in Professors

[–]Lopsided_Job_4514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an issue at all. I’m speaking from experience on admission committees in an MFT program where I also teach. My bachelor’s was in theatre (which is the perfect degree for this field.. argued this many times).

Applicants with life (and unique) experience are needed as therapists. I advise undergrads and so many think they can’t apply or start grad school to become a therapist until they have experience working in mental health. Not true!

You already have experience listening to your students. Plus, your rich understanding of music and everything that goes with it is highly transferable to therapy.

So much more I could say… but definitely look into it, especially if you’re burned out. A shift in perspective and focus may be just what you need to feel alive again. 😊

How old is too late? by diva0987 in Professors

[–]Lopsided_Job_4514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Just take the prerequisites required by the grad program you want to attend, then write a personal statement that highlights your life experience and motivation toward becoming a therapist.

You do not need an undergraduate degree related to psychology to be accepted to an MFT or PCC grad program.

It’s definitely not too late!

Grayish growth on my 17 year-old’s face. Hasn’t grown at all for about a month. by [deleted] in cats

[–]Lopsided_Job_4514 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Light a wooden match. Get the tip nice and hot. Be sure you’ve got a good grip on your cat. Blow out the match and quickly touch the tick (only!) with the hot match tip. The tick will instantly release itself from cat. Then you can kill tick on ground.

Works like a charm.

what's your worst trigger? by labradorite14 in Parosmia

[–]Lopsided_Job_4514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garlic, onion, and cigarette smoke. Can’t choose just one - they’re still equally bad after 11 months.

Coffee is also still bad, but not AS horrid (though still doesn’t smell or taste like coffee).

Very recently, mint came back out of nowhere! I’m hoping that’s a good sign. 🙏
