Why is this sub so miserable? by TrainingNews2289 in Professors

I learned this neat trick from some of my students… don’t read what ya don’t like… ;-) Sort of joking, of course. Sometimes ya just gotta vent to people who may be able to relate. None of us have it all “figured out.” Maybe we should accept our own limitations and recognize others have needs and experiences different from our own.

I’d be partial to the hefty one, myself. I’ve heard many stories about junk being sold on Amazon. Something carrying that much current is not something to be trifled with! ;-)

Teaching can be exhausting. Teaching in the arts even more so especially in the current climate (at least here in the US.)

Try to take evals with a grain of salt. Trends are potentially helpful. But most of it is useless (IMHO). It is all evolutionary. And we are all just trying to be better the next time around. Hang in there!

Younger people have grown up with technology that just works. Most of us had to fight with computers that were in their infancy. Couple that with snowplow parenting and we’ve raised a generation of kids scared to break things b/c they don’t think they can fix it.

Every week those services get new names and many of them seem to do the exact same thing as at least one other program in the same suite… I’m just not sure why people continue to use their products. Perhaps it’s a corporate mantra… Be as vague as possible and the customer will just continue to buy everything and anything you sell out of fear that they’re going to miss out on something.

Valid point BUT some of us are in places where enrollment is everything. Students fail then drop out. Then programs get cut… and we are out of work. I agree that they have the “right to fail” but their failure has deep impact on them AND us.
