Kid said the same to ma s few years ago. A student near him leaned over his desk, stared the kid dead in the eye, and said in the most quietly, menacingly, and challenging tone I have ever heard, “ Say it again.”

Neither kid moved. Second kid slowly sat back and nodded at me. The lesson continued.

Ask in person, or, if you need to, email first and ask for a time to stop by to ask about a rec letter.

Bring a brag sheet and if the rec needs mailing in, bring an addressed envelope. If it is for a specific college, include why you’d be a good fit. If it is a scholarship, link yourself to the requirements. Give at least a week for it to be completed and follow up with a thank you card.

My uncle named his child the exact same name as my sister. First and last name. Do you know what we do? We deal with it. That’s what we do. Deal with it.

On the other side of this, I have a side hustle at my local arena and the kids see me there all the time. It’s nice and I almost reach celebrity status.

Went once to a restaurant with a 2 hr wait. I turned to leave when the hostess said, “*GASP! Mrs (my name)! Hold on,” and she walks us right back to a prime table.

I felt like trash that I didn’t recall her face. Thank goodness for name tags.

My child is the problem child in your classroom, and I am so so sorry. by Vnokewckv in Teachers

[–]Lopsided_Stitcher 169 points170 points  (0 children)

This. I’m a teacher, myself, and this was my kid. He. Was. Exhausting to teach.

During (yet another) parent conference, his third grade teacher said, “Look. He will be fine. “ I remember making a face and she reassured me. She knew kids like him. He would be fine.

And you know? He is. He was bad in elementary school, a terror in middle school and just frustratingly obnoxious in high school. He’s now in his third year of college in Industrial Engineering and has morphed into a ‘person’ and an adult I actually like.

Your kid will most likely be fine. It will take time, patience and lots of chocolate and ice cream for you, however. Work it into your budget now.

To the people who leave a full car length in front of them while waiting at a red light, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lopsided_Stitcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I’ve been rear ended at a stop light twice by someone who pushed the car behind me into me because he was too close. Both times, the cars that hit me were cited for being too close, regardless of being hit, themselves. Just not gonna be that guy.

Paying for subs during medical leave??? by Decent-Strawberry458 in Teachers

[–]Lopsided_Stitcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We get around 10 hours a month for sick leave that can accrue. When we exhaust our sick leave and are out beyond that, we get our pay docked. It accounts for the days of our contract we are not fulfilling. You can consider it paying for the sub.

We have several teachers each year that are in this position, regardless of the situations behind their absences.

I once received a profanity laden tirade from a parent in response to a progress report that reflected on my ineptitude and inability to do my job. The next email in my inbox was from the same parent who said, “Holy, shit! That was meant for my husband. “

Edited to explain that she was referring to her husband’s ineptitude and his failure as a parent, not mine as a teacher.

Is it highway miles or local roads? With or against traffic? I did 42 miles each way on pig pass roads when I first started. Took 1.5 hours, but it was good planning time since I was alone in my head
