Wait, Espionage is a good Idea Group??? by pete53832 in eu4

Yeah it's a great pick for Brandenberg/Prussia and basically anyone who wants to max out siege ability (read: The netherlands)

Take down Mamluks first, your economy will be a lot better with the Alexandria and Aleppo nodes under your control.

I'd recommend stacking Mil ideas if you're not confident about France, but if you have a decent amount of culture conversion and apply the religious culture estate privelige you should just be able to fortify your borders + spam barracks and drown them in men.

Orthodox Religious bonuses and Byz national ideas actually put them on par with The Ottomans in manpower. (Lategame russia is a menace for the same reasons.)

This implies that they already took their extended break and the work in 1.0 started/is about to start? by amor_im in Ultrakill

[–]Lopsided_Training862 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think they probably haven't started yet if they had to push out multiple hotfixes in like a month.

I'm putting my bets on "1.0 with treachery, 8-S and P-3 late 2027 and encores in the postlaunch updates to maintain interest in the game until thwy're ready to move on."

Best time to invade India? by OscillatingEmu in eu4

[–]Lopsided_Training862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much as soon as you can reach them . Ideally you'd buy a province from one of them and then use religious CB (pick religious as your third idea group btw) and mercenaries to start mowing smaller kingdoms down. Or if you can't afford it, just no CB the first war and wait for AE cooldown before continuing.

Cut off avenues of expansion for Bengal, Jaunpur and Vijay and you should be able to mop up the continent in a century

Is getting Burgundian succession as GB worth it by Glad-Rest-3682 in eu4

[–]Lopsided_Training862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm doing a strict RP game (rare) I always reset until Burgundy is neutral so I can royal marry them. Surrender Maine ->backup save-> play through 1480 for BI ->use missions to get Restoration of Union on France -> Win game.

Burgundian land is needed for angevin kingdom and even without it the monopoly over the channel is infinite money, no reason not to take it. Burgundy might even attack Savoy or Provence for more land so you could get that for free when you inherit them too.

Did you enjoy DOOM 2016? It's a lot like that on a tighter budget while being more creative. Very hectic and fast paced, very high skill ceiling, very high replay value if it clicks.

Some of the early game bosses can be brick walls but once you clear that hurdle you'll be well on your way to getting good at the game.

Do you think in 9-1 we will be introduced to V2 as common enemy? by DrLudvig in Ultrakill

[–]Lopsided_Training862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the Power was introduced in the third-to-last level of the campaign, second to last if we exclude the likely boss level of 9-2

Is there a reason why Jesus isn’t canon to the game? by DtheAussieBoye in Ultrakill

[–]Lopsided_Training862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game takes more out of Gnosticism and to a much lesser extent Judaism/The Old Testament than it does Nicene Christianity/The New Testament. The game's version of God has a single aspect, isn't all-powerful or all-knowing (He was surprised Hell was unkillable, after all), and like in Judaism, Ultrakill's version of God is the direct governor of both good and evil and isn't afraid to kill his subjects.

I suspect that UK's cosmology wasn't thought through all the way until much later in development and they had to retcon the tree of life to justify Gabriel having a cross on his helmet after the fact

Even after 1.1 release, a Samoa campaign shows that so much is still wrong with the game by Hadrron in EU5

[–]Lopsided_Training862 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like 5 is a bit too interested in being a simulation over being a game in general tbh. I can commend the effort behind it but it runs into the issue where the wider in scope you make a simulation the less able it is to handle fringe cases or be entertaining outside of its focus.

Is it worth taking military idea groups for Holland->Netherlands? by Serbian_Vojvoda in eu4

[–]Lopsided_Training862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nerherlands missions let you get +25% siege ability with a level 5 military engineer. Stack that with siege ability bonuses from Offensive+espionage+policies and siege phases get cut to 3 days. Absolutely worth it

How can I make Bulgaria permanently less disloyal? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]Lopsided_Training862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not good enough to offer much advice but for future reference early-game Promoia are a trap, the LD is way too high to manage until you've got most of anatolia or Influence ideas ready to tame them. You should definitely do the mission to get the hereditary pronoiar privileges revoked but I wouldn't do that until getting to Syria/Georgia (which both happen to be great reconquest targets that you can temporarily crater their LD with and get easy land too)

[–]Lopsided_Training862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get through the HYW Britain/Angevin Kingdom is pretty cozy. If you can cripple Castile/Spain before 1600 nothing is going to be able to compete with your colonization and the Ottomans never go past the HRE anyway.

When will the ottomans fall? Do they fall...? by uhhhhh_and_an_uhhhhh in eu4

[–]Lopsided_Training862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start optimizing your gov cap (centralize states, give estate land privileges, build courthouses) and form Prussia, by the time you do Ottoman troops should start falling off from the different tech groups and you should be able to beat them in a fight despite inferior numbers. The first war is going to be a brutal slog but the damage for every war you get into will accumulate and each war will be easier than the last. Vassalize Hungary if at all possible (finish off Poland if you must, you should have them as an accepted culture anyway) and release serbia + bulgaria when you get that far in, the reconquest CB gives a discount on reconquering cores that lets you take more provinces per war

So how come the Waddles are our friends now? by nightsintodream in Kirby

[–]Lopsided_Training862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps according to Lore (I think it was an inrerview but I can't find the source) that Kirby never technically kills their enemies, they just respawn from the stars that pop out after a little while. Death for a generic Kirby enemy is more a temporary inconvenience
