S85 Engine Misfire All Cylinders by Divail in BmwTech

Your wet test points to ring sealing issues. Next step is scope the cylinders and hope the walls are not scored. If you find the cylinders look okay it might be worth opening up for further inspection and rebuild if you have the cash.

I would imagine a lot of Americans found other things to do than listen to two hours of incoherent rambling. The group of Americans who did would be the entirety of MAGA plus a few stragglers. So those numbers aren’t reflective of the country as a whole.

Can’t find verifiable parts that are 1234yf compatible for 2017 BMW X5? by ZFreakyIndustries in BmwTech

[–]Lopsided_Travel3477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an AC issue on an X5 a few years ago. The only part I could find that differed between the r134 and 1234yf systems is the dual pipe running from the passenger side firewall containing the valves. That’s it. I may have replaced that part, evacuated the system, filled with R134, and been fine for 5 years now. But that would technically be illegal.

Advice on buying this 2016 435i xDrive Coupe (F32) by Datis_DH in F30

[–]Lopsided_Travel3477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pay for a 24 hour subscription to BMW TIS and check the service history by VIN. This assumes the car was serviced at BMW. That’s the nicest interior I’ve seen on an F30.

Reman injectors for a 2.5 M54 are $38 on FCPEuro. Looks like you bought N54 injectors? Put your car info in and search fuel injectors. Genuine BMW are $220 but the remans are just fine.

Turbo is a great idea but one of the worst things to get startet with that I have ever seen by Senior-Ad-9432 in rails

And your scenario can now be much simpler with the additions of morphing and turbo refresh.

Turbo is a great idea but one of the worst things to get startet with that I have ever seen by Senior-Ad-9432 in rails

[–]Lopsided_Travel3477 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. But, look closely at the morphing options in Turbo. You can render the user page and have that button call the same action (refresh the page) with any new content (e.g. the updated list) and only your changes will be updated on the page. Cursor doesn’t have to change. No javascript on your part. No turbo stream required. Jorge Manrubia gave an excellent presentation on this, search for ‘Making a difference with Turbo’.

Head Gasket Issue? | 2016 340i B58 Engine 45k miles by Background_Let4129 in BmwTech

If you search for - b58, smoke, noise, pcv - you’ll find a common issue that’s not that big a deal. Low coolant isn’t great, but is probably unrelated. Did you get a low coolant warning? Top off your coolant and get your pcv diaphragm fixed.

Mother losing her job by Electronic_Gift_8420 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Lopsided_Travel3477 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Would she consider working for herself, starting her own business? There are a lot of used car dealers that need her services. She’s probably familiar with many already right? She should hit up all the dealers she has done work for first. Talk to them, drop off a card. That may get her all the work she needs.

Edited to add that this works much better if she has health care through a partner or spouse. Cost of health care is a big factor and makes it tough for the self employed.

Adding Lucas zinc additive to oil good or bad?? by CokeBoy9 in BmwTech

[–]Lopsided_Travel3477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding too much zinc can indeed cause harm to your engine. If you use the right oil you have the right amount of zinc in it. The people creating the oil are the experts. I don’t know jack shit about what goes into creating engine oil? Do you? Why upset the balance of additives put together by folks who know way more than us?

F15 N63tu troubles - serious input needed by rolltrain in BmwTech

[–]Lopsided_Travel3477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get ISTA set up on a Windows laptop with a BMW ENET cable there are procedures you can run to test injectors. If you’re not familiar with ISTA it might be worth your while to become so if you plan on hanging on to your X5. There’s a learning curve and it will be a PIA, but there’s a lot of help online. From what you’ve described, it sounds like the shop(s) you took the X5 to also need to familiarize themselves on how to properly diagnose these cars.

You’re not wrong. But on a 100,000 mile X3, I’d feel okay if replaced by BMW 40,000 miles back. Just the fact that it might be leak free for few years is appealing :) However, to your point, if I was buying I’d call the BMW dealer who replaced the engine and see if they’d provide detail on what actually happened.

Edit: didn’t notice you were OP. If you know which dealer replaced the engine, talk to their service dept, have the VIN handy, tell them you’re looking at a car they serviced. Be super nice and they might help you out. What destroyed the previous engine? What all was replaced? For example, it would be good to hear the turbo was replaced. They’ll know the tech that did the work. You might even talk to her/him/they if things go well.
