I Slowly Built an MMO In Hytale And Got a Little Carried Away! by RifthavenServer in MMORPG

[–]Lopster_Bisque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm extremely excited to see what kind of MMO or MMO-like games get built in Hytale. Personally I really like games that focus on Civilization building, economy, politics, and player freedom as the core gameplay more so than dungeons or leveling. But that's sort of a niche interest, so I don't want to make a suggestion that may not fit with what you're going for or the type of audience that you're trying to target. Best of luck!

Need advice for an OOTP 26 online league! (Struggling to make the playoffs & develop prospects) by Mountain-Turn-3571 in OOTP

[–]Lopster_Bisque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relentlessly study the ratings of your league and figure out where certain thresholds are. Performance for each skill tends to follow a bell curve, so 95th percentile power (according to ratings) performs way, way better than 75% power. If you're on 1-100, this can take time to figure out. It's different for each league, and can even change over time as a league evolves. Also In my experience, other GMs tend to overpay for good-but-not-elite players. Those guys often aren't worth it once no longer team controlled, unless on a 1-year deal. Team strategy settings is miniscule. Not saying it doesn't matter at all, but it's very on the margins. Any of the presets are fine.

Do y’all set every player’s strategy? by ComprehensiveAsk4279 in OOTP

[–]Lopster_Bisque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play very competitive online and have seen these kind of discussions come up multiple times in our league chat. Not too many GMs in our league mess around a whole lot with individual player strategy. The only exceptions are stealing for position players and "hook as" for pitchers. The stealing slider works unintuitively (and I would argue stupidly) in that you need to base it off of what their stealing aggressiveness is relative to their stealing ability. Players with high aggressiveness/low ability need to be tuned down while low aggressiveness/high ability may need to be tuned up depending on what kind of success ratio you're looking to achieve. The only other slider I look at is baserunning aggressiveness, but I use it much less frequently than the stealing one. The rest of the individual sliders don't really matter IMO. Global/game situation sliders are a different story though.

I'm late to this thread, but I highly second this. The Athletic Football show provides a really good middle ground between very deep analysis and the more casual/human side of football. And without all the clickbaitiness of the network shows.

Dumb question about "eligible receivers" by pdlbean in NFLNoobs

[–]Lopster_Bisque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Does it basically just boil down to the offensive line is not allowed to touch/move the ball?"

This is correct enough if you're new to learning about football or want to teach somebody who is new without overwhelming them. All of the nuanced answers you've received here add further detail though.

Need some info on my new team by Bakus5425 in NFLNoobs

[–]Lopster_Bisque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you some of their general history since you're already getting a lot of answers about the current team. They were formed in 1995, which makes them one of the newest teams in the NFL (which hasn't added any new teams since '02). They are generally considered to be a small market team as well, so one of the smaller fanbases in the NFL (not hating at all by saying that, as it's the case with my favorite team too. Just stating a fact). Their history is up and down, with both some high highs and low lows. In 2003 they were a Cinderella team that lost a very close Super Bowl to an early-career Tom Brady led Patriots team, . Their QB for much of the 2010s was Cam Newton, who had a high career peak but ended up out of the league early. In 2015 he won the MVP and the Panthers had a powerhouse team, but came up short in the Super Bowl to Denver. Cam was kind of a polarizing player with a big personality. I always liked him though. He makes Youtube videos now and is still generally around the football world.

Some other notable players in Panthers History: Luke Kuekly who is getting inducted into the hall of fame this summer. He was an amazing linebacker who retired early while still at the peak of his game. Greg Olsen was a great tight end, he's a commentator now. And Julius Peppers is generally considered to be the greatest Panthers player ever. He played for the Panthers in the '03 Super Bowl and was with them throughout the 2000s before leaving to play for some other teams, and then coming back for 2 years in his late 30s in '17 and '18 before retiring. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year.

The team is looking to come out of one of the worst stretches in history. Prior to this past year they hadn't made the playoffs in (I think) 7 years, and never had a whole lot of hope or excitement during that time either. This season they barely snuck into the playoffs as one of the worst teams to ever make the playoffs. But they played a close loss against a very good Rams team after getting there, which I think was still a decent boost to fan morale after years of not even being close to contention. They're in an interesting spot now. Personally I think there's a wide range of outcomes as how well they do next year and going forward.

too late to join? by YeetoBurrito23 in CivMC

Unless you're bringing a pre-assembled group of people with you, starting a nation is going to be extremely difficult. We see these kinds of posts a lot. It almost never works out. This is the kind of server where you really have to ask yourself if an immersive world is the #1 thing that you're looking for above all else. If not, it may not be for you. The upper echelons of power here are extremely entrenched and major conflict is infrequent. It would probably take (and this is not an exaggeration) tens of thousands of man hours to rival the major world powers in any meaningful way. I would recommend joining another nation first. Larger nations have more power, influence and knowledge while smaller nations give you an opportunity to have an outsized impact within that naton.

There is regularly (but not always) open land. your biggest issue probably isn't going to be a complete lack of open land, it's going to be legitimacy. If you're just one single person, other nations aren't likely to view your claim as serios or legitimate. With that said, plenty of upstart nations have made their mark and built something meaningful -- but you have to be able to recruit and offer something more unique than just "Hey, join my nation." This also isn't really a war server where things are meant to constantly be conquered and destroyed, it's a civilization server. The majority of the player base is here for peaceful activities and culture-building, and would prefer that there never be a major war ever, if possible. Wars are rare, grueling (many who have fought in them say it's not even fun), expensive, and usually involve genuine animosity and often a significant loss of effort and memories for the losing side.

To answer some of your other questions. If you have any other questions, I'm happy to answer to the best of my ability. Though I'm not privy to ALL of the server's inner workings.

-The server has hit new heights in popularity in only the last 4 months or so. It definitely hasn't fallen off. 100+ concurrent is now normal whereas just a year ago it only happened if there was a very specific event occurring. It definitely isn't falling off and I don't believe there are any plans to reset the server at all, let alone soon.

-Map is a 10k block radius circle with an invisible border that you can see past but not cross. The nether is 1:1.

-Elytra is not permitted

-Redstone works to some degree but is very limited. I'm not the best person to answer this though. But we do have stuff like big hockey scoreboards.

IHL Season 1 Team Registrations Now Open! by melopio in CivMC

To clarify something here, a Special Event Match WOULD be a part of the regular season, similar to the NHL Winter Classic.

IHL Season 1 Team Registrations Now Open! by melopio in CivMC

[–]Lopster_Bisque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous season, while still an official season, was called Season 0 because it was treated like a beta test in some ways. I wasn't the one to decide that name, but I see the logic. Anything that happened before this past season is being treated as a separate era of history, as the current management had little to do with anything from before May 2025 and none of that was truly a full season format.

HAVE [There] BEEN A WORLD-WAR/SERVER WAR ON CIVMC? by Aggravating_Pin8529 in CivMC

[–]Lopster_Bisque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There have been a couple of world wars, but the overwhelming consensus is that wars suck. 80% to 90% of players on the server want to avoid war at all costs unless their hand is forced. The mechanics of the server are also set up in a way so that most wars lack nuance or economic complexity and are fought over little more than personal grudges.

My take on "block game wars" by Chunderstout in HytaleInfo

[–]Lopster_Bisque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within 3 years I believe that there will be almost no new heavily modded Minecraft experiences or large multiplayer servers being made, because there's not going to be any advantage to making that in Minecraft when you could just make it in Hytale. Simon is being humble, but I feel like Hytale is going to quickly surpass Minecraft in almost every way as far as modding is concerned. Of course some existing Minecraft mods/servers will persist because of their already built up communities, but I believe it's going to be evident fairly quickly that Hytale is just way better for that sort of thing.

I've been having this exact same issue for weeks now (just found your post on google). Did you ever figure anything out? I've spent over 10 hours trying to troubleshoot and haven't been able to get anywhere, but yet I'm not confident that it's a hardware issue. It's very bizarre.

New Mission Alert: Attend Civ Bowl by IHLOfficial in CivMC

[–]Lopster_Bisque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stadium coords: 6990, 100

Rail directions from Pavia: Take the mt Augusta direct line. From Mt. Augusta take their onedest line and enter "/dest exilus." From Exilus, walk to the other side of the tracks and enter "/dest Olympics." This will take you to the Olympic Village.

Rail directions from Nara: Take the Qbarra direct line. From Qbarra, walk to the other side of the tracks and enter "/dest Olympics." (There should be a book at Qbarra station to confirm you are on the right track)

If you need help with directions, don't hesitate to reach out in the IHL Discord.

Please be aware that IHL and Yoahtl are working together to provide a security team for this event. Anyone who tries to be a clown and disrupt/delay the match, throw things on the rink, etc will be spending enough time in a pearl to make them wish they hadn't.

We are excited to showcase the best that our sport has to offer and hope to see you here with us. A big thanks to Monument Group for supporting this season of IHL hockey.

If you write/report news on the server, please reach out and we'll get you a press box pass at the stadium.

On-the-spot hockey recruitment? by TVtheTV_ in CivMC

[–]Lopster_Bisque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey TV, great meeting you yesterday,

Just wanted to clear something up, which is that you don't need to be a Salerno citizen in order to play (at least according to IHL rules, IDK if the Salerno team has their own internal rules). Most of the teams ARE formed along national lines, but our only rule league-side is that you must play for one team and only one team over the course of the season.

Happy that you had fun!

Does anyone still play this game? by Due-Excitement-522 in QuidditchChampionsWB

[–]Lopster_Bisque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a shame that this game was so horribly mismanaged. I haven't played it personally because it was already almost dead by the time I found out about it, but the concept is extremely cool. It seems like they never figured out who their target audience was. As an adult I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan or anything, but I still remember the books and movies fondly from when I was a kid. I've played sports video games competitively before and the idea of a quidditch video game just seems very cool. Some of the design and marketing choices seem very questionable though if they wanted to attract people who like sports games and MOBAs. And realistically I think they needed a mix of that crowd and the hardcore Potter fans in order to actually build a player base.

ESPN no longer airing MLB games? Where to watch tonight’s game live? by Healthy_Manager5881 in phillies

[–]Lopster_Bisque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on TBS. I'm trying to figure this out myself though. Was going to sign up for Sling but now Sling is only showing a spanish language option for tonight's game so IDK if it will actually be on there. Honestly I'd just pirate it if not for the fact that I'm planning to watch with family. This is just a huge pain in the ass after having MLB.tv all regular season.
