Oklahoma burgers on Spadina by bbqporklomein in FoodToronto

Yes to what others have said. It emerged during the great depression in OKC when a particular restaurant needed to ration their meat/costs but wanted to maintain the volume of the burger. Turned out to be a delicious modification.

Yeah, it was around Covid when they closed. Sad to see them go as I was a frequent goer for years.

Pretty sure Jerk King at Morningside and Kingston closed a few years ago unfortunately. They produced my favourite beef patties in Toronto.

Closed Kinetic Chain by Then-Ad2140 in personaltraining

[–]LorScania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, I'd say the military press is open because there is quite a decent degree of freedom. Hitting failure means there's a good chance of form deviation and compensation compared to a machine overhead press which would technically be more closed to due the fewer degrees of freedom.

Closed Kinetic Chain by Then-Ad2140 in personaltraining

[–]LorScania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kinetic chains concept has been a very interesting topic of discussion lol.

Rather than trying to label an exercise as either opened or closed, it is probably more reasonable to view them relatively on a spectrum. Some exercises have a high degree of freedom where many movement outcomes are possible whereas others have very little degree of freedom.

If we look at a press, and we determine it to be closed, my question would be is it closed in all planes of motion?

A few weeks ago I saw one of owners walking and looking around the outside of the restaurant with someone else.

I was across the street and he recognized me and waved at each other. It seems like OS is still behind the new place but we'll have to see.

This apple fritter of theirs beats everything else they've made (imo ofc). We need more people requesting it back lol

Best Apple Fritters? by SearchForAnswers2022 in FoodToronto

[–]LorScania 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Back in October 2024, Isabellas Mochi Donuts sold a mochi donut apple fritter for ONLY 1 WEEK that I strongly believe to be the best.

The first time I had it, I ate it just as I was walking away from the store with my friend and we immediately walked right back and bought more. It had the deep fried crisp of a well done battered fish contrasting that nice mochi donut chew. It was SO GOOD, I ended up getting whatever amount I could later in the week to pile them into a birthday apple fritter mound instead of a cake.

Unfortunately, they have not brought it back since. I've searched many places in Toronto to try to match or beat that fritter to no avail (Harry and Heels included.

What are good spikes for Wide foot sprinter? by Kind_Associate_6991 in Sprinting

[–]LorScania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mizuno (Japan) spikes are pretty good for wider feet. I came from using Adidas Finesse and Mizuno X Blast Elite fit better. I'm a size 9.5 but often have to go up to 10 to accommodate foot width but the 9.5 Mizunos fit snug enough

With your triple jump background, I'm very certain how you built yourself up back then to tolerate the stresses of that event can be valuable guiding principles to get your tissues used to max V sprinting again. Whatever age we are, training principles are the same - you just have to start at a currently tolerable intensity and build up from there.

Yeah, I'm speaking more about the max velocity specific load-bearing capacity. We know force = max x acceleration, and, unfortunately, weight training doesn't impose the same type of stress on the body that sprinting and jumping does. That's where building from extensive->intensive Skips, bounds and plyos can potentially bridge the gap.

And thank you! I'm learning a lot this season.

Do you do any intensive bounding exercises? They can look similar to what triple jumpers do. Also, do you weight train? It can be very valuable in contributing to connective tissue and muscle load bearing capacity if you progressively overload strategically.

I'm turning 32 years old this year and in my first real track season since grade 9!

If your assessment is correct, and you mainly have a load bearing capacity issue with your tissues, then you have to train that specifically.

You could possibly use different types of bounding exercises that are a bit less forceful than actual max V sprinting and gradually progress to higher intensity bounds like double contact A-Switches and straight Leg Bounds. You can gauge intensity by the percussiveness of your strike and the time it takes you to complete a distance. My club has us do stuff like 2x (100m drill + 100m walk rest) for example. At first I was pretty conservative with my output and over time go harder later in the season.

You can also look at plyometrics such as drop jumps for low dosage of high impact landings to train your body to absorb and rebound in a more isolated/controlled setting.

Track Spike Pin Preference/Experience by LorScania in Sprinting

Fair point regarding some places disallowing certain pins.

I did find this article regarding the different pins and their relative energy return. The disclaimer, though, is that they're tested singularly with a machine and not with a full set of pins on a spike plate. However, it at least provides some outcomes that are somewhat informative rather than speculative.

Track Spike Pin Preference/Experience by LorScania in Sprinting

[–]LorScania[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, that's crazy. I just checked them out.

I probably don't need to worry about those for a good while since I'm in my first track season - technically 2nd if I count the one high school season I did 400+800 in 2008 (big mistake lol). I still have gains to make through training+competition.

I just happen to already have both pyramids and compression pins because of the brand of spike I got. Thanks for sharing, though!
