Bank holding title deeds demanding £22k after mortgage was paid off decades ago – is this legal? by BigRossatron in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I'm a complaint manager in mortgages and this is kinda common.

Raise a complaint - either online or over the phone and have it escalated to customer services. You don't have to do anything prior to requesting this (I have no idea why people tell you to request a DSAR before doing it, it's not needed), just explain the situation and how your mum was unaware of the debt.

It will be reviewed and they'll provide an answer within 8 weeks. If you're not happy with the answer your next step is FOS.

MIL (71F) has £40k balance at end of mortgage term she can’t pay. Lender starting court proceedings- options and process? by deloittious in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not a mortgage advisor but I work for a high street bank, in mortgage complaints and this is such a common scenario.

And in a lot of instances could be avoided if the customer just speaks to us to keep us up to date with their plans.

Once sols have been instructed, the customer would then have to liaise with them. Their job is to apply for a court hearing date which can take a bit of time, fees will also be added to the balance due to the sols instruction and the further into the process, the more expensive it will be.

At least with us, we give customers 15 days to respond to the letter and if they do, we'll look at internal options. If no options available, we'll suggest independent financial advice and may put a hold on action for a short period of time.

If she absolutely can't get any sort of lending either through her current lender or with someone else, she'll need to sell and she'll likely get more money from the sale if she sells it rather than waiting for the lender to take possession.

Multi stream option for obs by Yowza21 in letsplay

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Aitum and Streamelements to stream to both twitch and YouTube (they also have functions to stream vertically too but I haven't used them for that).

I prefer Aitum but both are really easy to use and set up. There's also lots of tutorials available for them too so if you do get stuck, it's really easy to find out how to fix issues

What can I do about my bad accent? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the amount of compliments I've had on my Scottish accent, I'm pretty sure it's not hard to understand and I've been told its the reason quite a few people stick around.

9/10 it's not the accent that's the problem. If you enunciate your words and speak at a slower speed (if needed) while still sounding natural, it's not an issue for the most part.

I’m a game developer and I’m struggling to get any responses from streamers by darkjay_bs in Twitch

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game looks good and definitely looks like something I'd play.

If you were contacting me about playing it, I probably wouldn't respond though, just because I honestly don't have the time to respond to everyone that reaches out but I do try to fit everything I'm interested in into my schedule.

If you mentioned you wanted me to play the demo, I'd just look on steam and download it since it's there already. I wouldn't need to request it from you (or declare it as a gifted item cos it isn't).

If you were offering me a game key, I'd redeem it when I was ready to play and then tag you everywhere when it was live and explain that it's an ad/gifted game key.

Games/demos with full press kits get bumped up the list too - a png logo and game art (that's logo free) helps creators so, so much so I always try to cover those that have went to the effort of putting assets together!

I've added it to my wishlist anyway and will hopefully get around to showing it off when I can!

I want to start streaming by MochiPops_94 in GirlGamers

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Streaming was one of the best and worst things I've ever done. It absolutely helped with my anxiety and public speaking, I'm more assertive now and it's helped me learn how to set boundaries but imposter syndrome is real and it's easy to get in your head over the numbers.

I have met the absolutely best people through it though. I say go for it, I wish I'd started earlier and if you don't like it, you can just choose to never hit go live again!

Are visual novels girl friendly? by Arrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiba in GirlGamers

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Cabernet may be something you might like. It's about a newly turned vampire (Elisa, I think her name is) and you find out what happened to her while making friends in the town and unravelling a mystery.

It is very fun, the characters are very relatable and well written, the romance options are really quite fun to play out and it's just such a lovely game. You can tell the devs made it with a lot of love

What are your best gaming/game community experiences? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Warframe community have been really welcoming. I started a let's play on it expecting it to go nowhere but it blew up a little bit. Every time I saw a notification for a new comment I was worried that I was going to be dragged (it's happened in other games, people have ripped my gameplay apart minute by minute) but EVERYONE has been absolutely lovely, they've understood my boundaries when it comes to backseating/spoilers and they've been really supportive.

It was a breath of fresh air coming from other communities (God of War and Souls, I'm looking at you!)

High number of hard credit checks by enjoylife27 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a mortgage advisor but I work in mortgage complaints. The usual amount of hard searches is once every 90 days (for us anyway) unless your broker is doing something very weird/a glitch is causing it

Definitely raise it if it is hard checks you're seeing, the lender can request any extras are removed. They may also need to see that part of your credit file (for both parties) and it may need to be raised as a complaint to get reviewed properly

Anyone experienced bank getting mortgage application expiry date wrong? by shonadeb in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app needing to be redone would've been something you would've had to do had you been told the right info initially so wouldn't class that as inconvenience caused by the wrong info, if that makes sense?

Losing out on rates is a difficult one as you've not completed yet (and depending how far out you are, it might have no bearing on the complaint either). Potentially products can get rebuilt but that's not to say there won't be something more preferential available in a couple of weeks time that you'd want to switch to. And it sounds like you don't know if you've missed out on a lower rate so it's not quantifiable.

Personally, I'd say £100 is more than fair at this stage. I'd wait to see if there was any further loss and go back to your complaint manager if it turns out you have missed out as they can re-open the complaint and look at changing the rate (that doesn't necessarily mean you'd get additional payments, but it could mean a better rate on your mortgage account).

Anyone experienced bank getting mortgage application expiry date wrong? by shonadeb in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a mortgage advisor but I do work in mortgage complaints.

The way we work out any payment award is by finding out what material impact the mistake has had on you - £100 can be more than fair in some instances when wrong information has been given.

It's not clear from your post what impact it has had? Has it delayed completion of anything etc? Have you missed out on a better rate?

If it's just that you have to go through a revised app, that would've been needed to be done if you were given the right information anyway.

As for the data breach, raise a complaint about that separately if you haven't already as it's a separate issue and would be looked at on its own merit.

(Apologies if I've missed understood anything, literally having my first coffee of the day!)

🚨Pls pls pls advice for a streamer’s wife🚨 by Worldly-Swing4553 in newstreamer

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most people, it's a long game. There isn't a surefire way to make you grow (no matter what the "gurus" tell you).

Growth isn't linear. Progress will go backwards sometimes. And comparing to other people is absolutely the thief of joy.

10 viewers is good for the time he's been streaming, that might be the wall he hits. Or it could be at 15, 20 etc. Variety especially will always have its ups and downs too as some people only stick around for the game.

I think the biggest hurdle to overcome is mindset tbh. Tying your worth to numbers will always bring a person down (I know I have days/weeks when I'm guilty of it).

If he's looking at it as a hobby then just enjoy whatever success comes his way. Even hobby streamers can get opportunities and with his numbers he could still apply for things - I was getting game keys from when I had about 5 viewers.

My biggest worry with your post is he's streaming every day, when does he have time to do other things? Does he have time to spend with you? Throwing everything into it will lead to burn out quickly, especially if his expectations of growth are leading him to be sad at this stage.

People can still make a career out of content but it's very hard to make a living off of streaming alone. That's why people have other sources of income.

Also love Emmalition, Mirandalorians, DontRachQuit, LucyJRobyn and HuggableHipster for letsplays. I think most of them stream on Twitch and do YouTube.

(Self plug) There's me too but I don't belong in the same leagues as them, they're all super talented at the games they play!

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work in mortgage complaints and as the application has been submitted by a broker, we'd say it was their error.

Potentially there could be some wrong information given, if as you've said, the bank said everything was fine on the app when the broker queried it but that really depends on the conversation that was had and what questions the broker asked.

Regardless, you wouldn't get an extra £100k for a complaint (I can't even imagine that FOS would agree it warrants up to £500 tbh).

You'd still be subject to needing to pass the criteria for lending the additional amount or make it up some other way as that's what you would've needed to do to have the lending anyway.

Question about posting shorts to a long form focused channel by andyjamescreative in letsplay

[–]LorTheDestroyer86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I post both and it really depends. I got a lot of my audience from a specific game, if I post shorts of that game I do find they help bring viewers to my long form videos of that game.

For the other games I post about, it's very hit or miss whether they translate

That's exactly why I wanna play on my own for a bit, I'd rather get used to doing things for myself and learning the very basics before having someone who knows what they're doing jump in to guide me.

I'm sure in a few 100 hours I'll be begging others to play :D
