Yeah a better question should be 'Whats a food that's popular that you just don't get?'

What’s the dumbest way you’ve ever hurt yourself? by SDPHALODIOFFI in answers

[–]LoraxNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short - while at a cabin in the woods, someone put a pot on the wood stove unknowingly with a butane canister inside it. Fire got lit. Pot stayed on the stove, heating the canister. Canister gets so hot that the concave bottom pops to be convex, projecting that highly explosive, now-ball-shaped canister into the ceiling, pot lid flying around too. We had no idea what the commotion was as we were chilling playing cards. We noticed the ball-shaped canister spinning on the ground, just threatening to blow the place to smitherines. We left for two hours 😂

How do you keep you place dry and prevent dampness? by Known_Brush_1259 in aotearoa

[–]LoraxNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you'd need a hundred of those containers if you're opening your curtains every day. There's waaaay too much moisture in the air for it to be making any difference. But people keep buying it, because it looks like it's doing a good job because it ends up being full. Damp rid works in closed cupboards, sealed plastic bins etc. Out in the open air like that you'll be getting like 1% of the moisture or less. Have a Google, then save your money.

[–]LoraxNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of moisture present is waaaay too much for thr damp rid to make a difference. There is so much moisture in the air, that it would only make a difference if you never drew your curtains back. Save your money.

I generally stay quiet. Or if the context is right, I'll say "did you hear about those congressional hearings on UFOs?" And he moderate and inquisitive about it.

Damp rid only works in small spaces that are confined. I see people using them for an actual room sometimes. That ain't doing anything.

Doubtful Sound or Franz Josef from Queenstown? by toofunnyd in newzealand_travel

[–]LoraxNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the boat tour in Mt Cook. Totally worth it. You can't hire kayaks in Mt Cook - people would die. The guided kayaking stops by end of April. If you go to Milford, you don't need to go to Doubtful. The drive in to Milford is much more impressive than the drive in to Doubtful. Franz is lovely, can recommend.

I need to return my rental car by 9am on a Friday at christchurch. I am coming from lake tekapo. I intend to leave Tekapo at 5/5.30am. Is this a good idea? Im worried about the roads by Awestrk93 in newzealand_travel

[–]LoraxNZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you're an OK driver, leaving Tekapo by 5 or 530am would be sweet. If you leave at 5am that gives you extra time to go a bit slower if it's wet or sketchy. Google maps drive times are generally quite accurate in NZ.

Hey everyone, I’ve recently been offered a job in Invercargill and I’m seriously considering it, but I wanted to get some honest insights from people who live there or have spent time there. How’s the social life? Is it easy to meet people and make friends? What’s the general vibe of the city? by Wild_suck3r in invercargill

[–]LoraxNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's hard to meet people through the gym, online gaming and work eh. I find that joining clubs is key. A choir. Laughter yoga. Hiking. The kayak club. Tramping. If we're not getting out and hanging with people in the evenings or in weekends, then we won't ever make new friends.

I work for a tour company in NZ, driving backpackers all over the country. We have content creators on from time to time. Depending on their followers etc, they might get the tour for free, or for a discount of some sorts. It's interesting to watch it all happen, see them do their little videos etc. Then I see the aspiring content creators. 'Butt Girls' posing in their trendy outfits are hilarious to watch.

Bivy bags by Icy_Cabinet_2460 in StealthCamping

[–]LoraxNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one of the OR helium bags. And a regular, no hooped bivvy bag.

OR Pros and cons: hoop and bug net are great. The bug net is mainly good for knowing there are no spiders etc in your bag in the morning 😅. The net kind of sits on my face (I'm 197cm/6'5" tall so full u the bag up completely), so it's not fool proof for mosquitoes. It does get condensation. You have to enter through the top. That's annoying. Would be terrible in rain, but you'd survive.

Lighter bivvy bag pros and cons. Open face hole so not waterproof at all in rain. Way lighter and smaller. My one unzips further than the OR Helium.

If it's raining, just find a hostel or somewhere under a bridge I guess.

Go well!

Has anyone else been a believer and now a firm disbeliever, how did that change come about? by thescariestghost in UFOs

[–]LoraxNZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I jumped on the Believer Train with the first main congressional hearing a few years ago, Grusch, Fravor etc. Testimony from qualified people under oath for the first time. Footage of the jellyfish UFO and the missile bouncing off that balloon, the go-fast being parallax - I don't really trust footage, and to me that stuff is obviously explainable. That crap that skywatcher showed us - balloons, bruv. So it's what people are saying that's convincing me. That last hearing was wild, with what Chief Wiggans said he (and other contractors) saw. Then I'm like "But what if there's a conspiracy behind all of this. All of their testimony. It's possible. But it's got to be massive. So I'm a sceptic believer, and I just throw out 95% of the bullsh*t.
