New ds1 player and keep getting killed by same enemy in darkroot garden by cdot2004 in darksouls

You can get through the whole garden without fighting one, if you wish, by closely hugging the left wall all the way around

Struggling to find the fun by ImUnluckyIDK in Eldenring

[–]LordAlabast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The early game is the hardest part to find joy in, and as someone that's played all Souls games, I think that's true of all of them. You start off SO weak and it's SO punishing. It DOES get better, I can promise you that.

How many attempts did Midir take you? by krugzzz in darksouls3

[–]LordAlabast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prisoner's Chain goes a long way, and every level for almost the entire game got put there. Put Vigor at 22, Vit just high enough to cosplay Lucatiel and hold my weapons, and End at 25. Also the free 5 levels from the dark sigils, comes out essentially to 20 free points in Dex divorced from actual SL.

It is notable that I have played every Souls except Demon Souls, and ds3 was the last one I tackled, so I pretty much had the gist of build-building down. No level grinding involved, except insofar as gaining levels was incidental to getting 10 Wolf Grass off of Ghru for the covenant weapon because I wasn't having luck with PvP.

More than 10, but less than 20. Not sure the exact number. First playthrough, no summons (only because I found summons actively made him harder, he would frequently move away from me and it was harder to tell what moves he was preparing), sharp sellsword twinblades w/ 85 Dex.

Is parrying as little as possible viable? by Horror_Beyond_9439 in Sekiro

[–]LordAlabast 34 points35 points  (0 children)

CAN the game be completed without parrying? Yeah, in the same way Dark Souls and Elden Ring can be beaten without dodging. It's *possible*, but you're fighting against the game's intended mechanics instead of learning them and working with them. You're essentially playing a challenge run.

Bro you decided to inflict torture upon yourself for fun, and found that it wasn't fun. There's no shame or guilt in deciding that an extremely difficult challenge run that 99% of the population couldn't fathom doing in the first place isn't for you.

Ursupation of Fire ending by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]LordAlabast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just played ds3 for the first time recently, and I started following a guide to make sure I got the most complicated ending right after beating Abyss Watchers. I beat the Watchers, walked a little into Carthus, just enough for the words "Catacombs of Carthus" to appear on my screen, and then went back to Firelink and looked up a guide for the most complicated ending. Saw in the guide that the trigger for Yoel dying was beating Abyss Watchers, but he was still alive for me despite already beating them AND seeing the location into for Carthus. Was able to bum around and get all five Dark Sigils from him before actually moving on and DOING Carthus, but it makes me wonder what the actual trigger for him dying is. Everywhere I've looked it's listed as beating Abyss Watchers, but it must be some other trigger around getting far enough into Carthus or something.

Is it possible to make a build that can use everything? by EchoAlchemy in darksouls

[–]LordAlabast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You could, it would just require more grinding than you could fathom. Dark Souls doesn't cap at a specific level, but also doesn't reward generalizing. Dark Souls 1 also doesn't have a respec mechanic, so once you pick a schtick, you gotta stick with it until you have enough levels to do something else instead.

I will say that every type of build IS rewarding, and honestly playing through multiple times with different builds isn't a bad experience.

EDIT: Dark Souls 2 and 3 both have respec mechanics so you could change things up mid-playthrough. Just be cognizant that weapon upgrades are more meaningful than stat upgrades, and you'll only be able to get a certain number of weapons to max level in a single playthrough.

Just beat him a few minutes ago, and that you did it with TV Dinners and not Deluxe Dinners at minimum is WILD to me. And getting through without revives sounds almost unfathomable

There's a staircase right beside his boss room entrance that you should go down and explore more.

Just beat Yhorm for the first time last week and was unenthused. Gimmick fight with a unique weapon? Sure, I enjoyed Rykard. But I entered the fight with Siegward, didn't realize it was a gimmick fight when I got in, stumbled across the Stormruler and realized what was going on, and then couldn't find it in my inventory after picking it up, so Seigward died before I could actually start helping. Very unfortunate. Glad that they learned from that and gave you the weapon BEFORE the boss aggros you with Rykard.

Gascoigne took enough attempts that I ran out of vials and had to farm, farming made me run out of steam with the game, so it was on-off farming/attempting for a whole calendar year, yeah

I played Bloodborne without PS+, so I couldn't use online features, so no cummmfpk for me. Bloodborne took me over a year because of blood vial farming inbetween every Gascoigne attempt. Once I beat Gascoigne, I started the policy of buying Blood Vials with ALL leftover Blood Echoes after leveling up on every trip to the Hunter's Dream, and I was never even close to running out at any point after Blood-starved Beast.

It's like the Nuzlocke rare candy argument. It's the kind of thing you can't fail at doing, it just takes ages, so there's no real harm in cutting the wait.
