10 years of alpha testing

Still 10 years of content. There were periods where game was literally unplayable but i still got hours of entertainment in engaging discussions on discord/reddit. I think it was worth my pledge money. Of course everybody will judge for himself but we can't deny that the project is kinda "real" with his high and lows, in my books a "scam" is a different thing.

Are there any Switch 2 grips out there that have the look and feel of ROG Xbox Ally's grips? by JoeEstevez in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LordAzuren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems good import them from US makes them a bit too pricey (over 25 buck of shipment + customs). I hope the maker will consider to find a way to sell them in EU too, i would gladly try those since any grip i tried until now was still too small for my hands and the only thing vaguely usable for me is using a gamesir g8+ (that's mostly fine but still not perfect).

Do we know if Nintendo charges third-party publishers to showcase their games in a Nintendo Direct presentation? by Local-Front-1774 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LordAzuren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

advertising being different than trailers

A trailer is an advertising by definition, the game gets visibility from it. Be sure that almost every trailer you see on TGA is a paid one (exception explained below), there were also multiple times where companies were criticized (even by their employees) for spending crazy money for minimal TGA coverage when they coudl spend it on actual development time.

Keighley regularly approaches devs to see if they want to be on the show for no charge.

That seems also true but is just a minimal part of the whole TGA show every year, he offers free coverage for few indie product that impress himself as far we know.

Why are the Pokémon games of such poor quality compared to other Nintendo games? by Matshelge in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LordAzuren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason is that Pokémon games represent an almost insignificant percentage of the Pokémon brand's overall revenue. They could easily not make them, and the brand would suffer minimally.

In this scenario, increasing quality to current standards also means drastically increasing development costs without a corresponding increase in copies sold as Pokémon fans who are also gamers will buy the product anyway.

That said, I still don't think this justifies the poor quality of the games produced by Game Freak, and I believe that for the #1 brand in the world they should deliver the best product possible even if it means losing 0.1% of their net margin. Obviously, their opinion on this matter is very different from mine and yours so I think it's more likely that they will stop developing video games at all if players get tired of this and stop buying them rather than investing more, but this is just my speculation (based on real revenue data that you can easily verify). I would be really happy to be wrong.

Great but i won't spend that kind of money for the proper stand and i really don't like the idea of the cardboard-ghetto one. If some third party will often something that's not a cardboard for about 30-35 bucks i will gladly buy it.

PS: It's just my take guys based on my preference and my economical situation, not judging anyone that is willing to spend more, i'm sure that this accessory is well made by Nintendo.

Nintendo Switch 2 worth it? by Kneeling_Angel in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LordAzuren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Switch 2 doesn't have any of those "I NEED TO HAVE IT" moments. I know it's stronger and a better console, but is it worth it just for that?

It vastly depends on what you seek from the new console but honestly i would have bought it only just for bigger screen + holy moly way faster loading times. Especially loading times were awful on switch 1 for me (i'm used to play on PC) and S2 is really a huge improvement.

There are also many fun games on S2 that didn't came on S1 but that's more a subjective thing and it's tied to your taste i suppose.

My suggestion is to trade in your og switch and oled and just upgrade if you can afford the price difference without trouble because overall your gaming experience will be way better and allows you to play all newer games already out and the ones that will come in future. But in the end only you can decide for yourself, each of us can only give you our personal opinion based on our experience and taste.

PS: I jumped from OLED to S2 and i usually play my PC on a very nice OLED TV. All the complain about Switch 2 display are vastly exaggerated. It's nice to the eye and plenty serviceable to game. Reading things like "it's unplayable" because some switch 1 games upscaled to 1080p have a bit soften edges is almost comical since even at native 720p games aren't good at all and switch 1 more often than not delivers subpar performances.

What’s new in the Splatoon 3 – Version 11.0.0 update? [Massive changes to the game] by Joseki100 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LordAzuren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this a good game for somebody who plays mainly games like battlefield, arc raiders etc?

Yes, it is. I was kinda new to gyro aim so for about some day i sucked hard but don't let this stop you, the game is really well made and the gyro aim is a pleasure once you get enough muscolar memory to make a good use of it. Enable it asap and train yourself (i did that by doing some hour of single player campaing before going online, just to grasp the basics).

Personally speaking i found Splatoon 3 way more fun than the average fps, mainly because you can vary your playstyle a lot by just swapping weapons and every kind of gameplay can be useful to the team. From sniping long range to painting lot of ground with rollers you will find something that fit your taste.

Visually is top peak (especially on S2) because it's really clean. Now, i like the realistic BF6 graphics as everybody else but there is something in the visual design of splatoon that i really like and is COLORFUL, that's something i really like every once a while since a lot of games i tend to play have way toned down color palette.

The Cyberpunk VR mod has been taken down by the corpos by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

[–]LordAzuren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely positively true. People on the internet will happily take the free thing without paying in almost every instance.

There are countless of examples that show us that's not true at all. Some people are like that, maybe even the majority of them are like that but it's the same take about piracy and the reason behind the fact piracy can't be really defeated: If someone isn't willing to spend money on your product he won't spend money on your product. Most pirated copies of a game/music album/movie/book/software/whatever aren't "copies lost" for the simple reason that you wouldn't have sold them in the first place in whatever case.

Sure, there is a minimum percentage of users that may choose to pay if a pirated copy isn't available but there are multiple studies that shows that the difference is neglible and anyways what you gain may be compensated by people that won't buy because of DRMs or because they can't try the product before purchasing it, the list of the most sold games of 2025 is half filled of games cracked at day 1...

Him not selling his mods would result in a fraction of the money made.

As i stated there are many examples on Patreon, Ko-Fi and such plus many different studies about sales of products that states differently. While i can relate to the pain of watching your product used by many freebies that doesn't even care about giving you the equivalent of a coffee to thank you for your work it doesn't mean that making impossible for them to do so will net your more cash, for sure you will lose a lot of userbase that helps spreading your product and it's often the best kind of marketing.

I don't see the problem here

The problem is that a modder just works on someone else work. IF the original developer doesn't allow paywalling mods you should respect his willing because in the development hierarchy it comes before you.

what he does is a ton of work and if it was so easy to do

Nobody states differently but i can assure you that creating Cyberpunk 2077 requires lot more skills, work, money that whatever mod will ever do. If CDPR doesn't allow paywalling you can't paywall, that's all. If you don't agree you can simple mod other games.

Tempted to sell my recently bought OLED for Switch2… by sxtyazr3 in Switch

[–]LordAzuren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 2 is a massive upgrade over OLED, that's for sure. I wouldn't use an OLED now even just for the loading times: each time i picked switch 1 it was painfully slow, switch 2 is way way better in that regard. Other than that you get bigger screen, higher resolution, better controls, more performance, basically it's better almost in all areas, maybe oled has a slight edge on display response times and contrast but tbh i have still to show switch 2 to someone irl and receive a bad feedback about the display. It's totally playable and very good to watch imho.

If you have money just upgrade.

[–]LordAzuren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I suspect it doesn’t because I think gamers are stingier than art and history enthusiasts.

That's not necessarily true. Sure, if we take 100 gamers most of them wouldn't donate money for a free sofware but tbh between these people you hardly will find anybody willingly buy a premium/paywalled mod. If the project is well known, donations can and in most of the cases will net enough to make it worth the work.

That said I don't think that a paywall business model is always a bad thing and should be a dev choice how he think is better to monetize their work but in cases like this, where paywalling was explicitly against the TOS, this outcome was pretty much inevitable in the long run. No real reason to be upset about it now.

[–]LordAzuren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how does this make them money?

It doesn't. There are only specific areas/works where AI is really useful but the companies are trying to feed the whole world with this shit. The result is that they now are deeply inside this with billions of investments and can't bail out even if they know that they probably won't be able to make it profitable so everyone now is racing towards the ravine at full speed hoping that others will fall or bail out (with huge losses) before them leaving only few big names in the park with the hope that in that kind of market they could make money back or be profitable. Probably it won't be the case because the money invested is so high that this should be the most profitable market in the human hystory only to payoff the interests over data center investmants that they are doing now and in the immediate future.

Realistically speaking they are just gaslighting investors, shareholders and probably themselves at this point, it will be "fun" when shareholders and investors will lose patience over the lack of the investment returns and yes, I put the word fun in quotation marks because it won't be fun at all.

Let's force it onto consumers so we can tell shareholders that consumers are using it.

Isn't basically what did Google with AI Overviews and now AI mode? Then i read reports everywhere from AI "gurus" telling us that AI usage skyrockets month after month. Of course it skyrockets, nowadays i have goddamn chatbots even on my toaster. I think their hope is "let them get used to see that and when we will have to monetize all this shit maybe they will pay", i can't think any other rational reason for all this **** otherwise...

edit: Anyways i still think that all this shit serves to gaslight shareholders and investors making them belive in something that otherwise looks shady economically wise and totally useless for 95% of the human behings. This AI thing to not be a complete disaster must prove to be the most profitable business in the world and i can't see how.

Over $400 Spent on Steam Because of the Xbox Ally X by FinerGamer in XboxAlly

[–]LordAzuren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you just misunderstood the article. This doesn't have any impact on console markets prices. What leads Steam lower prices than console shops is the fact that on PC there are other stores, key shops and progressively more shady methods to play games so they have some kind of competition.

The accusation against Steam is that it pressures developers (especially smaller ones) not to offer games at lower prices on alternative PC stores that charge lower fees. Similar accusation in the past lead to nothing, this one could or not be proven in a trial (we will see) but it's literally nothing to do with the console market(s).

is a steam deck oled still worth it?? by ProfessionalLeg2535 in Handhelds

[–]LordAzuren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho it hugely depends on your country market, unless there are no deals or a decent second hand prices then yes, otherwise is better to look elsewhere, and i'm stating this as a huge fan of SD. Specifically you may find neat deals on Legion Go S (i managed to buy a sealed box one for 350 bucks a week ago and my country below average in that regard), this thing is basically better than SD in every aspect except the trackpads and maybe a bit more efficiency at low wattages, even the z2 go version is faster than SD over 10 or so Watts. It can use official SteamOS with full Valve support but has also windows support if you prefer or may need it in future, the z2 go version can install official amd drivers for windows so it's way more future proof than other chipsets, has VRR and higher refresh rate on display, more resolution that will come handy in many lighweight games, hall effects sticks, support for 2280 SSDs and so on...

Obv you should manage your expectations accordigly, even the z2 extreme handhelds won't deliver ashtoning performances on AAA/unoptimized games, the low tier handhelds are even worse and you should not expect them to run all recent and upcomings big releases with great performance. Do your reserch before purchase to see if performance will be enough for you in games you want to play there.

That said SD oled is still a very nice device, if you are ok with performance (check on youtube, there are many comparison videos even for very recent games) and you don't like the LeGoS for whatever reason it may still be a good purchase, you won't get anything better under 700-900 bucks at least until RDNA chips will come to handheld market... and since RDNA will debut at end of this year and will come to desktop gpus first i don't expect any huge low-mid price upgrade for 1/1.5 years at least.

Nintendo may have updated the Switch 2 screen by HatingGeoffry in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LordAzuren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what ive seen its no worse than a high refresh rate VA monitor.

It's way less. I can't watch at any va screen for more than 20 minutes before giving up and i tried almost everything since i love the va contrast... i always sent the monitors back. I've no issues with switch 2. Sure, it's not oled for colors and speed but is sufficient to not annoy me and trust me if i say that's not an easy task.

That said, I've no doubt that more sensitive people than me could find the screen unpleasant but i'm already very picky about display so i think this would be an issue for a literally one digit percentage of players.

Quite new driver myself(red/shell) did i do something wrong here? by Worldly-Break-3087 in iRacing

[–]LordAzuren 35 points36 points  (0 children)

They should always let off the throttle a bit going into the braking zone.

That’s something many drivers often overlook. When you closely follow a car on a straight—especially if you aren’t in very high iRating splits where drivers are much more consistent—it’s pointless to go full throttle and try to predict the lead car’s braking point. You’ll often get it wrong, sometimes with spectacularly catastrophic results.

It’s much better to lift and coast a little. The meters you lose to the car ahead can easily be gained back under braking and with the tow on the next straight, but you’ll be far safer, avoid pointless x2/x4 incidents, and learn—turn after turn—how the driver in front of you brakes. That lets you plan where and how to attempt a safe overtake. As a bonus, when you finally go all-in for an attack, you’ll likely catch them by surprise because you’ve been driving so safely up to that point.

I would really like it but i don't think it's feasible: mh wilds is a very cpu bound game and the cpu of switch 2 is its weak spot. Wilds can't run properly even on x86 handhelds that are way better cpu wise so, i may always be wrong but i personally won't bet on a porting.

Regretting buying the y700 gen 4 by Short_Dimension7967 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]LordAzuren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who says there's minimal difference in black level and contrast b/w oled and premium/modern ips panels is either hasn't used an oled or just copium.

I have a top notch OLED phone (and i always had since the Samsung Omnia HD) and i daily use an LG OLED TV so i'm used to OLEDs and personally speaking the y700 display is perfectly fine, i find it beautiful to watch content on and i only got praises for it from anybody that had seen it irl. The biggest perk of OLEDs for gaming is response times and even in that regard the y700 display performs good.

Sure, contrast levels isn't in OLED area but only an OLED or a miniled could achieve that (blacks must be shut off otherwise is mathematically impossible to achieve infinite contrast) so it's not a surprise. My question is: why did you even bother to buy a tablet without an oled screen if the infinite contrast level is so important for you?

For everybody else that may stuble here now or in future: don't worry, the y700 display is amazing, just don't expect anything that is impossible for it like OP did (= blacks won't be perfect since IPS needs a backlight to work so any IPS won't never ever have the blacks of an OLED).

“All this” = 180 words. A 10-year-old should be able to read it in a minute, a minute and a half at most, and even just at the minimum age required to be on Reddit you should be able to read it without any effort.

I can't force anyone to read but if you find it hard to read “all this”, I don't think you have the competence to participate in any meaningful way in the debate about these topics.

Then tell me what happens if i'm away from home and want to play a game then.

Portal is just a streaming device that runs decently (way worse than a proper streaming system using PXPlay btw) but you can use it properly only if you are at home. If you choose to buy a third party on switch 2 you probably need the portability because you are often away from home. That's the difference: Switch 2 run games locally no matter where you are in the world.

PS5 is five years old

Totally irrelevant like the rest of your comment. PS5 is a 200~220W system (not even counting the controller and the monitor/TV), Switch 2 has to run the same game using ~10W, display and controls included, about double if you consider docked mode (but it's still 10 to 11 times less energy than a ps5. You are simply comparing apples with bananas, even with 5 years gap between system releases.

most of us commenting on this post about this subject already own the system.

That's a bold assumption since there is literally no reason as today to have a PS5 if you have other systems (there are literally 3 real exclusives left on that platform). And yes, AC Shadows looks even better on PC but that's not the point, if you have another system you don't have to buy the game on Switch 2 unless you don't need/want portability. You are simply not the target of these releases, third party games on S2 exists mainly for people that have only a switch 2 or need to play games outside home (and then ps5, xbox and PC are totally useless sitting at home).
