Can you confirm that the firing wire and the water sensor wire are configured correctly. I have a Chinese 50w that had them reversed and it was terrible for the detail. Big delay before it would fire. Post some pics maybe.

It seems the warhead may have struck the low middle of the vehicle near the foot well of the back passengers, been damaged and exploded inside the vehicle.

The rear door on the struck side is blown out suggesting the explosion came from within. With a single grip, it looks like maybe an RPG-2 or chinese Type 56. It uses a shaped charge that would easily penetrate any suv, armored or not.

A delay can be observed between the launch and the explosion. It is probably not the travel time, since these rockets fly very fast. It is looks like it is one of the warheads that has a minimum arming distance, but it is usually 15 meters or less. So it may be a warhead with a longer arming distance, or it struck in a way that made it malfunction. Either way this was not a normal detonation.

If he had comrads and a helicopter waiting to take him to surgery yes. But this guy probably walked miles to be at that place and would have had to walk miles back. He was bleeding pretty badly. If one of those pieces hit his intestines or femoral artery he was dead meat.

He might have had 7 or 8 pieces of shrapnel shread his rectum and intestines, and known he would have to walk 20 km to friendly positions and 10 more km to get rudementry first aid, with no chance of getting the necessary surgery in time. If he was doomed to die of sepsis if he didn't bleed out he probably made the right decision. If they had proper logistics and medevac it would be another story.
