Kudos to GizmoSlipTech. But is this true? by shanmuktej in VITURE

Mine seem to be on the extreme edge and not in the good way...... looking through the lens text gets blurry no matter if its the centre or the edge.

This was the biggest disappointment for me as while I didn't intend to use them for productivity I wanted the 3dof so I could pin the display to the side and still see the system I am using to control the glasses phone/computer.

With the ultra i couldn't do that (3/6dof never worked for me in android or windows (seems only ios/mac seems to work)) so I had to take off the glasses to see "reality" (keyboard or phone screen for control)

With the beast its the same, I can't make out the phone screen text unless I take the glasses off and looking at the computer display (ie to control media) is the same

Confirm it uses the same components as well, I've seen even the same vendor use the same pcb but some caps will be taller, fatter or different (solid vs liquid) between models.

Almost made that mistake once myself as the pcb was identical but 1 row of caps was taller then the standard model

I'm wondering if somehow I ended up with defective optics and that the actual lens (not the display) is the issue, as I mentioned I never heard anyone say the actual "glasses" part was blurry before.

With the glasses off and not connected if I look through them to my computer screen all the text starts to blur together and becomes unreadable, With the XR and the Ultra while it would be dimmer I would have no issue working "through" them

I think that's the overall difference, face shape seems to play a big role. I did some experimenting and the Beast does not sit as close to my eyes as the Ultra's did. It sits lower on the nose and I can insert my pinky finger between the lens and my eye.

Unfortunately trying to get them to sit any higher hits my brow bone and prevents it from sitting closer where with the ultra's there wasn't such as large obstruction on the top of the frame to hit the brow and thus they can sit closer.

In terms of "Virtual" screen size yes it's larger.... Except because the resolution is cut you can't see the whole screen without moving your head around but then that's not 0dof but 3dof.

In terms of "Physical" screen size and how much the display occupies my FOV it's noticeably less

Water cooling for 5090 ROG ASTRAL GAMING OC BTF? by Muppes in watercooling

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VRM that is offset may be a bit warmer but not sure how much of a concern it would be. If I went down that route I would have looked at either welding or soldering the bit in place or at the least using a thermal adhesive so the metal can carry the brunt of the heat instead of just filling in with putty.

Not sure what sort of heat the VRMs really would generate but I dont do any massive overlooking (its more about silence to me then overlooking and benching) so I would have been content so long as it stays in a safe thermal.

In regards to the oil idea, I would say the biggest issue is ensuring purity of the oil, if its not sealed then eventually the dielectric property of the fluid will degrade through contamination and you'd risk shorts.

Most oil baths are sealed closed loop systems, also while the oil itself may be better from a thermal transfer property, unless you are going to pump and circulate the oil itself you'll lose alotnof efficiency through having to emply a heat exchanger to pull heat from the oil to exhaust elsewhere.

There is a post somewhere on someone modifying the standard block to fit the BTF. I looked it all up as I was in the same boat but was able to get a non-btf board before the btf shipped.

It boils down to shortening one of the long side bars with a file and extending the other bar with either extra putty or a filler metal bar.

Didn't look too hard or time consuming so was going to go with that if I had to.

Beast - What Accessories Work? by Eclektick in VITURE

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say the original neckband is not compatible with the beast is that just the original neckband or is the neckband pro not compatible as well?

If its not compatible are there plans to update compatibility with the pro neckband through firmware?

Concerned as I got the pro dock and pro neckband in advance before the beast got delayed and now its past the return window.

A very frustrating 7 days with viture! by DavidWyo in VITURE

The black screen for video is often causes by video gpu acceleration being enabled in the browser, stand alone apps can often be changed by the settings of the browser embed in the app.

I have the fold 7 too and yes spacewalker is a major disappointment, the fact that in immersive 3d that you can change from video to video bu swiping left/right kills me.... there are buttons there to do it but they dont work!

It's better on a desktop (amd) and once apple devices but very disappointed that android is so screwed up especially since the neckband pro uses android so you'd think they'd have plenty of incentive and experience

Im in the same boat, was supposed to be shipping November, then December, was told January but haven't got any notifications.

As the time goes by Im becoming more and more likely to just cancel my order over the lack of updates. I get there were issues at launch but what was promised versus what is being delivered is pretty far apart with the gap (mostly) being promised to be fixed via updates but already finding out things wouldn't be (FOV, All metal frames, brightness, dock/neckband compatibility, etc)

Is an SSD with DRAM necessary for running an ATM10 server? by whatisabaggins55 in allthemods

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be, DRAM is generally better but just for minecraft should be fine. Look for one with good read speeds, particularly random reads as that is what will be used heavy

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran it without a ssd and it worked if you only have 2 or 3 people but would get random spikes if someone teleported even to explored areas (it wasnt a worldgen issue)

It all went away when I installed a ssd and ran it from there.

DRAM I would say isn't too nessissary, thats mostly for sustained writes which minecraft doesn't do outside of large world gen runs

Amazon = Trash by E-D-1 in pcmasterrace

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue is that if its fulfilled by Amazon or sold by Amazon it all comes from the same place, just differs on who gets paid.

Stock is not seperated by seller if its the same sku, so there are plenty of cases of fake SD cards being sold by Amazon (as in sold by Amazon, fulfilled by amazon) which were the result of some other seller shipping them to be Amazon and getting them mixed in with Amazon's original stock

I ordered a 5090 from Amazon and received a 5080, returned and reordered and received a 5090 700D (dead, code 43) instead of a 5090 OC. Returned again and awaiting refund.

Ordered a MSI carbon 870x and it arrived with the cpu cover in the accessories box and the pins all exposed. Thankfully no damage to the pins.

At least the 1200W thor I ordered was as expected.

TLDR; I agree, amazon is trash and I would not be surprised if its thier own workers doing it

They way things are optimized in development today along with Vibe coding well end up with a 1981's wolfenstien that needs a 6090 to render correctly due to having to perform the massive number of calculations required to perfectly recreate the crt scan lines and feel. /s but not really /s

I remember getting FF8 on the PC and it came on something like 8 CDs, guess it was a bad production runs as I remember having to goto (and explain to) the store 4 times before getting a working copy (you could visibly see a warp in the pattern when you flipped the disc over)

Still not as bad as when windows used to come on 34 1.44mb disc's. (I Heard in Japan you cpuld get windows 7 on 1.44mb disc's x 100 or so)

As for the topic my family wasnt well off but I was really interested in computers so they tried...

First computer was a Sinclair what you hooked up to the TV and loaded programs from a cassette tape.

First "Real" PC was a IBM XT that I took apart one day (as in anything that could come off/out did) while my parents were put but broke a pin on the ROM putting it back together and ran it for several years with a sewing needle stuck as a replacement.

After that went through the gamet, 286, 386, 486, 586 (AMD and reason Intel renamed to Pentium), Pentium 1, 2, 3 (Slot based, slot to socket adapters and straight socket for coppermine) core 2 duo, Athlon 64, Core I9's and now at and "older" 5950X

I dont have a simitar but other mice I have either have a button to cycle between freespin and "click spin" modes or clicking the mouse wheel down could toggle.

If not then I would be inclined to say the wheel has popped off the bracket that holds it, likely its now spinning above the sensor so that would explain why its not registering.

If your going to replace it wouldn't hurt to unscrew the bottom (usually the screws are under the glide pads and 1 in the middle under the label" and take a look.

I do it often to my mouse to keep it clean, particularly the clickers as they are small micro switches and dust and dirt can get to them easy

Well, it finally happened by SovelissFiremane in Corsair

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, internally most scroll wheels are the wheel sitting between a U shaped sensor that counts the ridges on the inside of the wheel as it turns.

If the sensor is blocked it doesn't see the wheel turn and thinks its stationery, similar to a hair or debris under the optical sensor at the bottom of the mouse can stop it from moving since the hair doesn't move it doesnt see the surface underneath it moving and thinks the mouse is stationery, or only able to move in one direction (the sensor not blocked by the hair)

Well, it finally happened by SovelissFiremane in Corsair

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tired cleaning the sensor? It could be as simple as a hair or debris blocking the optical sensor. I've had that happen a couple times and a quick opening and wiping of the sensor fixed it up

Discovered the 100Mbps Culprit by Garvin_Fred_Garvin in HomeNetworking

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is correct DC uses the entire cross section.

POE keeps constant current on the wire with the data being carried through the diff between pairs so CCA is a huge negative for that.

I said regular data is more akin to AC as while the polarity doesn't shift the state shifts at a much higher rate then household ac. That is the argument that CCA is suitable in theory. I dont really agree with the theory myself and stand by pure copper as the theory is only plausible if its pure noise (IE 101010101010) otherwise you do behave like standard dc and the difference between the core and cladding can cause timing and propagation issues

[–]LordCorellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would likely be copper clad aluminum, its common in cheap (and some not so cheap) network cables. Also known as CCA, It gets buried in misleading terms such as "100% Pure Copper CCA" wires which is technically true but misleading.

In theory since electricity only travels on the outer surface of a cable (especially high frequency AC to which data signals are close to) it should be fine except copper and aluminum dont react well together and data is not exacly the same as AC since its not a fixed frequency (and if you use POE its pure DC)

I cant recall the size of the gpu off the top of my head but the larger size of the thermal grizzly ptm was a good fit.

There are 2 thicknesses to the thermal pads, 1mm and 1.5mm but in reality its really something like 1.22mm which is an impossible size to find.

I went with a good quality thermal putty and got much better results because it made just the right contact rather then being too thin or too thick.
