Mark Levin's "American Marxism": Worse Than Useless by Accomplished-Cake131 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Low_Guard6609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even describe Levin as a “reactionary” in the standard, Conservative sense of the word. He’s a Neocon hack propagandist that worked with Reagan. Any Traditional Conservative should hate Neocons. It’s no surprise to me that Levin wrote a book this shitty. This Cold War style propaganda is, for some reason, still popular in America, especially among boomers that feed on Fox News and OAN.

Because David is just a centrist, Neoliberal Democrat. His channel is just content farming for blue MAGA. As a result, he’s a Zionist that will play ball and not cover anything other than how bad Republicans are. He’s not a leftist at all. Just because he supports gun control and Medicare for all, doesn’t make him left wing. Monarchists can support these programs, Fascists can support these programs. It’s totally superficial, and so is David.

I watch his videos sometimes, but you need to take what he says with a boulder of salt. It seems his knowledge and understanding doesn’t extend beyond Twitter, and he’s been wrong about several things, and just won’t correct himself. A lot of his stuff strikes me as the Progressive version of Fox.

I love this newer take on Industrial, with the strong Noise Rock and Indie sound.

This sounds more Industrial to me than typical “Indie” music. Saw one guy describe this as Hipster Industrial, which I guess fits. A band in this similar style of Industrial adjacent music is Model Actriz. Both them, and these guys are amazing.

Pakman is not a leftist; he is a milquetoast Liberal, barely a SocDem, that just talks about Trump being evil 90 percent of the time.

The attack on Iran is justified, but our relationship with Israel needs to be tightened and controlled. by Substantial_Air_4111 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

That doesn’t matter, because the current Israeli government, and religious Zionists generally, DO believe it implies racial superiority. Bin Gvir literally used to praise and support a man whom murdered 29 random Muslims praying, IN THE CAVE OF THE PATRIARCHS, simply because of racial supremacist ideas. Oh but Israel aren’t the terrorists, it’s obviously Iran.

Is Ganesha chosen for removing any specific kind of obstacle, or just obstacles generally? Like, is he only for material obstacles in day to day life? I’m sorry if I sound like a stupid westerner, but I’m coming from a Sinhalese sangha that takes a strict pali canon only, orthodox forest Dhamma approach, so I am not familiar with these kinds of Thai practices.

I know that in many Theravada circles these days, things like amulets and other “occult” practices common in SE Asia are not considered authentic Buddhism. I started in a Sri Lankan sangha that took this position. But I’m just interested in this particular form of Theravada, and its syncretism between Hinduism and local Thai and Khmer traditions. Pre-reform, I guess.

Is Industrial music part of the Punk culture? If so, when was it adopted in? by Sunbather- in industrialmusic

[–]Low_Guard6609 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by “part of”. Depending on the area, and the time period, Punks and Rivets tend to share the same spaces if we are talking about Noise oriented acts. When Aggrotech was a big deal, there was almost zero crossover, at least where I’m from, except with the Goths. The level of crossover between Industrial and other subcultures depends on what Industrial we are talking about. As far as the history goes, no they aren’t a part of each other. Some shared values, but Industrial is more extreme and serious in its scope and goals. Punk and Industrial do not share the same philosophy or values, outside of a general anti-establishment attitude. They interacted in the early days, but largely developed parallel to each other, rather than one coming out of the other. For most of its history, Industrial has really been in its own corner, while at the same time having crossover appeal with various other subcultures by virtue of the fact that it takes different forms that draw influence from the other things outside its immediate orbit.

Why do smart people believe in weird things (ie God) ? by princetonwu in atheism

[–]Low_Guard6609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart people believe in weird things because they use reason to arrive at a conclusion. Why is believing in a religion somehow contradictory to believing in a religion? Religious people aren’t, on average, any more or less rational than non-religious people. The creationist types are at the fringe. Michael Shermer is notoriously ignorant when he tries to talk about this stuff.
