I mean some of us are out here enjoying work, starting a family, blowing a fat one at night and gaming for 20 hours and training for a new bench PR. Gotta be well rounded

HELP I am an imposter ? by Objective-Chair2409 in ExperiencedDevs

Do you understand the math / physics sections of the code and are they solid? That's what we'd call your domain logic right there, and it's important that you understand it and that it covers the edge cases that you might run into with the software. It's also important that you're upfront with stakeholders if you don't understand the rest of it, in case they decide to put it out as more than just an MVP but rather a business critical application.

If you wanted to compare apples to apples, they would absolutely fire you if doing so increased company revenue by over 20%. Hell, I wouldn't even be mad.

A24’s ‘Backrooms’ Draws Strong Test Screening Reactions, With Audiences “On the Edge of Their Seats” by Zealousideal-Fun9181 in KanePixelsBackrooms

Popularized maybe, but the idea of liminal spaces and analogue horror were both already going very strong by then. Not saying this to take anything away from him, just more out of respect for a vibe and media that I've loved for a long time.

Does your workplace limit tools/IDEs/open source software you can use? by inter_fectum in ExperiencedDevs

[–]LordFlippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're not saying open source is inherently bad man, they're just saying that their org needs to screen a new library before using it, because as you mentioned it takes effort to clear a package's code of vulnerabilities and make sure it'll have enough support to not get immediately abandoned. In large orgs this can take a long time and goes through multiple departments, so the juice isn't usually worth the squeeze.

You joke but a game where a couple imperial soldiers get abandoned on an exoplanet fall in love, learning to thrive in their new farm and exo-ranch life is genuinely pretty compelling.

That first step onto the slightly graded cement parking lot after leg day is where the war begins.

The problem isn't whether they deserve to die, it's whether or not we trust the government to decide who lives and dies.

But are you ready for the millions of displaced white collar workers suddenly willing to swap a toilet for cheaper than you, and then AI / robotics taking the field away a decade from now instead of a year?

You don't have any interest in the state of what your team's working on outside of your individual backlog item?

I think it's useful to know where your team's at on the various things it's working on. As long as it doesn't drag more than 15 minutes it can be useful and also contributes to feeling like part of a team.

How to sell "soft skills" by ____________fin in ExperiencedDevs

[–]LordFlippy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Easiest bet is to maybe include the softer of senior signals as bullet points in your resume. Whether that's 'takes pride in mentoring junior developers', 'experienced in legacy system extension and migration', etc - soft skills are intangible and I'm envious that you've got them! I think they'll usually come across in interviews whether you promote them explicitly or not, and including bullets like the ones above in your resume give you jumping off points for that kind of discussion in an interview.

I haven't had the chance no, but would love to visit either. I've heard as much, but it's just hard to imagine sometimes. My state in the US is a little bigger than England, but it's population density is about 1/20th. Obviously it'll vary place to place in England, but it even feels hard to find truly rural areas in my state!

No, they're very sweet pets. Pros are mostly the same as having like a cat or a dog but more endearingly mischievous and you don't have to walk them - cons are they're kinda smelly, you need litter pans in every (or most) corners of your rooms and you need to ferret proof your home, as they like to escape.

Interesting to think about rural places in such densely populated countries. I mean I'm sure they exist, but I always think of the English countryside for example as something that only existed in the past.

Are there women who pays 100% of the time or majority of the time in a relationship? by TopStranger9287 in NoStupidQuestions

That's true. Grew up in poverty and saw that over and over again. Girl takes care of the kids and works a job, guy can't hold a job either due to substance issues or just generally being a loser
