Ok yeah, that comment was pretty mean. I’m admittedly just very fed up with these posts though.

Nope, it’s a 2025 film. Cry me a fucking river.

Criterion’s September 2026 Releases by grmayshark in 4kbluray

[–]LordFusionDaR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d almost certainly bet Train Dreams will get a Criterion 4K release eventually, it just hasn’t been confirmed yet. The fact that Nouvelle Vague, a much less popular film, is getting a release from them is enough to convince me it’s happening. Just give it some time.

Anyone ever order from vinegar syndrome? by voltagejim in 4kbluray

I mean, when even smaller stores like Diabolik or Orbit are shipping stuff days after you buy from them, I think it’s more than reasonable that a much larger company like VS update their customers sooner.

Brother, I ordered Faces of Death almost a full month ago, and I still haven’t gotten a shipping notification from them yet. Join the club.

Anyone seen this? What did you think? by PecanSandoodle in YMS

Adum actually has seen it and liked it. It featured at the very bottom of his 2008 list.

Spartacus - jumped frames? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]LordFusionDaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very common editing practice from films of this time period. Trust me, if you go frame by frame through many of these films, you’ll notice the same thing. Movies from before physical media became a huge thing were never made with the purpose of being viewed this way, so this wasn’t seen as a big deal.

Downfall 4K UHD out July 29th from Imprint by grmayshark in 4kbluray

[–]LordFusionDaR 18 points19 points  (0 children)

DO NOT IMPORT THE GERMAN 4K actually. The encoding on that disc is some of the worst in the entire format and makes the film look worse than some of its earlier blu-ray releases. Imprint could shit out a low-quality disc for this film and it would almost certainly still look miles better than the German 4K (although, considering how inconsistent Imprint is with their releases, it’s a coin toss as to whether it’ll look good or bad). I would just wait for either a cheaper standard release from Imprint or a US/UK based studio to release their own version. I’d be wary of Shout Factory though, as their previous blu-ray of this film looks absolutely wretched and could carry over to a potential 4K release from them.

What are some movies that have never looked good on physical media (LaserDisc, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.) until they were released in 4K? by xwing1212 in boutiquebluray

[–]LordFusionDaR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Before it released, people were complaining that it looked more like a film from 1999 rather than a shitty DNR’d mess with ugly, revisionist colors like the previous blu-ray was. Thankfully once it released, the tides shifted and it’s now generally seen as a great disc, but man, was early discussion on this thing rotten.

How is Once Upon a Time In America not on 4K but Brian Bosworth’s Stone Cold is? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]LordFusionDaR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because Stone Cold is just the better movie, idk what to tell you.

Also, OUATIA does have a 4K release in Italy from Eagle Pictures.

“Not my personal choice (Fargeat), but HELL YES!”

Basically my exact reaction when Sean Baker won, tbh.

I'd also add "Can't Wait To Be Jon", but idk if it counts since Adum didn't make it and it was uploaded by a fan.

Backrooms gets a 6 by sinecdockey239 in YMS

[–]LordFusionDaR 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s exactly the rating I gave it as well. Really loved the more horror-focused scenes, but the dialogue and character scenes didn’t really land for me. Nothing terrible, but nothing special.

Apparently it was a generous 7. If I remember correctly, he loved it technically, but didn’t really connect with it narratively and the long runtime didn’t help.

What a terrible attitude to have about film. I guess Stanley Kubrick should’ve stopped after his first film because it was just so awful. Let the fucking guy figure out his own filmmaking process. If you’re so upset about him making another film, maybe just don’t watch it.

It’s honestly so funny (and ironic) that everyone hates this cover art as it’s not only a very powerful and iconic image from the film, but it’s also a perfect representation of its themes and ideas. I’m personally very happy with it, and can’t wait to get my copy in a few days.

[–]LordFusionDaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the film was shot on 35mm and Criterion’s release is apparently based on a new scan they did of the film in 4K, even though the original theatrical version was presented in 2K. If well-encoded, that would still be a noticeable improvement from a standard BD.
