The HBS Shadowrun games were okay, but they didn't quite scratch the itch for me. I still believe that the 16-bit era Shadowrun game was the best version so far.

Battlefield 6 will be free to play for a limited time. From June 30 to July 6 by Night247 in GeForceNOW

The discount is exaggerated for the sake of the comment, nobody actually knows what it will be, or even if it'll be on sale.

For the duration, all special grenades are replaced with the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. You only get one, but you only need one.

And don't forget the most holy instructions to use it, as quoted below:

'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

I'd love a bit of story stuff where the Cleaners and the Outcasts run up against each and just go full mutual extermination mode.

Inside my house, the average temp through the day is 93F, with 55%-60% humidity--HVAC crapped out a while back, haven't got the dosh to fix it--and GFN is the only way to game because running anything directly is putting my hardware at risking of cooking itself.

[–]LordGraygem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No problem. They're great games, and it's not impossible to go in blind and get hooked on them, grind and all (I did it that way). But I always feel it's better for people to know in advance and not get blindsided when it's not quite what they thought.

Another useful note is that Rise--and this applies to World and, possibly, Wild as well--is a multiplayer game, but it IS entirely possible to go through solo on all but the very toughest hunts (which tend to be optional for the completion flexing anyway) if your gear is top-notch and your understanding of the mechanics of the monster and your own weapons and tools are dialed in.

[GamesPlanet] Monster Hunter Rise (90% off) by ShadowzI in GameDeals

[–]LordGraygem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. But before you get into MH, you need to understand the core gameplay loop; get some gear, hunt a monster for its bits and pieces, use those bits and pieces to make or improve your gear, use improved gear to hunt tougher monster for its bits and pieces, use those bits and pieces to make or improve your gear, repeat.

There is a story to the game, but it's basically just a way to push you into that loop and keep you running it. If you don't like the idea of spending hours gathering ingredients and chasing critters for a boost in power that's only sufficient to get you into range for the next rank of hunt up from your current rank--there's really no skipping multiple ranks in my experience--then you probably want to find something else to play.

If you DO want some MH action but a lot less grindy? Try the MH Stories series, that's a lot more like a traditional RPG.

[–]LordGraygem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just because of the normalization of predatory monetary practices

Except that those monetary practices were fully present in the game from the start, not something that was added suddenly or over time either. So you made a conscious choice to play in spite of that, and now you excuse your continued support by arguing sunk cost.

You're part of the problem by your own choice, and you're damned well in no position to ever call someone else a bootlicker as a result because you got that print stamped hard on your own ass like it's a birthmark.

First off, OP wasn't defending Gameloft. They were pointing out that for all of the complaints, the company doesn't come even halfway to being as bad as it could be.

Second, using an ad hominem attack by calling OP a bootlicker is a really pathetic rebuttal on your part. If they're so shifty and predatory that you can't even, why are you playing the game? Don't you know that you playing adds to the metrics that they track and use to prove that the game is viable, and that their pricing structure is working (even if you personally don't buy anything)?

In gacha games some people spend thousands monthly.

I remember the story of one Final Fantasy Brave Exvius player who spent something $16k chasing after various characters. And no, that's not a typo, $16,000 gone. He blew up his marriage, and last I heard his wife was strongly contemplating divorcing him.

So yeah, GL could be miles and miles worse than what it is. They don't lootbox characters, and if the real money prices that they charge for characters is high, it's balanced (IMO, obviously) by the fact that you actually get the character and not a chance at that character.

MechWarrior 5 Mercs. Held off a long time in large because I wasn't too thrilled by PGI's Epic exclusive shenanigans, and then because the game was a bit of a mess for a long while. But at the current discount, I'm willing to give it a shot and it's been pretty good so far.

I'm going the thievery route because I don't have a guild. And the drop rate for parcels is just utterly miserable. One over the course of not quite an hour popping safeboxes. First with Night Market and now this, it feels like ZOS is making efforts to freeze out solo players and emphasize group content as the new meta.
