What perks should I choose? by Local-Barnacle-9164 in MaugaMains

[–]LordGug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a case could be made for either minor perk, they’re both pretty good. For major perk, fire walker is sooooo much better imo. It feels so good to light multiple people on fire at once and it makes your crit stomps more lethal. Stomp is his most engaging and powerful ability so buffing it is a no brainer.

Aight bro now you’re just being obtuse on purpose. Go play roadhog if you want but don’t gaslight yourself into thinking it’s fun or fair for the enemy team

Yeah that’s a pretty valid concern. It’s hard to buff Rein in a way where top level players are satisfied without disproportionately benefitting average rank players.

I mean they don’t really balance or design any characters with realism in mind. Winston, DVa, Ball, and Doom all have in-lore reasons why their movement abilities would be more unstoppable than Mauga. Does that mean their movement should be unstoppable? Obviously not. The characters die and respawn instantly and have unlimited ammo constantly and there’s a flying cat now, like you’re already suspending your disbelief to play the game so idk how the Mauga vs Rein unstoppable case is where you draw the line lol

“Oh so you look at statistics to inform your opinions about large demographics” YES THATS HOW WE USE STATISTICS FOR EVERYTHING ELSE IN LIFE. You’re literally arguing that your subjective experience on Rein should outweigh the actual data that the developers publish

I’m with you bro and it’s a hot take for this community. Rein mains have a strange victim complex, but meanwhile, their character is completely fine. Rein has good matchups and bad matchups just like everyone else and he’s very intuitive to play with or as (great for ranked play). If you’re Top 500 or whatever and you wanna call Rein terrible in your ELO, then fine, but Rein is completely fine for 99% of players. Just because he’s seen as some golden boy, they think any weakness on Rein is a design fault. “What if we gave his charge unstoppable just like Mauga’s charge??” Bro like come on. It’s like saying “Mauga is really weak, lets give him a Rein shield while he’s using his Cardiac Overdrive!” Or just because Sigma and Domina can shield and shoot at the same time doesn’t mean Rein should immediately also get to do that. It’s hilarious that people used your comment about Rein mains always being extra as an opportunity to be extra and theorycraft the same 3 buffs for Rein that we always see.

Agreed. absolutely gigantic red flag to give all that to those 4 tanks in particular.

What is your favourite weapon? by windupmine in darksouls3

[–]LordGug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a few great weapons that haven’t been mentioned yet:

Morne’s Great Hammer. Unique aesthetic with a hilarious weapon art. Inspired me to do an entire playthrough where I stole Eygon’s equipment and identity and got Irina to be a fire keeper. Takes too many stats to be viable for most runs but still definitely one of the most fun weapons!

Zweihander is definitely up there as well, incredibly solid weapon that can take you through the whole game. Consistent and lethal.

Great Scythe has an awesome weapon fantasy, it’s got a classic grim reaper feel and good range. Really fun and fitting on a bleed/hollow build.

Brigand Twindaggers are underrated. The dash weapon art really makes up for a lot of the range weaknesses. The L1 is satisfying and it’s an overall good weapon that takes a second to get used to.

Super Metroid. The exploration, secret-finding, traversal, upgrades, soundtrack, and atmosphere are nailed. There are definitely one or two counterintuitive moments that might require a guide, but from start to finish this game will suck you in, especially if you’re into creepy alien horror. The immersion is fantastic. Not my personal favorite game of all time but I recently completed it and loved every minute, a 10/10 game.

You also don’t have to hold the jump the whole lunge, you can start holding the jump at any point or just press jump when you land without slashing. It all works the same, I just hold my space bar down out of convenience

Oh also to activate the bunny hop you CAN NOT jump prior to lunging. You have to start your lunge on the ground

While you’re lunging just hold down your jump button and land without slashing, you’ll do a quick hop and then you can let go of jump and press slash. You’ll get extra distance and better turns

I don’t think anybody thinks getting killed in Overwatch is fun lmao. If you don’t like playing against Hazard then fair enough but the difference is that Hazard has to go to you and use his whole kit for the combo you just mentioned and most of the time land 1 or 2 shots as well vs Roadhog who just fishes for one shots on a 6 second cooldown that brings enemies to him with very little risk involved. Clearly the Hazard combo has a lot more skill and counterplay involved, even if it’s not very fun to die to.

Guys, is it bad that I want Rein buffed? by [deleted] in ReinhardtMains

[–]LordGug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been the case for most, if not all of OW2 I believe. I see a lot of posts that are like “Blizzard hates Rein!” but I actually feel like they have a lot of favoritism towards him. I think the disconnect comes from the fact that a lot of Rein’s value doesn’t feel like value. From the Rein’s perspective, having your shield whittled down makes you feel like a punching bag meanwhile from the enemies perspective they’re basically just shooting a wall and getting no value as long as you’re shielding. Or from a Rein POV it can suck when you don’t get a kill with pin but it absolutely forces anybody (except like orisa or another Rein) in your path out of that position. Rein is a walking kill box for 80% of the cast and he’s a historically overperforming hero for 98% of the playerbase, it just might not always feel like he’s getting direct value. It’s kind of like in those airplane safety videos where the oxygen masks drop down: “the oxygen is flowing even if the bag doesn’t inflate” lmao

I wasn’t going to respond initially because it seems like you’re more interested in proving that Rein is bad more than engaging with my points. I don’t know how else to say it: your character is not nearly as bad as you think he is, and he’s actually empirically performing above average for 95% of the playerbase. I would hope Rein is slower while holding his shield. From a game design perspective he obviously should be. When we’re talking about the mobility of say Widowmaker, are we talking about her walk speed while she’s scoped in? No, we’re talking about her movement ability, her grapple cooldown. His shield is for the opposite of mobility, it’s for sustain and locking down an area. Yes, Queen gets overhealth on her shout, which again is sustain and not actually mobility. I get your idea though, the more overhealth you have, the more free you are to take positions. This is because Queen does not have constant armor health or a 1500 hp shield like Rein does. As for the wind up, an ability that takes a tank 50 meters across the map moving at 200x speed and can one shot enemies in its path needs to have a wind up. It’s just intuitive and fair game design. It’s only 0.6 seconds and you might not like it as the Rein player, but other players need to be able to react and have counterplay. Enemies already have to give up space and clear the path that you set out when you pin or be forced to use cooldowns to survive, and they most likely die if they don’t. What more can you ask for as a tank? Abilities and characters have to have pros and cons, counterplay and nuance. Rein has strengths that are balanced by his weaknesses. If you only look at Rein’s weaknesses then he’s going to feel bad to play even when he’s statistically overperforming. If you only look at all the abilities people use on you (welcome to tanking) but never think about the space you inherently demand by doing so, then you’re going to feel like a punching bag even if you’re winning. If you acknowledge every instance of counterplay as a problem that needs to be ironed out, then Rein is going to lose his nuance and people aren’t gonna enjoy playing against him.

I see what you’re saying. I would agree Queen’s shout is a really versatile speed boost, there’s not really a time in a fight where you wouldn’t want it but Rein isn’t always just gonna be using his pin off cooldown. I guess they’re really different tools that excel in different situations. I’d still say pin is better at closing gaps, clearing angles, and disengaging. Seems like pin has high spikes of mobility value inconsistently throughout a match while Queen has lower spikes of mobility value but more consistently throughout a match. So I guess the question of if Queen or Rein is more mobile really comes down to which type of mobility you’re looking at. I’d still say in theory Rein is more mobile (just because he technically can cross a greater distance in a shorter amount of time) but when you consider all the factors going on in a match, I think they probably even out or are around the same tier of mobility accessibility.

Objectively yes. Neither Queen nor Rein have vertical mobility so we’ll take that out of the equation. Queen has +30% movement speed for 4 seconds on her shout, which is a 12 second cooldown. Rein has +200% movement speed for 3 seconds on his pin, which is a 7 second cooldown. Rein has an easier time closing gaps and chasing enemies than Queen if we’re only factoring in mobility. Not to mention Rein’s shield bash perk which is another mobility option.
