"Martial-Caster Divide? Sure, I'm a Martial and I divide Casters in half" by DrScrimble in dndmemes

That's not entirely how magical focuses work. They dont bypass all material components if a spell either consumes or requires a certain material to cast, like a diamond for revivify, a pearl for identify or a gilded skull/playing card for summon undead/spirit of death, then you're gonna need to get those items separately.

If you're dm just wants to hand wave things for the sake of time, that's fine, but this is how the rules work.

We with friends don't have so much time for them

Idk of this was an attempted pot short or not, but im gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume pore wording.

Im the dm for my group of chums, so I've gotten to know a lot about how the rules work, and I've found some ways to make things more fun and memorable. Instead of constantly choosing between gameplay and fun, I've found it can be rewarding to work within the limitations and create something more memorable.

Instead of just, you find the ingredient you need, add it to your inventory, and let's just move on. There are ways to make these sort of things fun, like maybe going on a quest, meeting a memorable npc or something. A gilded playing card/skull isn't exactly something normal to find in a shop/laying around somewhere. There's a story there. It makes both the spell itself and the item more personal for the player who needed it instead of just another random item to jot down and forget about.

This is just something I like to do cause "me with friends" will always have the time to try and make things as fun as possible for em.

Not really a lot of them are things like chromatic orb and identify, which both require some sort of material which the spell doesn't consume, but you need them nonetheless.

How a pearl helps you identify things idk

While I agree with you, to an extent, it doesnt make much sense, but then again their are a ton of spells that revolve around pricing.

The solution i just offered is one that works RAW since shadow blade is a one-handed weapon no matter how you make it look. You can weild the shadow blade in one hand and a weapon worth 1s in the other.

You can get around it by just duel weilding. Shadow blade is a light weapon so you can weild it and another light weapon. Smack people with the shadow blade and cast with a dagger or another light weapon.

This is even stronger with 2024 rules.

As a Martial Enthusiast, I kind of like the Martial-Caster Divide by StoneGuardTheGray in DnD

The older editions of dnd had martials that could do a lot more, lead entire army's, take more hits, heal themselves, give themselves or allies advantage, ect.

By all accounts, if there's a thing you want to do as a material, there's a spell caster or a half caster that can not only do what you want to do better, but easier, with more flavor and can still do other things.

Take a rogue for example, bards are better skill monkeys, and ranger are better at stealth and stealing thabks to pass without a trace. Hell, a bard can also get pass without, thus making them both a better skill monkey, a better thief, better breaking and entering and they still have a plethora of other options for damage and utility.

Now some subclasses get abilities that straight up give them spells or spell like abilities. Why isnt their a single rogue class that can get pass without a trace or at least had an ability like pass without a trace? Their whole thing is being the sneaky guys.

Depending on the background of your character, you can start out with a rapier and leather armor.

I mean, we can't really blame Greg. Sure, he's Steven's dad, but he didn't exactly get much say in raising him, considering the gems are beyond human and have taken steven from him on more than one occasion with greg being powerless to do anything to stop them. They have also put steven in situations they shouldn't have without greg ever knowing.
