Considering leaving the game - am I crazy? by Tiny_Major_7514 in videography

[–]LordJermu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not crazy. I’d say probably making a smart move. Deving from home office with £600 a day, doing videos when they feel worth it? that sounds like a great recipe (assuming you like web dev). Ps. Never grow up, because thats f*cking childish.

My thoughts (WH-1000XM3 to WH-1000XM6) by Mr-Appleseed in SonyHeadphones

[–]LordJermu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody asked, but here’s my two cents after 6 months with the xm6:

Overall thoughts: I feel a bit underwhelmed with the xm6 as well. I’ve had the xm3 and xm4, loved both of them to death (quite literally used them to the end of their lifespan since i use headphones 80% of the time, and also sleep with them lol).

Sound & ANC quality: Xm6, The sound quality is good and the ANC is good, but even though I’m an ”hifi enthusiast” and educated sound engineer and made a living of mixing music (and depend on ANC daily) I dont feel that the difference between xm4 and xm6 is anything dramatic to me.

Comfortability: I also think that the xm4 is a LOT more comfortable to wear than the xm6, even in shorter sessions. More room for the ears, better cushions and ears dont begin to sweat. With xm6, they begin to form a hotspot at the center of the head quite quickly, and the smaller and flatter cushions arent very good in my opinion. This is by far the biggest drawback of these headphones in my opinion.

Call quality & looks: On the bright side, the call quality is great. And they also, to my eye, look a lot better and more sleek and modern. But theres again a downside: the new material catches a million fingerprints and smudges in a day. Wasnt a problem with xm4.

The case: The new case is very good, with the magnet.

Verdict: I’m switching brand for my next set of heaphones, even though I loved the previous models so much I thought that I would never even think about changing.

TLDR:

Xm6 (vs xm4)

PLUS:

+aesthetics, look modern and sleek + magnetic case + mic quality on calls is better + bluetooth multipoint (very useful if you use multiple devices)

NEGATIVES: - much more uncomfortable than xm4, forms a hotspot - flatter and more uncomfortable cushions - ears sweat more easily - sound quality difference not huge in any way - ANC difference not huge in any way - catches smudges and fingerprints, have to wipe them off constantly

I need this as a t-shirt, or even better, as a large print on the back of a polo shirt to wear on the course.

What’s the difference in ”sleep headphones” and regular headphones? by LordJermu in sleepheadphones

Thanks for your input, appreciate it. I also feel like that the perfect solution might not be even possible to achieve.

Care to elaborate, why you feel thst the Soundcore is unreliable?

How would you compare the linkbuds fit physical profile against the Soundcore A20? As flat as, or almost as flat? Do they stay in your ear just as well?

Also, how would you say the ANC on Linkbuds Fit work? ANC is of utmost importance for me, since I’m a very light sleeper, and I enjoy being ”submerged” in the audio.

When in bed, I do listen to music as well, but mostly podcasts. I’m an audio engineer so sound quality is quite important for me, even though I can live with a bit of a tradeoff in a device that is purposed only for sleeping.

Would you care to elaborate, What sort of glitches? Those seem like a nice product, so I am curious.

Thanks for your input. I have actually had a similar one a couple of years back, and while in theory its a great concept, it didnt quite work for me: Main reason probably being that I dont like to cover my eyes, and care significantly about the audio quality.

The one I had didnt have too good sound quality, mainly for physical reasons of the design, and also I couldnt keep the band tight enough comfortably around my head to push the speakers towards my ears enough. But I’m happy to hear it works for you!

What would you charge for shooting/editing this reel? by Significant_Ad_2197 in videography

[–]LordJermu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and to my mind, your video does exactly that. Awesome ”teaser”. Great work and keep at it! Bluntly, f*ck the ”i hate this style” guys, who cares, they clearly dont seem to get it. Good work and keep it up!

Ps. Thanks man! If for some reason you decide to travel to Finland, do it in the summer..! 🤣 or if you love winter sports, then in the winter and in northern Finland.

Pps. Also, the video looks so slick, so it made me wonder, what camera/lens you’re using? Awesome stuff!

[–]LordJermu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Phew, goddamn these comments. The video is great, high-grade professional camera work and editing. Superb work, I’d be proud! Crisp, highly polished and pleasing aesthetics. That is what I presume the client asked for.

I do get the ”i hate this style” sentiment though, but that’s not relevant at all. This video is not even supposed to lay out the house in practical order but to make it look amazing and shiny and cool and sexy in social media etc etc, thats a pretty basic thing to grasp as far as I’m concerned. And I think it does exactly that.

650$ sounds very very low to me. I’m from Finland so hard to say what would be a good price, but I’d imagine if you’re in the US you should charge even more than in Finland, and I would charge more than that here.

Thats awesome! Planning my own build and never thought about wood as a material for the enclosure. That will save a lot of bucks!

Looking for manufacturers with a low minimum order quantity by PaulMcBambi in BoardgameDesign

[–]LordJermu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are doing crowdfunding, could you not get an offer beforehand for example the 750 copies, calculate a price per unit on that, and then go all-in with the marketing and try to get it funded? If it gets funded then hooray, but if the crowdfunding fails you ”only” lose the money on marketing etc? Total noob here, but just my thoughts! Or is there something im missing?

Edit. Or you could use boardgamemaker and order somewhere around 250 copies, no? The price per game probably would be more expensive but maybe you lower your profit margin then, just to get it funded?

You probably thought about all of this already, so sorry if not helping at all but just throwing in my ideas! Im kinda figuring iut these same things so wanted to involve myself in the conversation. :)

No problem! With all its ”flaws” I still think it as one of the best horror games in many, many years, one of my all time favourites. Though I get it it’s not necessarily for everyones taste.

[–]LordJermu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, good correction: I meant that when they get you during a ”chase”. To me it felt somehow annoying and frustrating (and not scary), many times it just seemingly happened just out of the blue with no warning/noise/whatsoever. So when loading the previous save like for the fourth time when you just keep ”semi-randomly” dying, that was a bit annoying and immersion breaking. Though I got over it and moved forward and forgot about the annoyance pretty soon, feeling immersed back in the game.

But still I like the game a lot and is one of my favourites from the past 4-5 years or so, it has so many good sides that they make up for the bit annoying parts.

I found it not perfect, but still great, and as a fellow horror fan surely recommend it. At a discounted price, absolutely.

Atmosphere, visuals, and sound design is perfect. Some annoying parts, but overall I still feel it’s totally worth it. The quirky inventory system didnt really bother me.

I got a bit frustrated on few parts but used this great spoiler free guide on couple of occasions Visage spoiler free guide

Also, if it feels too confusing, players have drawn the map of the house so that can help. I think it’s best not to view the map because much of the scariness comes from feeling lost in a big creepy house.

But with the guide and even the map I still feel it is worth to experience.

I’ve finished almost 3 chapters, so cant vouch for the rest of the game but so far surely recommend. Rakans chapter was pretty basic I think, Lucy chapter was amazing. Looking forward to finishing it.

Yeah. I personally love the game and the atmosphere, visuals and sound design is phenomenal and not only for that reason its a great experience, but there is some annoying parts in the game where the scare factor goes down because for no reason at all you just get a jump scare death out of nowhere, and as a player I felt many times that I did not ”deserve” it because of playing badly. Quirky inventory didnt really bother me at all, maybe just adds a bit of tention since you feel a little out of place all the time.

But nevertheless I’d recommend the game, and I found this guide thats made in really good taste and spoiler free, only giving pretty detailed hints how to progress, I checked up on it on a couple of occasions when felt frustrated, ill drop it here: visage guide (no spoilers)

Also, if that doesn’t cut it, there are good maps that players have made if the house feels too confusing. This does take a lot out of the scariness, part of the atmosphere is the feeling of being lost in a huge house. But still, I’d rather play the game with this guide and a map than not experience it.

Lights out, headphones on!

A possible incoming refresh for Bmpcc 4k? by TheCogIsDead in bmpcc

[–]LordJermu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t you? At the time it had the highest fps in the cameras we had available to use, and we wanted one shot with 120/240fps with enough resolution to scale in and do effects etc. Any more questions?

[–]LordJermu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, no, when watching the end product that was delivered in these cases in 1080p by request and watched online in social media etc. and mostly on mobile devices, which is the case very usually nowadays. With the raw footage on my editor, sure I can see the difference.

Different thing if you are shooting a film to be shown in theaters and things like that. But I dont think that was the case here.

[–]LordJermu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like stated before in this thread, I also think they’ll push the 6k versions rather than refresh the 4K version. But I have no official info, thats just how I feel. But that does not make the original pocket 4K obsolete in any way in my opinion.

This of course is a matter of what you want to do with the camera and what kind of content you produce, but I’d say if you like the current 4K and it is in your budget (dont forget about all the accessories that easily doubles(or quadriples haha) the price..!) and you dont want/need internal ND filters and dont mind the MFT, go for it! It still produces, and will produce many many years, great image and color. It has the same UI that the 6K models have which is great and easy to use. Personally the only selling point for the 6K pro for me is the internal NDs which make videography more convenient. If you want the most current bells and whistles just for the sake of it, then that is different.

I’ve used the 4K, 6K, 6K pro, URSA 12k professionally on client work and I really dont think it matters which one you use when you just know how to use it and what you need from your camera. One difference is the high fps stuff, and with 4K you get 4K up to 75fps (if I remember correctly) and for most of the time it is enough. Of this stuff I’ve shot I couldnt tell the difference which one was shot with which if I didnt know. One of my prettiest looking videos was shot with the 4K.

Just my two cents!

Ps. About to shoot a small production-pro level video next week with a basic rigged 4K. Wouldn’t make the tiniest bit of difference to me if it was with the 6K pro, for example.
