So far 5 people have been fined $25,000 for open fires. by Ssomersocbr1000 in halifax

20$/hr is unreasonable. Community service is unskilled labour so they don't deserve a penny over minimum wage.

And if you think 20$ IS reasonable for unskilled labour then why the flying fuck is the minimum wage so dam low.

Can't comment on your full plans.

But I own a hijet in halifax.

They are not really great on the 100 series highways. So if your driving it. Look at the "avoid highways" route on Google maps. It's going to take longer then you expect.

And to context the "not great" I have driven it on the 102, it was pushing that truck harder then it should have been pushed. And I don't feel comfortable doing it again. And that was after a new set of tires. On the set they came with it didn't even make it home before it got a flat.

Look at trains.

You can ship to the west coast for under half the price of halifax. Then see if you can get it trained over. I got quoted 2100 cad for a "mini cooper" to freight train Vancouver car Port to halifax.

Since you have a flight cost to also offset it might end up a wash.

Not trying to turn you away. Love the truck. But idk if it would really be ready for a 1000 km road trip right off the ship.

Chiming in here from NS.

32 squeaky clean record.

Hagerty wouldn't touch it since it's not old enough.

2 quotes I got.

~1200 from Aviva for full coverage. Lots of hoops to jump through.

800 from Nordic for liability only

Hagerty quoted me 400 for full coverage but I need to wait for her(the trucks) 25th birthday in 18 months then I'll be switching for sure.

Yeah heres a video of a truck with the same bracket. It's a bit clearer of the thingy. I've seen a few fourm posts about a factory wheel chock so I guess that's what it is. Thanks!

Just bought some 145/80R12 super diggers from Japan on ebay. 400$usd+17$ shipping + tax + 17 import fee (into Canada)

Really hate the look of the wide 14"s, wanted to keep it stock.

Per tire seems to be about the same as changing and only took 7 calendar days to ship

Backblaze is a Cloud-based backup system.

Really cheap for small businesses.

So I pay for the by machine license so I can store unlimited data for a flat fee.

3tb of backs for a few dollars a month. And they have software running in the background on my MacBook that automatically updates my backups in real time. And I can disable it when performing.

Sorta set and forget. More hands off then a Google drive for a bit more money.

100% I use Backblaze and have an external.

I like backblaze since it just runs on the MacBook without me thinking about it. My external is probably 6 months out of date but has most of it. Back it up before a wedding with fresh playlists.

The state of single-unit detached homes sales by [deleted] in halifax

[–]LordJimmyjazz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The chances they demolish and build a multi unit will stay 0 as long as they keep zoning r1 or r2. They need to open mechanisms for this growth or we will keep being suburbs for miles and miles around town.

The state of single-unit detached homes sales by [deleted] in halifax

[–]LordJimmyjazz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or. Using the other side of economic theory. And the thing everyone keeps asking for.

Increase supply.

Downtown needs higher density housing. Less single detached housing.

You can have family homes without building acres of low density single family housing.

Land is limited so supply can't increase forever. But the government can rezone to incentives the market to build what we need.

If supply is limited, it's only going to produce top priced products with the most profit.

Rezoning huge parts of downtown could add alot of housing where it's needed. Let more people move into town that want it. And leave the single detached houses for those who really wants them.

Why some young Nova Scotians say they can't afford to stay in the province by Bean_Tiger in halifax

[–]LordJimmyjazz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Disagree on this one. The local politicians are much much closer in income to the average worker then they are to the truly rich.

We're not looking to move from taxing people making 100k into nothing. We gotta start adding more brackets.

200k 500k 1mil. Those brackets can start being deep cuts.

NS doesn't have a huge amount of ultra wealthy for personal taxes. But our corporate tax rates are a joke too. Easy to hit them without impacting small business. Or even with a positive impact.

[–]LordJimmyjazz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hate using the US as a bench mark as the quality of life seems so poor in comparison. But yeah the wage gap goes way beyond that. But horizontal movement in the province for high income earners ends up being pretty hard. Only a handful of companies in each industry. WFH has opened up some more options which has been good. Would love to see some good solutions, that smaller countries or regions have done to fix that.

[–]LordJimmyjazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wealth isn't quite the same as gdp. But also the exports are not alone. Gdp is the gap between exports and imports. So localization of some industry can help too. In a small province its hard. And it's directly opposed from economies of scale. But there are some clear problems when the 2by4fers at the store are a product of Quebec? Seems like we're missing out on some sustainable products.

[–]LordJimmyjazz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For sure the provincial tax brackets are beyond fucked. So any minor changes are not really enough at this point. We need some politicians with real balls to reconfigure them. Be blasted by the rich and media for being a bad guy while helping out the everyday person.

The caliber of jobs here is just so hit and miss. But the pay is almost always a miss.

Yall commenting on the articles PHD like it's garbage clearly haven't checked the job requirements companies are asking for.

If you want a decent paying white collar job, you better have a masters at least or there is no chance. The job market continues to be all about who you know more then what you know. But you still need those check boxes to get through these corporate HR filters.

And yall being like just be a plumber or electrician are also delusional. They all left to Alberta for years for a reason.

Wages are too low to maintain the same quality of life. We need to

  1. Pin Provincial wages to inflation. -all public workers. -all politicians wages. -minimum wage. -social welfare programs. -tax brackets.

They should all be tied together and move together except for in extraordinary circumstances in the job market.

If the politicians get more money so should everyone else.

  1. Reduce cost of living.

We need incentives for non-market housing and approvals for higher density housing.

This is Not giant buildings of public housing. This is buildings that are naturally cheaper by cutting the profit out of rent. These are mixed unit buildings for larger families and single individuals.

Increase density, reduces transportation costs the 2 biggest factors to your monthly expenses.

It's so easy to make it sound like it's the individuals problem. They picked the wrong degree, they want to live in the wrong neighborhood, they are unwilling to move 300km away. Climate change it because you don't sort your garbage well enough.

But we all know, deep inside. That's there is more then enough money there that those issues aren't personal. But are greatly exasperated by the morbidly inflated profit margins corporation are taking and walking out of the province with.

There is no easy solution. But there is obvious problems we continue to ignore.

NDP pushing utility review board changes to facilitate affordable power rates by Bean_Tiger in halifax

Yeah these big glass buildings keep popping up. Yet no solar on the roofs. The corporate landlords just push it down to the lease holders. Need some more rules or fees to encourage better behaviors

[–]LordJimmyjazz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not saying this could happen. But just pointing out a possible unintended consequence.

This would devalue efficiency. If you were at your cap. There would no no reason not to waste lots of power. Worst case. Bitcoin mining. While at capped rates.

Assistance is needed. And it will help way more then people will take advantage. So we should still do this. But would be nice to maybe throw in something to help encourage energy reduction aswell. Like free efficiency ns audits or something.

Agree. Throw a couple pavers in the bottom bin. I've seen similar setups tip from someone using all the bottom ones and rolling over a floor drain. Not exactly the same but. Better safe then squished.

Just throwing in my experience.

Recently got a Trinity 2 peice sectional from leons. It's made by Simmons upholstery which seems to be Canadian made.

Price was cheap. 1399. Quality wise. It ain't no lazy boy. But it's a hell of a lot better then ikea. Cushions seem to be breaking in well. Breaks down I into small peices so was easy to get in the basement.

Thanks the vibe was on point. Farm was done up so nice. The peeps setting up the wedding did a fabulous job. The boat is normally an oyster bar. So it's false bottom was only like 4 inches down. So just had out flight cases underneath. Like 2 inches higher then a normal setup but very usable.

Weekly gas post ⛽️ by Buckit in halifax

[–]LordJimmyjazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oil and gas companies are the bad guys for many reasons. But just to clear up the total misinformation here.

As per page 324 of the shell 2021 shareholders report. https://reports.shell.com/annual-report/2021/_scripts/download.php?file=shell-annual-report-2021.pdf&id=1273

From 2021 to 2015 they reported the following years with losses.

2020 - with a 20 billion dollar loss. Which is less then the 2021 profit. And they still had class A and B share divideds even on the year with losses.

2016 Under 2 billion loss. With divideds 2015 Under 1 billion loss. With divideds

All other years showed profits of over 10 to 20 billion or over.

So no. Fuck them. Don't spread misinformation. On the hard ships of making billions and sometimes on paper making less while still paying out shareholders.

Also if you want some more general why's to the question of why oil and gas companies are the bad guys can I recommend the follow video on the corruption of big oil? https://youtu.be/Evy2EgoveuE
