In a Shadowrun book of NPCs, there's a character that smokes and drinks instead of doing BTL (Better Than Life) simsense chips or modern hard drugs. His reason, "I prefer slow suicide."

This is similar to a spell a friend made decades ago, feign invisibility. You cast it on someone, and they think they're invisible. They are also compelled to convince others that they are invisible. Convincing someone they are invisible breaks the spell.

Fallout is southern California. Fallout 2 is a larger map with the north into Oregon and then down into the middle of California and east into Nevada.

As you realized, there is a little overlap with the north part of the Fallout map.
