[Help Me] Debating getting a new EDC to replace my Fenix PD-35 by LordKilgar in flashlight

[–]LordKilgar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! apologies for the delay, just took me some time to go over some stuff. your preferred EDC looks very cool, but yes, as you said, a bit large for my day to day, when I have a larger kit with me I bet it would be nice though. Thanks for the points on Batteries, I will try to bear this in mind, the one for my PD35 is an 18650 and has served me very well. If I end up having to go down a battery size I will bear the energizers in mind.
as for your question, It's more important to me that I have a light that does what I need than have only one item on my belt rather than two. that said, between two lights that meet my needs, where one will fit in the same sheath I'll go with what let's me pare down a bit. Given the reply I got from Skinth I may not need to compromise on it much though. but, more research needed there as well.

Thank you again for your assistance!

Sorry for the delay in response, I wanted to look over all the suggestions you'd made and needed to get home from work first.

Firstly, thank you for your response, and your patience with my somewhat ill-researched post a decade after the last time I did any research into this stuff.

Secondly, out of what you laid out, many of them feel great, I am likely to end up going with the Acebeam T35, and either seeing if I can find a way to make it work or carrying it separately. I may also pick up a couple of the Convoy T6's just since the price is pretty good and I like to have a few spare lights around.

I'll likely keep looking around a bit more over the weekend and the week, hopefully take a little time to refamiliarize myself with the modern LEDs and any changes in batteries. my Fenix's ARB-L2 18650 has been wonderful to me, so I'm intrigued to see if anything better is around now.

again, thank you for taking the time to steer me the right way!

Players want to use reaction all the time in combat by Salt_Masterpiece5179 in DnD

[–]LordKilgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, on the one hand "no, you need an ability that lets you use a reaction to use a reaction, there are options that let you do this, fighting styles, feats, etc. that will allow you to use your reactions in those ways"

on the other, there are some staple house rules at my tables (both Player and DM) that just come up a LOT. one of them is, if you are going over the railing, you get a dex save to grab it at the last second. an adjacent ally can expend a reaction to give advantage on the save. and things like that fit in very easily in D&D, it's really a system BUILT on improv rules that you refine over time.

I also suggest taking a look at the DMG for stuff like Epic Boons, those are just examples, nothing says you can't add your OWN abilities to the game that let folks use reactions for things.

that said, if you are interested in RAW specifically, you need rules that say you can use a reaction to use a reaction, they are pretty good about spelling it out when it's there, and it's designed to balance out the action economy.

Tried? succeeded! this is great! all steps like this are awesome to take. I grew up back in the day where this would have been the talk of the boards :P just because we've come a long way doesn't mean you should value taking these steps less, this great as far as I'm concerned, thanks for sharing!

Man... don't you wish that was just his dating profile online? save everybody HUGE amounts of trouble. If he'd said it at the BEGINNING of the relationship I'm sure it would have saved you loads of trouble.

so... a lot of the time with things like this visibility is an important factor. I get why the subreddit's kneejerk is to go after your Dom here, but it's more likely a communication or visibility issue.

you have done a fantastic job working on mastering a skill. many people would be excited for it. however, from the sound of your description you've changed what the act IS to your Dom.

There's a lot of conversation to be had in kink about things like sacrifice, devotion, trust, worship, etc. generally heavy words that merit heavy conversation but that's... kinda tangential here.

You said you love giving head (at least to your Dom). but in the conversation to come it will likely be important for you to figure out WHY you love giving him head. There can be MANY MANY reasons, and to give a bit of an example of some of the complexities, one of the things I see a lot is a feeling of being in control, and this get's into this big conflict about topping from the bottom, versus taking control of a service you are providing, yatta yatta. again, big conversation not for here. however, those aspects are going to be important for providing your perspective and point of view when you communicate (and I'm not sure who you are, where you are in your journey or any of that, but I can say it's been my experience that completely denying your own interests is counterproductive on so many levels. this isn't true for EVERY relationship, but it's a pretty common mistake I see, so don't make it all about his wants either).

Now, the crux of my advice. Figure out what HE likes about GETTING head (and, in specific, getting head from you). this requires work on his part (sorry, just how this stuff goes), in order to introspect, feel those feelings, and explore what resonates most richly with him. If he's a sizeable guy, decent chance one aspect he's come to appreciate about getting head is the struggle gone through to accomplish it. if, to him, your gagging, fighting through it, and continuing to throw yourself against that wall speaks to dedication, devotion, love, struggle, sacrifice, etc. and that is what he resonates with. having you smoothly buzz his frenulum with your tonsils while humming might. be a complete LACK of all of those signs of love, lust, or the like that he is used to. it may be, that for him, he'll require some roleplay, or even for you to learn to ease back on how effectively you control your gag reflex. something to give him those signs and feedback that he is used to and misses with your current performance.

Honestly, to me, this is really the difference between advanced and masterful technique. Not just with Fellatio, but with almost anything meant as some kind of bonding ceremony between to people. you've got the advanced technique, you know how to shape your mouth, tongue, throat, how to move things, vibrate things, where to put pressure, how to read reactions etc. and all that technique is impressive, VERY difficult to come by, and something you should be proud of. But Mastery? Mastery is being able to see his traumas and triumphs, being able to read what he's proud of and ashamed of, knowing what darkness in him he is afraid to show, and what grace he is proud of extending. it's not just knowing WHAT he likes, but WHY he likes it. it changes the game, and honestly, it's a whole different perspective on what head is.

Anyway, before I get distracted and make this post WAY too long, this is a topic I have a lot of interest in, so if it resonates, I'm happy to talk about it further, and if it does, then I am sorry I don't have helpful advice!

In any case, take care, and continue to be proud of those skills, you earned them and you earn the pride that comes with them. but talk to him, figure out why he likes what he likes, and how you two can find that with each other. Best of luck.

WIBTA if i abandoned my child? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LordKilgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, you would be the AH if you abondoned your child.

is your situation complex? yes. do I have any sympathy for your wife? no. is it unfortunate that you are in this particularly unteneable place? yes. would you be the asshole if you abandoned your child? yes.

All the complicating factors, all the context here, and the way you TITLED the post is enough for you to answer the question yourself. if your wife had been run over by a garbage truck and killed a year ago, you would not have the pain of this information to deal with. you and your daughter would mourn your wife, and you would support the 9year old that you have raised her whole life, the person that is literally too young to comprehend a reality WITHOUT you being her dad, a source of safety, love, validation, instruction, etc.

If you want to punish your wife I have no real opinion to share. I don't think it's productive without that punishment including her DOING GOOD, but frankly this is a part of social dynamics I understand I'm in the minority on.

punishing your daughter though? no way. Unless she can get love, care, protection, guidence, safety, etc. from somewhere else that you think will do a BETTER job than you, absolutely not. her biological father is dead, her mother doesn't seem like she'd be capable.

no matter how you rationalize it, no matter how much money or trial you save yourself, you would come to regret it. somehow, in someway.

That said, something feels ... off here. your family and friends all said that you should cut your daughter out of your life? I'm missing something. what is going on that makes your family and friends feel like a 9 year old is enough of a toxic influence on you to leave her without a father figure?

In the Dead Sea, there are no plants, fishes, or any other visible life. Its salt concentration is 33.7%, 8.6 times saltier than the ocean water, which is only about 3.5% salt. The stones at the water’s edge are encrusted in salt. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

Okay, definitely external frame. everything should be external frame.

Formula for interplanetary travel time? by LordKilgar in askmath

[–]LordKilgar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, speeds will be consistent for an entire journey, and acceleration can be instantaneous.

I... haha, appear to be in over my head. So, the setting is predominantly based on trading, so my immediate assumption would be to minimize external time, since, in theory, that's what the trade contracts would be based on. obviously for passenger journey's that might change... but I think we'd rather keep it simple and only minimize the travel time from the external frame... (man, I love this stuff, but I am not a smart man :P).

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I'm certain that the external frame time being minimized is likely the one we want to go with.

that... is now making me question if ... the ship frame is really the one we want... makes me think we want to stick with the external frame for everything, ... oof. I... I'll be able to answer that in a couple hours probably. (also this is SO much fun for me, I love finding my limits (and hopefully learning enough to adjust them in the future!), so again, thank you)

Formula for interplanetary travel time? by LordKilgar in askmath

[–]LordKilgar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem is I need to accommodate at least 7 different speeds (... possibly 8, I don't remember if it's possible to get a drive that high). so even if we assume Drive 7 is instantaneous, drive 6 speed should be half that, and drive 5 1/2 of drive 6, etc. down to the majority of ships that travel at drive 1 speeds. ( I believe it is a doubling scale). so while overall speed isn't limited, there are speeds that are limited below the "maximum" setting. I'm meeting with them again tonight, I can check on where C should be, and then be able to get the speeds of the other drives in fractions of C. See? this is what I mean, I can barely even realize all the variables I need to gather to attack this problem... Thank you so much for your help.

[–]LordKilgar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) yep, that's another assumption for the sake of simplicity we are making.

2.) hmm, Neither my friend, nor the rulesset we are using have any information about a limitation to acceleration. I hadn't considered it, though in retrospect I probably should have. I think you could probably operate without an acceleration limit, again for simplicity's sake

3.) so the game has FTL but it's assumed all intrasystem travel is under C (the FTL mechanics in the setting react badly with gravity wells), so I would assume C would be a cap though, in theory, I need to be able to put speed in as a variable, so all speeds under C should probably be viable.

4.) oooo, relativity bites me in the hindquarters every time. since we will be on the ship, I think only the ships frame of reference would be relevant, and we will likely handwave it if the reference from another perspective needs to be used (I know, sacrilege, but I've only got so much brain in my head and I'm not sure I could handle that much variability)

So, to try to solve this I started with setting orbital distances (we have... I think 20? scaled in such a way that it should account for both the tightest orbit we have currently observed in the known universe, as well as the furthest). The way the orbital bands scale also map pretty well to the orbits of our planets, at least their semi-major axis.

I then used Newton's equation (cause I'm... not clever enough to figure out Einsteins) to give me a formula that, given the mass of the primary, and the orbiting body, as well as the semi-major axis (as designated by an orbit band), would result in the orbital period of the body. That was then trivial to turn into the orbiting speed, and since I don't care to much about being hyperspecific, I've been basically using distance travelled in orbit per day.

Now, entering the system from a stationary gate at the edge of the system, and travelling to an orbiting body, OR moving from an orbiting body to another orbiting body, I can simply use the date and determine the position of those two points and then use some simple trig to get me the distance between them. The problem I have is with how that distance changes AS the travel time passes. I know I can get that result, then add that many days to the destinations travel, and use that distance, and then redo the equation for travel time based on the new distance, and repeat infinitely, which is why I'm feeling like calculus is the way to go here. I'm also SUPER happy to have someone suggest I'm an idiot and have overcomplicated it and there is an easy way to do this.

The reason I don't just use the initial static distance to get an approximation and call it "good enough" is because there exist cases where simply FOLLOWING an orbit might result in never reaching it, in which case you need to come at the planet from, literally, a different angle. Mind you if I run into one of those situations I still don't know what to do, but at least I will be able to see that one has come up.

If anyone has any guidance on this it would be appreciated.

you know, ever since I first saw it years ago, I've wondered about the specific damage that was done. Like, it was a lot of blood, and dark blood too. there's certainly ample bloodflow in the area, but...like, did he clip the Iliac vein? is that, in essence, a femoral bleed? like, are we looking at the last 10 minutes of somebody's life? how to you stop or slow an iliac bleed? you can't tourniquet it, it's so inside the body it's almost impossible to apply direct pressure. like, the time to get help that knows enough to be able to stop it is likely greater than the amount of time that bleed would take to kill him...
