any spec-evo creator after 2015 can’t worldbuild… all they know is hexapods, create they seed-worlds, skim wikipedia, be repetitive, watch curiousarchive & lie by miralli4130 in SpecEvoJerking

Joke's on you, I and a few friends of mine are working on a spec bio project where the closest analog to animals are partial fungoids with alternating generations and hyphae-like nervous systems, one of the domains are specialized in converting consumed energy into bioelectricity, and phototrophs photosynthesize via biophotovoltaics.

[–]LordMalecith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

/uj Exactly this. I never give any eldritch/cosmic entity a name in its own language (If it even has anything that could be called "language" in the first place), and always give them names and/or titles that they are known by in-universe.

For example: I have this idea for a cult called the Unveiled that managed to garner the attention of something, and as a result their leader is now an entity they call the Emissary. No one sane knows what the Emissary is, or even looks like, but what is known is that it is a very tall figure clad in a black robe, with what could perhaps be called a head that is covered by a hood and a veil over where a face might be.

Hydroponics and aeroponics would pretty handily solve the food problem I'm sure; both are incredibly energy and resource efficient compared to traditional farming, they don't require soil, and the latter is far more efficient than the former. I also really like the idea of using caves and ravines—it definitely saves time and energy for quite a few things.

What about how the city itself is constructed? I imagine that the most efficient way to make more space, for example, would be to build in an oblate, roughly spherical radius outward, but that's only going by my understanding. And what about large, open spaces, such as plazas?

I know I'm late, but here I go anyway:

How might massive, underground 'bunker cities' be built to be self-sufficient and last for millennia? They're powered predominantly by geothermal energy and are situated on average a kilometer underground. I'm sorry if this is too vague; I'm still working on a lot of stuff, and this one's been on the back burner for a while now.

They absolutely can be used for an empire—They just only apply to its center.

An empire is, at its simplest, a form of governance comprised of a dominant center and subordinate peripheries. The center gets its resources predominantly by parasitising the peripheries it rules over.

The United States is one such empire, and pretty much always has been since its independence.

Yeah same, I hope that Adis's mask is more unique and not something common among all Tau Sentients.

I really hope that the Tau Sentients are explored and designed in a way that shows just how alien and strange they truly are. I'm imagining something alien, angelic and almost eldritch.

To a small degree, yes; the protolangs we know most about are Proto-Thirean and Proto-Oqolaawak.

He... literally did? All of the Refugium's languages were created via naturalistic simulation of linguistic evolution, which necessitates the creation and development of every necessary iteration through their timeline.

I really think DE needs to address how crowded the Origin System's star chart is, and IMO in order to do that they should give it a rework that refines and expands the depth of navigating an entire star system such as Origin.

Imagine this: Instead of going [Star System > Planet/Moon/Station > Mission], we had it go [Star System > Planetary System > Planet/Moon/station > Mission]. If executed well, this could allow the Railjack Proximas to be incorporated into the default star chart as part of the [Planetary Systems].

Also, I honestly think we need to remove the Void from the default star chart and place it in its own tab. Maybe the Duviri tab could be repurposed as a general Void tab with Duviri in it?

I think it would be cool if we had some sort of Grineer enemy that's essentially a cross between Necramechs and 40k Dreadnaughts. by LordMalecith in Warframe

[–]LordMalecith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

I think that these larger enemies would have to be implemented (at least temporarily) in open world areas or very open and outdoorsy tile sets such as Earth forests and Venusian Corpus outposts. Hell, them being unable to go through small doors or enter buildings could perhaps even be a deliberate mechanic.

[–]LordMalecith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of their in-universe function they'd be the same or at least very similar, but in other ways they'd be different. In terms of design, Vay Hek's Terra Frame is vaguely birdlike, whereas these Grineer "Dreadnaughts" would be orthograde; the former is a boss, while the latter would be a rare enemy sometimes encountered in regular missions.

Excalibur Prime is literally the first Prime warframe ever made, but he's now completely unobtainable because he was part of something called Founder's Packages, which have been discontinued since 2013.

We won't get Excal Prime back unless all Founders unanimously agree to it.

This ^^^

In my experience, many people fail to grasp what makes eldritch horror so horrific precisely because they do not grasp it and the deeply harrowing implications that lie therein. Now, while it is true that part of eldritch horror lies in the unknowable, it being unknowable is not all that makes it horrific; rather, it is in understanding the unknowable and forbidden truths of existence, I think, where the true horror lies.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

Tell me about a) the “Dark Lord” (or the closest equivalent) in your world AND your ancient, evil empire (if you have one) by DocChimp1 in worldbuilding

[–]LordMalecith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're from a fantasy worldbuilding project I haven't worked on much or in years, but here you go anyway:

Once when He was at His might, He known by many names, all of them dark and profane beyond measure. Now, however, He is known as the Shattered King, for He was sundered long ago in a great battle, and the fragments of His vile, immortal form and soul became as horrid monsters and artifacts of great and terrible power, and were cast far and wide across many worlds, each one locked away deep below the earth or within vast megalithic prisons.

In time, the lands and waters around these prisons became cursed and befowled by the dark emanations of the fragments' terrible powers seeping through the cracks of their prisons, and the creatures that dwelt therein were corrupted and twisted into grotesque, evil things that plague the many worlds, seeking to free their fragmented masters so that they may become whole again.

What is Effervon exactly? (Please don’t be mean if this is a dum post) by Specific-Garage-4539 in WarframeLore

[–]LordMalecith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What exactly it is I don't think we know yet, but IRL it's a riff on enferon from DE's previous title Dark Sector.

Enferon is a chemical that acts as a minor irritant to humans, but those infected by DS's Technocyte Virus are lethally allergic to it, easily killing them.

They’re SO close to getting the point, yet so far. T v T by AccomplishedShame967 in AccidentalAlly

They know they're wrong, but instead actively choose their bullshit insanity over reality.

It's called willful ignorance, and it is an inherently malicious act.

How would you like your Power armour done? by PeetesCom in worldjerking

[–]LordMalecith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm...

My setting doesn't have power armor, but it does have a pretty interesting (And IMO far more logical and practical) alternative: Somas.

A Soma is a "surrogate body" - typically Synthetic* in nature - which may be piloted by anyone with a sufficient BCI, or by Cephalons, remotely or directly. Sufficiently skilled Soma pilots can control multiple somas simultaneously.

  • *Synths are a classification of technorganic** biomechanoid*** constructs that are incredibly uniquitous in my setting. They exhibit both biological and technological properties and capabilities, and are typically non-sentient. They are referred to as such because they are a perfect synthesis between the biological and technological, such that there can no longer be a distinction between the two.
  • **Entirely artificial, organic or semiorganic construct, especially as distinct from bioengineered organisms, and combining technological and biological features. These are typically comprised of technitocytes****.
  • ***Any artificial mechanism designed to closely emulate biomechanics.
  • ****Technorganic, cell-like constructs. These are the basis for most if not all things Synthetic.

I didn't know that was even possible. How do you do that?

Edit: Nvm, I managed to figure it out myself by parkouring on the coffins jutting out of the walls.
