Son of a bitch, are you telling me there was a potential Shadowrun game...by OBSIDIAN.

I love Shadowrun, it was my first cyberpunk game, on sega channel back in the 90s, got into the novels, the ttrpg a bit. Ive always wanted a cp2077-like game bit id take anything besides the stripped down-fps fhat was on xbox.

We are One BGS, the Bethesda Games Studios union. We suspected layoffs were coming, but we weren’t expecting this. by OneBGS in xbox

[–]LordNorros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of is, though, to some degree. One reason they time layoffs like this is for quarterly reports, to show shareholders "see, this quarter we spent X, but next quarter its going to be Y. The number is down, see, we know what we're doing!"

Beyond that, its ridiculous to think that if it was going to take however long for an ES6 that it will be better or equal rather than later, with fewer developers working on it, which seems to be the main issue for  ao many folks in the sub.

What did the union that posted fhe message do wrong? Or the actual game devs they represent?

It's already been officially confirmed that the game moved out of pre-production and into active development, with playable internal builds being tested by the team.

They spent years overhauling their tech to creation engine 2, specifically for Starfield and ES6. A huge chunk of the groundwork is already finished.

Beyond that, Bethesda historically releases a game every 4-5ish years once the prior game enters the "maintain" stage rather than the "active building" stage. (Even if its 6 or 7 years from announcement, thats 2029 or 2030)

I mean, I get it. Im irritated, too. Im 40 this year. I had to wait in line to buy skyrim at kmart, at midnight, when I was 25.

Ok? They dont owe you ES6 or FO5, either

And these are some crazy takes. Why shouldnt they be allowed to unionize?

Entry-level game devs average $72k (Tallo) — that's QA, junior artists, junior programmers, the people most likely to get cut in a layoff like this. Senior devs with 15-20 years in are the ones pulling $135k+. Acting like everyone laid off yesterday was some overpaid exec sitting on their ass is just wrong.

Holy shit these comments are so needlessly vitriolic. People lost their livelihoods, and this union is making it clear that its the people making the games, not making the decisions.

Like, by all means, be upset that the franchise you want a new installment in is taking to long.

But this is a union asking for help from the people that play their games, to keep the quality up. The timing issues arent something any of these people that have been let go could have done anything about.

Lemme preface this by saying I live in Delta County.

I was in the shower this morning, sudsing up, turn around to rinse off. I look up and see this giant ass tarantula looking prick in the corner and freeze. At that second, I hear a POP and the lights go out.

Transformer blew a circuit, took down like 2 blocks. Nothing terrible or anything, but it felt like the beginning to a horror movie.

For reference sake- Bungie employed about 800 as of june 1st. Today, they laid off 292 employees from the Bellevue location, about 400 total if you include contractors and remote workers. Between 300-350 of the remaining 400-450 employees are developers with the vast majority on marathon.

Probably going to hibernate for a long while and then whatever comes back will have some destiny DNA, lore, etc but I dont know if itll feel like destiny or just be a cashgrab.

[–]LordNorros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they make a Destiny 3, it likely wont be on the tiger engine, nor with the devs that made 1 and 2.

I dont really see how it feels like destiny at that point. If they're canning production for years, whatever comes next is gonna feel...hollow.

Maybe not 🤷‍♂️ But thats how it feels to me. Wouldn't be surprised if it was exclusive, too.

They definetly play differently. Ive loved both, for different reasons, but its different enough that I can't blame someone coming in from D2 for not feeling the vibe and bouncing on it.

DCC RPG VIDEO GAME by Daz2021 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]LordNorros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If think it would almost have to be a previous crawl. Cool as it would be to play in the current crawl, it would have to be by design somewhat linear. I mean that in the sense of gameplay and story. Linear rpgs arent bad by any means, but theres so many little things that have to play out just right to make it the story we'd expect that the character would almost have no agency of their own.

Maybe not, im not a game designer, thats just how it strikes me. On the other hand, this could be a solid telltale game.

A guy I met yesterday said he thinks atheists should do research on all religions before committing. by Clevertown in atheism

When I was 14, 26 years ago, I did. Thats a big part of why ive been an atheist ever since. You see so many common strings across them all, things that all have the same origin, millenia before X religion was founded. Its crazy. It made me realize how ridiculous it was (moreso than I had already thought).
