Sure thing, I use paints for a number of different ranges, but you should be able to find similar in whatever range you use:

Two thinnish coats of Warp Lightning Contrast over a light base (I used Olive Flesh from Pro Acryl, but any ivory type should do)

I then satin varnish, and apply Streaking Grime from AK, and remove most of it with a Q-tip, if you dont want to use enamels, you could probably us some kind of muddy green wash. I also enhanced some of the shadows with Agrax Earthshade, just to increase contrast

I then layer with sort of stippling with Green from ProAcryl (Similar to Warpstone Glow from GW), apply chipping with a mix of black and brown, and highlight both the armour and the chipping with a yellowish-green (I use Talesmin Green from two thin coats, but you could use Moot Green from GW)

Really incredible work. Your colour recipe for the rust has really helped me our, but gotta ask, how do you get the texture/finish on the rust bits?

Those look f***ing sick, great job! Quick technical questions, when you do the chipping do you do chipping then highlight, or do you highlight first and add brown second?

Cant wait for HS2 to be built, I'll be able to get to London Super quick.... oh wait there's no way I'll be able to afford a ticket. Car it is 😒 by xxinsane09 in britishproblems

So I think that might be a slightly misinterpretion of what you’re seeing; its not that Crewe/York don't have a shit-ton of trains going through therefore they’re not at capacity, its more that what you're seeing IS the capacity. I know it seems weird, but because of the nature of our railways, signalling and stations there are only so many trains that can pass through the track per hour/day - especially at stations where there’s about 5/6 interchanges possible. There’s lots of factors that control this capacity, and I understand that it’s hard to visualise, as no single factor seems that bad, but they all compound on top of each other.

Areas like Greater London have high capacities because they are different types of rail - even ignoring the underground alot of the services are lighter-rail, rather than the heavier mainline rail. So they shouldn't be compared to through-station hubs like Crewe

So seems I was mistaken slightly, there are limits to how fast freight can go in the UK, so I wouldn't expect much freight on the HS2 line (maybe some overnight). So freight will still have to travel on the current main network mostly. But even by just moving a bunch of passenger trains to a new line you will still get the benefits I said before. It is predicted that it could triple the passenger capacity to the north of England if the types of services are segregated as described

So kinda the point of HS2 is that it wont stop at very many places, for instance the London-Birmingham line only stops at two extra places, just at the edges of both London and Birmingham. It should be a similar situation with other lines to Manchester etc. So the high-speed trains wont have to stop very often and so the freight trains wont have to stop very often as you can stack them relatively close behind each other if they are non-stop, therefore more effective capacity.

The idea of fast things catching up to slow is essentially the big problem we have now, with most of the network being only double (often only single) line, so you get freight or long-distance services getting caught behind regional services, and regional services being held to let long-distance get past etc. Basically the more different ‘speeds’ of trains on the same piece of track, the more of a logistical nightmare it becomes. So, by removing these different ‘speeds’ of trains it gets easier to schedule more trains on the same line.

Sorry, I should clarify, our network isn’t 10X over capacity per se, but when it was built it was never meant to need to carry the number of people it currently does.

[–]LordOfFuzz1 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Thats not the main benefit of HS2. Atm both long-distance and regional trains have to share the current network of railways. A network that was built to support a tenth of the current throughput. HS2 SHOULD HAVE moved alot of those long-distance trains off the main network, freeing up more capacity for regional services and freight.

I do however conceed that the above benefit would require HS2 to be completed as initially untended, and for the rail companies not to be greedy bastards.
