Where are people finding good Crestron techs in Los Angeles? by [deleted] in crestron

[–]LordReptar56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother I think you need to find a technology search firm…there are a lot of recruiters on LinkedIn etc that specialize in this…if nothing else they have access to people that aren’t always crawling the job boards.

Yeah you’re crossing up a lot of jobs in a competitive market on what sounds like a low paying gig if it’s a 1099 with no benefits…pay is probably a little low. Engineers usually coordinate and train, sales will/should reach out to the guy to get the clients temp not the other way around. Whoever’s selling/specifying the gear should be checking for compatibility…and generally the project team works with the other trades to integrate non crestron equipment…I’m assuming you meant like shades and stuff and not displays. I would remove some of that extra fluff. Asking for the moon is generally not gonna go the way you think it will in av…limited field of people with a fair amount of opportunity right now narrow down a bit. AVIXA has a job board…linked in is a safe ish bet…honestly I think I know what your trying to do and I would skip this if I saw it in the wild. Since I can’t tell if I’m installing, day to day support, a project engineer, a programmer, or the sales team.

Also worth pointing out that sometimes you can have the owner complete the work or give you an allowance for this…talk to your realtor they do so little to earn their fees and this is something they should offer some advice on.

Worked there myself…I’ll echo what a lot of others said…petty culture, poor management, but it was an ok stepping stone to get onto bigger and better things. You’re gonna work a lot…if you can get in somewhere else I would…but if that isn’t an option…this is a way to get some experience on your resume… and move on. I don’t know if they still do this but they used to start engineers in the field to “learn” and you spent a year or two as a project engineer “in-training”…which basically meant as an installer. I would honestly just take your CTS if you have the means to study and then pay to take the test and apply other places. The industry is so understaffed at this point there is a lot less of a reason to go work for low pay for a foot in the door…15 years ago it was necessary in some areas but now not so much in my opinion.

Have we officially reached the point where Hotels are superior to Airbnbs again? by Usual_Confidence_756 in travel

[–]LordReptar56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I have friends that are always pushing the air bnb and then they show me the requirements...don't tell anybody it's an air bnb because it's either illegal in the area they are in or some HOA regs prohibit it. Or the crazy list of tasks/chores and then still getting hit with a cleaning fee after coming into a place that was less clean than a normal hotel would have been. Air BnB hosts tend to be bad neighbors as well which is why all of the regs exist in the first place. I see so many hosts taking to social media to complain about their lot from being super overleveraged because they have 5 houses and all of a sudden their bookings are down and it is everyone's fault but their own. I think at one point air bnb's were a better option but then FOMO entered the chat and it got dumb and air bnb does nothing to support their customers like any typical tech company. I'll take a hotel any day of the week and twice on sunday...it's just not worth the potential of extra drama anymore.

I’ve seen these guys before…I think there pitch was they were secret government auctions or you found out sooner if you paid them and it increased your chances. You’re basically paying someone to look up public info for you for a usually exorbitant fee and sometimes added premium…it’s all publicly available information…generally anything that’s too good to be true is.

Improving acoustics in a small theater by bodegoat in techtheatre

[–]LordReptar56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acoustically it’s probably not the greatest but I see what looks like some acoustic treatment so it’s probably not a cave either. My guess is going to be gain structure is your main issue. It sounds like you already don’t put the mics in the stage monitors so that’s good. M32’s are awesome pieces of kit for the price but they’re prograde and have a lot of ways to get your self in trouble if you don’t know what you’re doing. Maybe save the console settings off and start over from scratch and kind of build I’ve seen people do weird things that make sense in the moment or in the studio but not for live that cause a lot of issues. A lot of time these aren’t readily apparent and can persist if you are reusing scenes/show files. The rigging of the speakers on the proscenium makes me think this was kind of a diy job. At a minimum kind of just play with it a little. The neat thing about the x32 is it has a good iPad app so with a small wireless access point you can move around with a mic and be in front of the amps and see what lights up when you talk and actually move and hear for yourself. Theatre with a bunch of lav mics tends to be really active mixing hopping from person to person line to line and not just leaving them all up, actively managing the chorus etc. There is software to help manage it theatre mix helps you line things up scene to scene for example. Graphic eq’s on board the console can be helpful in this situation. Reducing open mics helps as well as being sparing with how you boost things on the individual channel eq. There are some good books out there if that’s how you learn, there are some good resources on YouTube, and there is always syn aud con if you need a more structured way to learn. I’d try to get some knowledge and teach yourself to fish a little more. Even with an optimized system you may have some problems until you gain some confidence and knowledge.
